You are aware of the fact that those external tanks can be jetissoned? ;) The "droptank" has been in use on combat aircraft since around 1943-ish. They don't enter the fight with the drop tanks still attached. They drop them first. :)

Leroy, DCS World only asks for serial numbers for products you have installed, and it only installs products you ask it to install. Black Shark 1 does not exist for DCS World. If you have any Ka-50 installed in DCS World, it's Black Shark 2.
-
It asks for a key because you have evidently installed the module. To get rid of it, simply remove it in the Module Manager. Your original BlackShark key is completely irrelevant for these purposes.
-
BlackShark 1 from non-steam sources cannot be activated on Steam. BS1 och Steam uses a completely different system - Steam's own system - for keys. If you need to find the serial number, you can make sure to check the download page as well. Sticky has details: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=57556 Upgrade version of BS2 is unfortunately not possible to migrate into Steam either. It would require a solution to a few technical and practical issues that are yet to be figured out.

Moore's law can fix all those problems for you in pretty much no time at all. ;) Even if we assume that what was seen there is running on specialized hardware (we don't know that either, remember), engine capability is still engine capability. Meh, still big enough to make Arma players get totally lost. :D

Torrents allow you to set your upload speeds. Including to sub-dialup speed. Which browser are you using? I can resume on Chrome just fine. (Unless the server itself is throwing fits.) Also note that Torrent allows you to resume files even if you didn't originally download via torrent; just point it to where the parts are located and upon initiating the torrent it will analyze what you already have and continue where you were. (I have used this to seed DCS torrents that I had previously downloaded from tester FTP.)

windows 7 version recommended for DCS
EtherealN replied to Squid's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Agreed. I don't like the UI (I'm starting to get old I guess), but there's no real showstoppers aside from just not liking it. I wouldn't buy Win8 to replace my current Win7, but whenever I decide to replace the workstation/sim machine, it will probably get Win8 along with the rebuild. -
I can't swear by it, but my own tests from modifying my computers is that changing the same variable multiple times is not additive; that is, if you change HDD, and then change HDD again, it still only counts as the one change. So for example, changing hardware through emulated hardware will count as one change on that scale, but when you change back (through disabling the emulation) you still have only made one change. Enable the emulated hardware again - still just one change. I haven't gone methodically through those tests, but that is my experience.

windows 7 version recommended for DCS
EtherealN replied to Squid's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well, Home Basic can do it as well, but is limited to 8GB; which sorely limits future expansion capabilities. Worse, Home Basic does not come with 64-bit in retail; only in prefab. You also lose some not-so-important media stuff like some decoders and so on. Also, I think it is limited to "3rd world" only as far as retail goes. Starter, btw, is limited to 2 GB, not 3-4, does not support multiple monitors and a few other things that might be nice to have. Also, again, it is not available in retail, only prefab. -
Yes. In your Steam game library, you should be able to find your CD keys through selecting to view DCS World cd keys. The key you gained from Steam for UH-1 will work just fine on our distribution. (And the A-10C version should also work just fine on the Steam version.)

I'm curious, let's get a thread in Other Sim news or wherever. I've been quite busy lately so clearly I have missed something in the greater gaming circles.

We appreciate that the majority are thankful for the pictures and understand the context in which they are given. Thankyou to all of you. The problem is that there is a loud minority that, whenever such materiel is published, instantly create a LOT of extra work for moderators and administrators. Not a big deal, just a question of deciding where it is worth spending our resources. :)

You just reversed burden of proof. You can find it in your own post, I'll highlight: "unless there is evidence that disproves the allegation" (Though it should be "assertion". :P ) You are saying that an "allegation" will stand by default unless proven false. Only way to prove it false is to do it. So... Cryengine can do it by default, and the only way to change this perception is to make someone actually implement this on cryengine? Shouldn't it be the reverse; that Cryengine will have proven it's capability of doing this when someone actually does it. I can allege that I can run 100 meters faster than Usain Bolt; the only way to make this not so is if you can bribe me into running 100 meters on your stopwatch. Which I won't do. So... yeah, please consider me the fastest man in the world. :) As you can see, that kind of argument doesn't work, so let's please keep that out of this. You can always open a different thread in Other Sim News or something when some other product or engine shows something you feel is worth discussing.

OK This is Getting ridiculous for Ticket Number 20163

Hi, Very sorry for the delay, this is obviously not right. I have asked for a review. -
Nevada Test and Training Range. Basically, all those "Area ##".
-
Respectfully placed questions etcetera are of course fine. I'm mainly talking about things that were deleted, as a general caution, I should have made that clear - sorry. As for being constructive, I think that if you consider this for a few minutes you'll realize it is impossible to give a list of "well, here is a picture that shows off X, but note that Y and Z are off because we have A and B left to do and for technical reasons we had to leave C out, but they should give effect O and P once these are done". That's the kind of stuff one does for milestone presentations to publishers and takes many many hours of work to get through. ;) Basically though, my point is: no, not all people know what WIP means. Evidently. We have cleaned up the worst, the rest of you carry on but please keep 1.10 in mind while doing so. :)

Guys... WIP <-- Work In Progress. Do you want to get updates on things that are in development, or don't you?

windows 7 version recommended for DCS
EtherealN replied to Squid's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Win7 Home Premium. Anything more is just money spent for features you are very unlikely to use. (And that are irrelevant for DCS.) That said, Win8 isn't all that bad. I use it on the laptop. -
How would this system be for DCS titles?
EtherealN replied to Markdude's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I would say that any such advice would be highly dependent on price. -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Turbo_Boost The processor overclocks itself when it feels you need it and it has the thermal headroom to do so. It will do it with different amounts depending on how many cores are being used. It is completely standard and as far as warranties etcetera go it does not count as having "overclocked". It's just how Intel made them. The processor will also underclock to lower frequencies when you are not using the computer or not running anything that requires much power, in order to save on your electricity bill and also reduce wear on the processor.

How much is he asking for it? -
Just to confirm: 1) You have DCS World installed from us, and not Steam? 2) You do have the serial number that was issued to you from Steam? In this case, you should be able to simply install Combined Arms through the Module Manager in your DCS World menu. It will ask for the serial number either there, or on the first time you start a mission after that. Then just enter the serial number and it should activate. The download should be pretty small, a few tens of megabytes.
-
Aye, would be perfect.

Please consider setting up some form of stream of the event. I'm flying to Russia around that time and might not have a DCS machine available, but would love to at least spectate in some fasion.
