http://microsoft-news.com/microsoft-new-kinect-hardware-for-windows-coming/ Possible to finally have accurate, no fuss tracking without clips or something hanging off your head? Although I love my TIR it's good to see a bit of competition looming for NP. Maybe their prices might actually drop.

Take On Helicopter - New game by Bohemia Interactive
WynnTTr replied to Eight Ball's topic in Chit-Chat
Isn't there licensing issues with the helicopters? I read somewhere that BI didn't actually get any so they have to model their own based on rl helicopters in order to avoid being sued. -
It depends on how long you want to wait. Christmas is coming up so I'm sure the sales will start soon - and then there's the post-Christmas sales.

Modman is agreat tool. Makes mods easy, man.

Satisfied TM warthog pilots?
WynnTTr replied to Elnocho3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
110% satisfied with mine. If it broke today I'd buy another tomorrow without hesitation. -
Yeah tank crews train to take out helicopters - and they're more proficient at it than most people think. I also remember watching a doco about a UK Army Lynx duelling it out with an Iraqi tank. Should be easy you think - a modern army's attack chopper v outdated tank. Nope. The tank commander was especially good and with every shot he was getting closer and closer to hitting the Lynx. The battle took some time as well, it wasn't over quickly. I'll have to try and find that again, it was an interesting watch.

True but that doesn't stop ED from charging for it if they wanted to - and that the we shouldn't expect that BS customers would get it automatically either. As I said previously, the only thing we know with absolute certainty - ED have said that pre-purchased A-10 accounts will get Nevada for free. Anything else is in that fantasy-magical-rainbow-pony-unicorn candyland that you mentioned - right along with customer beliefs.
-
Yeah that's what I'm hoping too and would be a better move for the community. Not a smarter move for income though.
-
One flaw in your logic there - ED have NEVER said that the upgrade was going to be free as they have so definitively said that Nevada was going to be for pre-purchasers of the A-10. So you really can't make a statement like that. The key word here is: belief. Again, where have they definitely said that it was going to be free? It's going to be part of a big battlefield yes, but nowhere did they say it's going to be free. I think it's a reward for pre-purchasing A-10, for the early support and faith of the final product (as most rewards for pre-purchases are). If the reason is that it wasn't ready for release then they'd just release it later for everyone free. Gotta remember that Nevada is an A-10 map, not a BS one. As I said previously, just because it's a map designed for one separate game/module doesn't mean it should automatically be available for all other modules. Plenty of sequels in other genres have their own exclusive maps.

For you maybe. I'm playing everything maxed now with 30-50 fps on 5760x1080. No graphical patch needed. It's very polished now and I'm loving the new graphics in the BS.
-
So damn, I've been playing updates to ME, COD, BF, BC, AC, Civ, hell just about every sequel that only improved graphics that had alot less than what BS2 has, usually minor changes to actual gameplay. But yeah, we'll see you in DCS: Fighter.
-
It's a little bit of a pain if you don't have BS1 already installed - it's that extra time installing then validating BS1, then installing BS2. But once BS2 is there just uninstall BS1 completely.

It's Russian, everything has to be at least 10% more difficult or taxing than any US counterpart :music_whistling:

I seriously doubt that it would be hard for them to see who bought what. It's very a simple db query afterall. Even you can look up your account details and get your keys from the DCS site. But what has been definitely said with absolute clarity - those that pre-puchased A-10 will be getting Nevada for free. Ofc this doesn't mean that ED will change their minds (and it's their prerogative) but the public outcry will be huge as this has already been stated clearly that it was to be free for pre-purchases. And complaining is our prerogative (note: complain, not whining incessantly). With logic, one would think that those that pre-purchased A-10 and also have BS2 will have access to Nevada for both aircraft. Likewise you'd think that those that only purchased BS2 or A-10 at release would have to pay for Nevada. Even if they choose to charge $20 for Nevada for the BS to fly in it, I'll still get it. It's up to you if you don't for BS. It was never stated that BS2 would be getting Nevada for free, only pre-purchased A-10's. Just because the two aircraft can fly together it doesn't mean that a map designed for one game should be common to all other separate games. We have a common airspace for that already.

Definitely a big improvement all round. Love just flying around even more than BS1. AI improvement is a big, big plus in my book. Much more immersive.

Initial impressions on Black shark 2 please
WynnTTr replied to coolts's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
It's good stuff. While it's A-10 graphics it's a different experience when you're flying closer to the ground and slower. Effects are nice, shadows are nice, cockpit is nice. I can't remember how sharp Ricardo's HD pit was but this new one certainly got a "nice" factor from me. Sound is awesome, menu screen suits my eyefinity 5760x1080 and best of all it works for eyefinity off the bat, no lua editing needed! -
If you're having trouble supporting yourself, your family or a dependent and can't drop $20 on yourself in today's inflated price of goods world then you really shouldn't be playing. Sell the computer, get a second job or third, go on welfare, cut back on the electricity, whatever, cos you'd need to if you can't one time drop $20 to treat yourself. Yes, I'm judging those that bring the poor me sympathy card into the argument because really, you're complaining on a gaming forum....
-
People are complaining that ED can't release modules fast enough? Sheesh... talk about biting the hand that feeds them. No wonder there are no development houses making sims anymore. I know I wouldn't start one up with the amount of bitching. I'd rather just cater to the masses and watch the money roll in.
-
How does it refute it? This practice has been going on for some years now in other game genres - you see DLC in other games yet? Also even if they do charge $20 per upgrade - let's see: If they release a DCS module ($60) every 2 years with an upgrade for the previous module ($20) that's $80 every 2 years. You can't spend $80 every 2 years? If you saved a dollar a week you'll cover it easily. Even if they do it annually (see Activision and the milking of the CoD franchise), that's around about $1.50 per week. Hmm... petty much? Arguments of principle - if they were crusading for world peace, the elimination of poverty or just helping the dog down the street get a skateboard then that would be an argument of principle and charging for a commercial product would deserve the kind of outcry we're seeing. But news flash! They're a commercial company trying to sell a product and make a buck not cater to your whims for free products. If you want free, do it yourself or get friends to.

The WH is a great HOTAS, more precise than a NXT modded cougar with less play on the stick. The all metal stick construction and industrial buttons are awesome. The throttle isn't as well constructed but the switches and buttons are still military grade (probably). They feel like they've been ripped from the A-10. My brother got the x-65F and I've had a play with it. Not a bad stick at all. The rotaries and FS would be the main selling points particularly if your main sim is BMS. It's got enough buttons however it's lightweight compared to the WH. You have to stick the throttle down with something else and probably the stick as well if you get too forceful. After a while you forget that the stick doesn't move as the force sensing can be calibrated and switched on the fly. It responds exactly how you expect it to. Need to AAR? just down the sensitivity. My bro cheats a little bit in BMS by upping his sensitivity when flying CAT III with a full load while I'm still left feeling like an..... A-10! SST software is junk for advanced programming and Saitek support leaves a bad after taste, when they're actually there to serve you. Last note on the X-65, you'll have to reg hack to get your ministick to work as a proper slewing tool for your FCR functions. It's a mouse by default and because of the rotaries and dual throttle there is a Windows limitation on how many axis you can have. You'll have to sacrifice one axis to enable the ministick to function as one. Again, not a problem if your main sim is BMS where it's a single engine aircraft. The left throttle axis is disabled on my bro's X-65. Also note that the X-65 is not as popular as the WH so finding a good script profile for BMS will be difficult. I've looked and have yet to find one. The best advice was to map the buttons yourself from a clean key file. Meanwhile I've tried 3 WH scripts up to date until deciding on the last one is the one I'd keep. Never had experience with a FSSB cougar but I imagine that that would be ideal for BMS - you get the full F-16 replica then down to the force sensing stick. All you need to do is give the stick a little play (as in the real Viper) and you'd have it exactly as the real thing. Personal preference? given that I've only had experience with the X-65 and WH, I'd still get the WH. The all metal construction, the weight, the precision, the military grade buttons/switchs, better programming and just general badassness of it. It would be nice to have rotaries for radar but that'd be mainly for BMS and i play other sims with the WH as well. End of essay :)

If the multiplayer weren't so good I'd be dropping this like a steaming turd pile. I don't like Origin, don't like the double login of Battlelog and Origin, don't like you have to log into both just to play single player campaign. At this early stage all the glitches that come with the Battlelog browser really sucks. I was unable to initiate Co-op games or see invites from my friends so the only option was joining a random server and when battlelog goes down or is glitchy I can't even play singleplayer. The actual game itself is superlative. Had a blast (and giving some) when actually in game.

It's on consoles as well but all the goodies are on PC - the exceptional eyecandy, 64 player conquest and huge maps. On consoles BF3 may as well be called BC2.5.

TrackIR = no fiddling, works right after install. Easy. Up to you how you want to set your curves, if at all. Pricey. Freetrack = Free. All you need is time and a decent webcam and means for a headtracker. If I had to choose between the two I'd personally go for TIR. Only for the fact that I'm a lazy, impatient bastard and would rather fly than try to make up a head tracker myself. I want to just plug it in and for it to work. That's what I got with TIR.
-
That's what the HOTAS is designed for. You'll only be flustered with buttons/switches if you went in unprepared and need to edit weapon profiles for a specific target. Other than that it's mainly all HOTAS work with only a few button presses.

Not so bad as fighters going so slow as to be almost hovering taking out choppers and fast moving ground vehicles. Let's hope BF3 addressed that aspect.
