In the meantime, here's an image that I was alerted to by another F-16 fan yesterday. A very poignant and fitting tribute... well played BAF!
-
It was a long shot, but an easy and non-destructive one if it had succeeded. I'm thinking the partition table may be borked, as Win10 can see something but isn't able to identify the fs. Unfortunately I can't think of a non-destructive way to fix this. :-(

The videos show a Block 30 F-16D from the 182FS. ;) I thought it had already been established that no USAF/ANG Block 50s had a CMM display in 2007?
-
No, the opposite... make sure that only your new Win10 SSD is listed in the BIOS as "bootable". I moved two SSDs from my old Win7 system into this new Win10 build, one of which still had the bootable Win7 partition intact, and I was never asked to format it or the other drive; both were mounted and readable immediately. The problem may simply be bad sectors or fs corruption so try this... Start Menu, Windows System. right-click Command Prompt & select "run as administrator". At the C:/ prompt, type chkdsk [e:] [/p] | [/r] and press <ENTER>. The operation may take some time to complete but be patient. Once it's finished reboot the system and (hopefully) the drive will mount without complaint.

Joystick/HOTAS Chair Mount - MONSTERTECH
Slug72 replied to meisterolsen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Will do, thanks. -
Is my system upgradeable for 2.5?
Slug72 replied to Scarecrow84's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Agreed 100%. I reignited my flight sim passion by trying 2.5.x on a very similar system to yours (Phenom X4 @3.4Ghz and a SSD, but the same 16GB RAM, GPU and display). I assumed it would be a low-res slideshow, and was pleasantly surprised. The bad news? See below... :megalol: Absolutely. I now have a 500GB drive purely for DCS; you just tell the DCS installer to use it when it asks where you want it installed. -
Joystick/HOTAS Chair Mount - MONSTERTECH
Slug72 replied to meisterolsen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
These look great. Will the chair mounts be available to purchase without mounting plates. to allow conversion from existing desk mount set-ups? -
The AIM-120x is longer/heavier so the CG of the wing is moved forward of its twist axis, thus suppressing flutter. An AIM-9x is still better than clean tips, but the AIM-120x is optimal.

They managed it for the F/A-18C (Flaps Auto-Half/Full-Half). A similar "MRM/Cancel" & "DGFT/Cancel" arrangement would allow binding to the TMWH boat switch to emulate the real-life function.

^This If it's good enough for Dos Gringos - [NSFW] (who actually flew the F-16C) then it's sure good enough for me!
-
...Dos Gringos playlist on "default"? For flight sim enthusiasts of a certain age, the F-16 is special. She's like your first true love.... lost, but never forgotten. ;)

The F-16.net community forum is where the real gold is to be found. Frequented by many current and former F-16 aircrew/maintainers, it's an Aladdin's Cave of information.

That's what happens when you take too long away from something (or just get old).... the memory plays tricks. I was sure you could enable the mode via the DMS if configured pre-flight. I'll pre-order on Wednesday because I want a DCS-quality F-16C. Anyone who doesn't do likewise is still okay by me... this is a hobby and a form of relaxation, not a religion. Besides, if we ever get a 'Dynamic Campaign', we'll need variety in airframe capability to make it realistic and interesting.
-
Real-world sales say otherwise. Besides, why else would you drop $$ on a DCS module, e-peen points? :) I'm invested in the F-18C myself so I've no axe to grind 1v1, but having flown the F-16 since my DX386-40 days I'm drooling at a the thought of an accurate simulation in the modern DCS environment. I'm sure I'm not the only one. ...and the HTS. Plus a proper HOTAS that lets you switch AA/AG modes instantly... and aerobraking! Bottom line.... variety is the spice of life. More choice = more consumers = more income - more improvements.

Don't disconnect the throttle from the PC, and don't switch off the PSU (or remove plug from mains socket).

I'm using "TMS UP" as my TDC Depress for the same reason. Ministick depress works fine as RAID/FLIR FOV but refuses to function if the stick is simultaneously moving on its axis. A DeltaSim upgrade is on my list now that I've got a system to do DCS justice. Oh, and a replacement WH throttle pinky swtich as mine has just decided to crap-out on one position....

DCS: F-16CM Block 50 by EDSA Discussion Thread
Slug72 replied to NineLine's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I don't think so, but who cares? The -V5 is historically accurate for our Viper, and has the advantage of plentiful available information to enable accurate modelling. Surely that's all that matters here? -
I watched it twice, back to back, and snorted as much beer due to laughing second time around as the first. You've captured the beautiful absurdity of our hobby perfectly. ;) Fwiw, I showed it to two youngsters today at work. You know, those who think that Fortnite/PUBG on a PS4 are the epitome of online gaming? Now 'The Stingers' are officially "cool" 'cos flight-sims are supposed to be stuffy and boring. :megalol:

Svsmokey pointed you to it. MB-339A/PAN by Frecce Tricolori Virtuali Developed to emulate the real thing, with input from actual pilots (including a former member of the Tricolori!), and an EFM in development.

Installed terrains not showing in Module Manager
Slug72 replied to Slug72's topic in Installation Problems
I started DCS a few minutes ago, and at the main menu went into Module Manager. Lo and behold, both Nevada and Persian Gulf have reappeared in "Terrains" with PG showing 'Disabled' (which explains why it wasn't selectable in-game). It therefore appears that this was either an account sync issue or a locally-caused glitch rather than a DCS problem. I've attached my dcs.log anyway, just in case it sheds light on the mystery. Thanks for your attention, and apologies for the (apparent) false alarm. dcs-log.txt -
Installed terrains not showing in Module Manager
Slug72 replied to Slug72's topic in Installation Problems
Thanks for the reply, c0ff. File reads as follows: { "WARNING": "DO NOT EDIT this file. You may break your install!", "version": "2.5.4.29167", "timestamp": "20190329-151514", "arch": "x86_64", "lang": "EN", "modules": [ "WORLD", "FA-18C", "PERSIANGULF_terrain", "NEVADA_terrain" ], "launch": "bin/DCS.exe" } autoupdate.cfg -
I'm on the current Stable branch, and have both the Nevada and Persian Gulf terrains installed. Both are present on my SSD under "\DCS World\Mods\terrains". However both no longer show as "installed" in Module Manager, although the Nevada icon is still present in the main menu strip and is selectable in the ME. The PG map, otoh, simply doesn't exist to me. I've tried multiple repairs and cleanups, logged-out and back in, but with no luck... the E-Shop still insists I own PG but it's not available to me. Before I nuke DCS from orbit and reinstall from scratch, does anyone have any solutions?

The "bible" is probably the late Robert 'Mouse' Shaw's "Fighter Combat: Tactics & Manoeuvring" book. Originally published over 30yrs ago it's dated wrt BVR combat but the BFM theory is still sound. Not only was ''Mouse' an experienced combat pilot, he was also a student of history who realised that even modern pilots could learn from the past. His book is littered with telling anecdotes from the likes Richthofen, Boyington and Olds which still resonate today,
