I wouldn't mess with the trim in the beginning when learining to hover. Try 10% deadzone on pitch and bank axis for the cyclic, and a curvature of atleast 25%. When in combat and for hovering I use the Flight Director(LCtrl A), because it doesn't feel like "Autopilot" is fighting agains me.

I know I forgot to attach my crash files. I now found out that it's the graphic card that crashes. Same problem I had with FC2 but that was because Catalyst AI was enabled. Still I got the crashes now in BS. Have now disabled Adadaptive AA aswell in my ATI 4850 control panel and that seems to do the trick so far. bs_crash.zip
-
Same here with ATI card. Make sure to disable Catalyst AI for the ATI card since that has been problem with both BS and FC. But now the graphics lock ups has reappeard especially on one mission in BS. I noticed when I had Catalyst AI enabled the game slows down when I press CTRL-Scroll lock and have the full info displayed. Runs normal when only FPS or off, but for some reason this has started to happen again even though I have Catalyst AI disabled?

Started my first campaign yesterday. The 3rd mission "Stronghold" in the first campaign has crashed on me for the 3rd time. It happens around the time just after I've taken out the 1 or all of the bunkers? Edit: Had to disable Adaptive AA in addition to already disabled Catalyst AI for my graphics card, so it's all good now.

Dumb Question - AI wingmen landing
JasBird replied to smithcorp's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
It's not a dumb question. I'm wondering the same. Haven't really played FC2 much yet, but I've seen the wingman do some strange stuff from time to time in Lock On and FC1. The few flights I've done in FC2 I havent given my wingman any orders and seems to be fine. I always try and make an Inbound call and assume the Wingman then either follows me in formation or that he gets a seperation from tower? -
I know how you feel BigMotor. Black Shark is an instant classic and bring back memories from the good old days playing Gunship(C64 & PC) and Janes Longbow 1 & 2(PC). Those where the days :)

I understand. I hope you understand my suggestion. I was thinking that even though the general flight is in the Ka-50 I just assumed that most people would need instruction mostly in the Ka-50 specific subjects and combat tactics. I have to say once again that your demo lesson is brilliant, can't imagine anyone doing a better job, and really look forward to future lessons. You really can tell you enjoy teaching and are very good at it.
-
Hi I've seen your video and was highly impressed. I definetly gonna check out more. Just a little suggestion. Not sure how you are planning on releasing the lessons, but I would suggest making the lessons specific for the Ka-50 first and then later on do more general avation lessons. I can only speak for myself, but I guess many of the people here have sim flying experience and would be most interested in Ka-50 specific and Heli Combat lessons? I guess my point is that you have more competion and information out there already about general flight and you should first release the more advanced & specific stuff. Cheers

Thanks for reply. So no need to turn on Optical then? Just radar with IR missile and fire when LA? Great job on FC2. Runs really nice on my computer compared to Lock On and FC1. I'll throw in another question. Since I now use Track IR I find it very hard to seperate friends and foe during air combat compared to just using the padlock. I'm talking about the stage where you end up close in after head on BVR. I've only flown the Mig29 Missions so far, but they kinda force you into these situations :) The AI always seem to know who to shoot at :) I like to fly the russian aircrafts and when in vertical mode you lock somone up with optical. If I then turn on radar I assume the radar locks on the target aswell? I just taught about this, but is radar slaves to the Optical lock, will the Wingman call out spike if I lock him up, or does he only call spike when enemy locks him up? It's really hard to keep track of Wingman in combat. Once I tell him to engage or he goes defensive he might be everywhere. Any advice?

If I remeber correctly it says in manual that it will only record flight time if you fly a mission for the country(allied?) you stated in your logbook? Not certain but I rember reading something about the logbook?

Did not work for me? Copied the 3 files and did not have to edit any of the files since it already had set export = true and added the do line. Now I also have an TacviewExportFlamingCliffs.lua in my FC2 folder? I have record on FC on in Tacview and it stors the files there, but error when try and open the tracks? No worries. Had to switch off recording Flaming Cliffs. All good.

Hi Great game and I'm having a blast. Have a few questions that are still unclear to me. - I've been doing one of the Mig29 missions and I'm armed with just the R60. The enemy has a few F-16 with apparently only AIM9P's. I have a hard time locking them up with the IR sensor, so I use radar first. If I remeber correctly I could not fire the R60 with radar lock, but had to turn on IR. Is it best to lock with radar first and then turn on IR? Will the radar guide the IR seeker? - When it comes to wingman, I'm a little unsure what orders to give. Like in this mission we get pretty close before contact. Should I give him attack enemy or engage my target before missile range. If I don't give him orders will he just cover me and follow lead unless fired upon? Does he use his IR to seek actively or is it only with radar on he searches for targets. The wingman is pretty quick to find targets with the radar :) I'm sure more questions will pop up. Cheers

Didn't wanna start a new thread, but does Tacview work with FC2? Installed v.094 and when I marked record FC2 it asked for game directory, and I select FC2 directory. Tracks are saved there, but get error when try to open them in Tacview?

Interesting discussoin going on here. I myself used to work for one of the biggest helicopter schools in the US, and here is my opinion. I had a lot of experience with flight sim before I started flying helicopters and it really did help me IRL. Mostly because I didn't have to think about how the controls work etc. The problem with RL is that it takes time to build up the feel/response of the controls and this differs from every helicopter type. You can watch an experinced pilot with a lot of hours flying a new helicopter type and the first few hours you can usually see him struggle a little in the beginning, not being able to hold a steady hover and especially on pick up and set down to/from the ground. When you start out with helicopters you start out with the ones that are most difficult to fly. Most likley the R22 which is small, basic and sensitive helicopter. Astar (350), Bell 207 etc are much easier to fly. One of the guys at the school used to fly Apache and Cobra and he said they are much easier to fly than the R22. At the school I used to work for the goal was for a student to be able to hover within 10 hours, solo before 30 hours and get the PPL(private) at around 65 hours. This was with the R22. I first did my trainning in Australia and there we used the Schweizer and there the normal was more hover within 5 hours, solo around 15 and PPL around 55 hours. Since I have some hours under my belt, I find it more difficult to fly helicopters in a sim than IRL. Reason for that is that I have no sense of movement and limited vision in a sim. IRL you can feel in you pants and on the controls what the helicopter is doing and because of the lag in the controls you make corrections based on feel. In forward flight it's not so bad but it's not so easy feeling sideways movement, a little up and down etc in a sim. In a sim you kinda have to see the movement before you can react, and since there is a little lag in the controls you are always chasing it a little. Just to give a short example. Any of you guys and girls in here with around 40 hours RL in a helicopter, should be able to stay in a stable hover above the ground. Look at another point on the ground say 10 feet away. IRL it's easy quickly going to that spot and stop in a stable hover in any direction you like. In a sim I find these things really hard. Got a little carried away here, sorry for messy post. Cheers

In the mission briefings for the Mig 29 missions it says I-RWIN to change frequency, but on keycard it says I-RShift which is correct. I also get a big decrease in framerate when I toggle on the full infobar. Just the framerate is fine, but when I get all the memory info I go from 30 fps to about 10. Didn't happen in BS. Had Catalyst AI enabled, seems that was reason for drop in framerate.

Tried a new flight today and was cruising along and game freezes again. Was not pushing any buttons or anything. Tried Alt-Tab and Ctrl-Alt-Delete but nothing happens. After about a minute or so I hear my plane hit the ground and then it seems it wants to go back to menu, but then my computer resets I guess all the Ctrl-Alt-Delete kicks in. So it might seem that it's the graphics/screen that locks up?

I've attached 2 error.txt files, lastmission.trk and dxdiag if you are interested. Last freeze was during finals to land. Since I've only done a few flights, I've pretty much just flown along with a few of the Mig29 trainning missions, and then suddenly freeze. No advance stuff. In graphics.cfg I set MaxFPS = 60, and I set head roll shaking = false in View.lua. Had to zip the 2 error files togheter to get it to upload. Time out when I try uploading the lastmission.trk. It's about 6.7 Mb but no luck when zipped either. Cheers DxDiag_LeadBird.txt error.zip

I've done about 5 flights and 3 of them have ended up with a lock up. Screen freezes while I can still hear sound. Reboot on 2 of them, but on one of them I pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL and finally got back to debrief screen with no "timestamp" messages. Can't find any crash file if you wanna have a look? In the temp folder there is a file called Error and one called errors? Not sure if they are helpfull? I don't use any profiler for controllers, and have only been using Track IR and Thrushmaster Afterburner, so I have only a few keys mapped on joystick. Still might have happened pressing a joystick button and keyboard key at the same time?

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
JasBird replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Hope it is the Apache. -
I have no problems with the price increase. I'm sure it's worth it. Compared to what you pay for other games, I think flight sims are "cheap" considering the long time enjoyment you get compared to most games. It's not easy to survive without making money :(

Norwegain here. I would love to join you aswell. Haven't played BS or LO for over a year, so I would need to get back into it a little first.

Will the DCS A-10C support multi cores?
JasBird replied to kingneptune117's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I have 4 Gb of RAM. If I remeber correctly Win 7 comes with both as 32 & 64 bit on same disc? Will the 64 bit create any trouble with 5-6 year older programs? What version of Win 7 do you recommend? Would there be an advantage getting a Quad CPU compared to Duo CPU when it comes to performance in DSC and Win 7? -
Will the DCS A-10C support multi cores?
JasBird replied to kingneptune117's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Thanks for replies. I have pretty good cooling on my computer and always messed around a little with all computers I've had. Didn't have much luck with my current computer. Got a lot of crashes with BS when trying to overclock CPU and grahpics card. Always makes me nervous when computer gives blank screen on startup :) Temperature haven't been a problem just lock ups in general. Around 18% increase is something I would guess aswell. Haven't really had time to get back into BS after the patch came out, but I understand there should be a small improvement in performance? I have been considering getting Win 7. So if I understand correctly, Win 7 will give a small increase aswell compared to Win XP? -
Will the DCS A-10C support multi cores?
JasBird replied to kingneptune117's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hi Didn't wanna start a new thread, so I'll just drop my question in here. I about to get back in to Black Shark and look forward to FC2.0. Must admit I haven't played BS after the patch came out. I run Win XP and have a Intel dual core E6750 that runs at 2.66 Ghz I belive. Thinking about upgrading to a Dual E8500 that runs at 3.16 Ghz I think. I upgraded my graphics card from a Nvidia GT8600 to an ATI 4850 just after BS came out, but with very little improvment. I understand this game is CPU dependant mostly, but any guess how much of an improvement I would get with the new CPU? The game runs ok with my setting at the moment, but I would like a little improvment and higher display setting. Cheers -
Problems completing 'Clear Tkvarcheli'
JasBird replied to GAJ52's topic in User Created Missions General
I've been struggling with this mission aswell. Really hard to find targets. This time I just followed the road(to Tkvarcheli) after take off and cleared my way flying low up to the town. Stayed on the southside and cleared everything I could and watching the convoy and providing cover. Anyways I belive the convoy consist of 4 vehicles and I followed them personally all the way back to the FARP, but I got 0% mission complete? I belive I've seen a few cross the bridge previously in a mission aswell, but I taught I had to get alteast the 2 truck safe back, but no luck. Also my wingman keeps dropping flares. If we get a lock and I go low for cover I keep hearing him dropping flares? He probably goes until he's empty. Also I noticed the wingman will not land, but just stand outside the helipads in low hover and wait, even if I give him RTB. Not sure if this happens just in this mission? And no I did not take his landing spot :) In another attempt I took his landing pad, but this time I let him pick first, still he just stands there. Is there some mission conditions I've missed? Tricky mission. Also I had another mission 75% success, but logbok says missions 0?? Cheers
