  1. I set my monitor screen resolution to 1360x768 since it's displayed while playing in VR? I assume the GPU has to work harder if I leave it in 2560x1440 since it renders the 2d screen at same time as VR? Is it possible to deactivate the 2d screen when in VR, or no effect on performance?
  2. Very happy with MT boost performance in VR. Is it just me, or does the flying feel more responsive and smoother? Only tested F-5, Mirage 2000C and Viggen. More CPU power to the flight model? Haven't played for over a month, before the MT patch, so maybe just forgotten how nice it is to fly in DCS?
  3. Didn't mean better than Nvidia, but more equal to Nvidia, with new EDGE engine. Last year I upgraded from older Nvidia card to a newer AMD, but almost no increase in performance when comparing graphics cards. Considering swithcing to Nvidia if they continue to perform better in DCS.
  4. I understand that Nvidia performs better tham AMD cards because of better DirectX9 support? EDGE being DirectX11, will this make AMD cards perform better?
  5. If we move over to Steam does that mean you don't have to worry about running out of activations?
  6. Just a little tip for all you test pilots out there. Back in the good old days I used to play Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer. In the manual it had some manouvers/test you should go through to find the limits of the aircraft. The manual also provided a data sheet to record the numbers. Was quite fun to compare the different aircrafts. Since we have several aircrafts in Lock on I taught perhaps someone would find it interesting to compare the performance of the different aircrafts. It's also I nice way to learn about the aircraft you are flying. I have the original game lying around somewhere, but if you do a google search for: chuck yeager's advanced flight trainer manual you should be able to find the manual in PDF format. Cheers
  7. I've had similar problem in DSC World both in the Black Shark and FC3. The coms button stops responding. I think it happens after I use F12 to exit the comms menu.
  8. Might be and idea to set visibilty range for trees to 0 then, to save framerate? No point in having them blocking your view if they don't block enemies view. I guess that also means you don't crash when flying through trees? Been a while since I played, needed a computer upgrade, but I always try and position myself behind a hill and move out to the side and get a shot in and then sideways back in for cover. Feel so "naked" when popping up behind a hill :)
  9. Vortex Ring State means you sink in your on turbulent air. Only happens in a hover or slow airspeed. To get out of it gain speed to move in to "clean" air. Basically you loose lift and stall the rotor blades, so it's advised to lower collective aswell. Raising the collective only stalls the rotor even more and worsen the situation.
  10. I'm up for some Black Shark. How about this weekend? Not sure where you guys usually play? I did a few missions a couple of days ago on the 104th server with TS3, was a blast. Also have FC2, but have only flown the Mig29 and SU27, but enjoying BS at the moment. Runs pretty smooth with the new patch and after I upgraded to Win 7.
  11. Finally managed to download the iPod version :) Paused and restarted the download a couple of times(Firefox) and that seemed to do the trick. Just watched the lesson and have to say it's brilliant! Very impressive and professional made. I can't imagine all the work and planning required to make this lesson. Look forward to the next lessons.
  12. In the game enemy helicopters has given me a lot of trouble. They are very hard to see and you need to scan a big area really quickly or I seem to get shot down fast. It's usually my wingman that sees them first and calls it out. I usually give them order to attack and at the same time try and find them and take them out with a Vikhr. I often find the wingmen doing a poor job taking out enemy helos and I think enemy helicopters is the reason for about 40% of my deaths. Wingmen also seems to follow enemy helos over enemy ground units which is also a problem engaging with the gun. Problems is that they always show up at worst possible moment. You are set up low and slow trying to avoid AA and SAM.
  13. Come to think of it I updated my sound drivers a few days ago, so maybe problem started after that. Uninstalled some codecs I've had aswell and reinstalled sound drivers, so I'll give it a go later. Had so much trouble installing the soundcards drivers again, that I got so mad and ordered WIN 7. After that I off course figured it out :) Anyways a normal uninstall off FC2 and BS will give me a deactivation code or do I have to go through Starforce? Thanks again.
  14. I had a feeling that it was sound aswell all along, but assumed graphics cards, since I get error message that graphics cards no longer responds and screen changes to VGA 640x480. I have a lot of codec & sound applications installed :) I'll try and uninstall them. Thanks for tip. EDIT: No overclocking here, and like to keep all my drivers up to date.
  15. No worries. Been playing alot latley, so need a break anyways :) Finally gotten around to update my BIOS (nerve wrecking process), and made sure all other drivers are up to date, but still no luck. Funny that the problem only occured on 2 specific mission. Makes you wonder? Off to watch snooker. EDIT: I'm starting to wonder if there really is a problem with specific mission. Right now I get lock ups all the time in the "Return to Teberda" mission. Did a couple of other missions and they went fine. There was 2 other mission in the "Deployment" campaign that always locked up. Can't remeber their names, but the first I had problems with was the one where you need to take out 3 bunkers in support for ground troops, and the second was a few missions just after that with a long flight where you had to cross a high mountain ridge.
  16. The funny thing is that it was running fine for a while with Adaptive AA, then one specific mission started to crash all the time in the campaign. Disabled Adaptive AA and running fine for quite some time, but now it started to crash in one specific mission again. Last crash I had to reboot myself, and now I had to redo the previous mission, and that went fine. I've now chosen a lower resolution and gonna see what happens. Very annoying that the crashes occur in mission where it's a long way to fly to the target :) Cheers
  17. Game has started to crash again. Have attached the crash file. Been running fine for a while, but now the same crash symptoms has returned. First it was because Adaptive AI was enabled, which is a known problem. Then I disabled Adaptive AA which seemed to cure the problem, but not anymore. DCS-20100424-200512.zip
  18. I got the same here last time I played mission. Guess it's because we are low on fuel. I see him start to fly back to base and I get "rejoin" all the time. I start to fly back to base aswell and he crashes a minute or so before I ran out of fuel a couple of clicks to short. Having a hard time finishing this mission? :( Only find 2 ZSU?
  19. I'm having a hard time finishing this mission aswell. Can't find the third ZSU? I've even hovered around slowly all over town after taking out allmost everything except some of the infantery. Hard to explain in writing, but seen from the IP, you pretty much have one ZSU straight ahead, beginning of town, and then to the right along the river. My last try I managed to trigger the insertion, but a destroyed bridge seems to halt the troops moving from the IP towards town?
  20. Couldn't have said it better myself
  21. Firstly some USB devices don't like to be connected to USB Hubs and USB ports on the front panel of your computer. My Thrustmaster joystick is responding very strange when plugged in the front, but the Sidewinder is fine. I have a steering wheel aswell that won't work unless I use USB connectin at the back of the PC. I would also recommend try some curvature on the bank/pitch axis. I use about 25% on my Thrustmaster otherwise it's oversensetive. With the Sidewinder I can do fine without curvature. Helicopters are forces fighting against each other. Make one change with one controller and it will affect the other. Say if you fly a helicopter with an anticlockwise rotating main rotor. If you raise the collective the blades wants to flap more and the highest point is at your 12 o'clock. The effect will come 90 degrees later (on your 9 o'clock(rotor spins anticlockwise)) so the nose will want to come up and the helicopter will pitch to the right. And you would have to add left pedal to stay in balanse because more collective/power wants to spin the helicopter in opposite direction(clockwise) and the ratio between main and tail rotor is about 1:6, so more left pedal is needed. Cheers
  22. I also had to disable Adaptive AA after a while to stop BS from crashing.
  23. I wouldn't mess with the trim in the beginning when learining to hover. Try 10% deadzone on pitch and bank axis for the cyclic, and a curvature of atleast 25%. When in combat and for hovering I use the Flight Director(LCtrl A), because it doesn't feel like "Autopilot" is fighting agains me.
