You're right, Victory. After doin' some digging I found this: So... case closed.

So, how on earth does the DLC binding work? Jabbers has said that the default bindings for the TM Warthog are good enough that he hasn't changed them, and he tests the DLC in the startup video so it must function, but I just can't picture how the DLC would work on the controller. There aren't any scroll wheels on the throttle and the only axis that is spring-loaded to center (besides the joystick obviously) is the TDC nub. Where does the DLC go, and how does it work?

DCS: F-14 Cold and Dark (Startup Video)
Sergeant_Hamlet replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
The startup procedure was about 50% system checks. I'm sure you could reduce the start time by omitting those parts in a scramble scenario, but "proper procedure" would demand that you make sure the several-million-dollar machine you've been trusted with is working correctly before taking it off the ground. -
Aerodynamics behind roll reversal and adverse yaw
Sergeant_Hamlet replied to MRaza's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Yes. I was incorrect in my assumption that the maneuver flaps were used to roll the plane. After reviewing the NATOPS, it says: Lateral control is effected by differential displacement of horizontal stabilizers and augmented by wing spoilers at wing-sweep position of less than 62 percent (2.22.3). The flaps aren't mentioned in the flight controls section at all. It appears the flaps are used for high-lift augmentation and not for attitude control. NATOPS again says that they are commanded symmetrically by the CADC, and purely as a function of AOA or Mach number. -

The sounds at the end there are just pure pornography. -
Quick question for testers/devs

That's a bummer. Oh well. Looks like i'll be goin' it solo. -
Has anyone tried a CASE I landing in the tomcat with Alerax's LSO AI script? If so does it work? https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=223672

I pre-purchased on steam because that's where I had all my modules... right before ED gave us the ability to transfer to standalone. However, I cannot transfer my f-14 purchase because the license is not available. I am really really hoping that they release the aircraft on both platforms at the same time, otherwise I'm stuck waiting even longer to fly the 'cat.

My poor heart! Don’t joke like that, man!

Books and further reading about the Tomcat
Sergeant_Hamlet replied to Mule's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Three left in stock now. There were four earlier, but then I came along. -
It means that as of now, literally nothing has changed.

Guys, he doesn't mean monetarily invested, he means PERSONALLY invested.

Have you read Black Aces High by Robert Wilcox? Also, where did you get Shaw's Fighter Combat in print? -
He's not omniscient. He can only see what he's looking at. If he's looking at his instruments, he can only see his instrument. If he's looking at a bandit to your left, he can't see one to your right. And if he's looking at the radar, then there's no way he can see something that the radar can't see. In fact, this issue is probably the one of the subjects of the "two squadrons worth of f-14's" that have been online on an HB test server.

You're a hard man to please, I see. Once the module is released and people start making fan videos you'll have more cinematic content than you can shake a stick at. One of them will surely make you say "wow I want to get DCS and buy this product."
-
Well, the cockpit walkaround video ends by saying "next time we'll demonstrate a cold startup procedure"so, you're getting what you want just in two separate videos. :)

Jabbers did two rather extensive tacview debriefs on AIM-54's performance against fighter-sized maneuvering targets. Do you really need Magz to make a video to tell you that human targets are going to be harder to hit? Of course they are. You know that already.

Sure sounded like one :smilewink:

The FOIA only guarantees you the right to make a request for documents, and the right to receive an ANSWER to that request. The answer may be no, but the answer itself is the only guarantee. https://www.dhs.gov/foia-limits-and-exemptions

Aerodynamics behind roll reversal and adverse yaw

Thank you. That makes complete sense. I hadn’t considered that the flaps weren’t differential. Sounds like learning the jet is gonna be an absolute blast. -
Aerodynamics behind roll reversal and adverse yaw
Sergeant_Hamlet replied to MRaza's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
So I'm trying to picture what happens at high AOA to produce roll reversal. Let's assume about 25 units with unswept wings. 1. Right lateral stick is commanded, maneuvering flaps deploy on left wing, spoilers deploy on right wing. 2. Aircraft rolls right, but yaws left due to higher left wing drag, as the right wing spoilers are "hidden" from the airflow due to high AOA. 3. Left yaw exposes right wing to perpendicular airflow, and generates higher lift on the inside wing. 4. Aircraft rolls left. That sequence feels like I'm missing a component. It's also a huge oversimplification. I share OP's desire to understand. The manual talks a lot about WHAT will happen during lateral control reversal, but doesn't talk at all about WHY it happens. -
Aerodynamics behind roll reversal and adverse yaw
Sergeant_Hamlet replied to MRaza's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
According to NATOPS (11.5.2) "the F-14 exhibits positive dihedral effect throughout the positive AOA envelope" So at high AOA, the shape of the outside wing causes enough drag to produce side slip in the opposite direction to the roll, and eventually the dihedral roll overpowers the commanded roll input. Does that sound about right? -
Aerodynamics behind roll reversal and adverse yaw
Sergeant_Hamlet replied to MRaza's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Not an expert so I speak under correction, but this is how I understand it. Aerodynamically, adverse and proverse yaw and both caused by one wing experiencing higher drag than the other. In the Tomcat's case i assume this is because the spoilers that deploy on the up-spin wing and the maneuvering flaps that deploy on the down-spin wing have different surface areas. -
I mean, the mission name says "HB_Test_V2". Mostly likely, some more high profile community members were recruited to help stress-test the multiplayer environment. And maybe help film content for some form of promotion, which if true would most likely be the launch trailer. Either way it means they're there to do work. This is actually good news. It means it is very close now.
