Is DCS worth it with just a normal hotas?
deathbysybian replied to conura's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The problem is the real world does not match the cockpit and there are obstacles to interacting with the switches by hand. I use the face-mouse for most of the switches. There are a lot of buttons on an F18 hotas! I do map some things that are hard to reach / behind me or straight down that kink my neck to look at. -

Touch controllers for hotas? I can't think of anything less real feeling and a floaty stick. -

In VR you'll want as many things mapped as possible. I use the throttle pinkey and ring finger buttons as modifier 1 and modifier 2. You can also press both at the same time as a 3rd modifier. These two buttons are convenient because all your other fingers can still be used for the rest of the buttons. (That is, those two fingers are only used for those two buttons) -

Logic of JDAM pages on MFD, need help understanding

I was able to queue up 8 unique targets, it's just super convoluted now. It's hard to believe this is how it actually works. Autopilot does not capture true heading

In the HSI/Data/Aircraft page you can toggle between magnetic and true. Not sure if this would resolve your issue or not though. -

[REPORTED] TOO Mode Switches to PP After Firing a JSOW
deathbysybian replied to boo_n_817's topic in Bugs and Problems
Looks like 5 or more threads on the same problem, with various topic descriptions. I guess it has visibility now. If a dev asks for steps to reproduce it, I ask for them to provide steps that don't reproduce it. -
[REPORTED] TOO Mode Switches to PP After Firing a JSOW
deathbysybian replied to boo_n_817's topic in Bugs and Problems
[MISSNG TRACK FILE] JSOW/JDAM PP mode completely broken now. STEP should not default to TOO mode. There's no way after the patch to cycle through the PP stored data without erasing them all. What's worse, when you pickle, it reverts to TOO mode, which causes the most recent target to now be in memory. There is no way to switch back to PP mode without overwriting the old value, and leaving it in TOO mode obviously won't work. -
If fixing it is hard, there are a few easy mitigations they could implement. Why isn't there a forward and backward version of f7?
-
A sanity check on the net code would prevent aircraft parked on the ground from shooting straight up and down at over mach 1 with accompanied sonic booms, endlessly.
-
In multiplayer there are many many phantom rockets flying that you have to cycle through to get to your own weapon view using F6. If you can't fix that, can you at least make a version of F6 that cycles through only your own weapons And if not that, can you at least make F6 start with the weapons you just dropped, not the oldest ones in flight (which are in flight forever)

The flashing makes me flinch like someone flicking popcorn at me, happens once every 10 minutes or so. My only complaint about the S is that the S must stand for Sucky Sound because it's like listening to the game through headphones someone else is wearing, and putting on my own headphones makes me feel like I stepped back in time to the launch Vive days where you had to load all this crap on your head.

I believe I read that the employee who picked up the task of adding multi-crew quit the company.

I have about 500 hours, I haven't tried single player other than some training and instant action training missions.

I always liked the look of it, because it reminds me of one of my RC jets and when I saw it had an anti-ship missile it sealed the deal. Excitedly went to blow up some ships online. You know the rest. RIP.

There are no buttons to map to fly the huey, just the regular pitch/roll/rudder/collective. Throttle is on governor. However, helicopters take a lot of practice, and the Huey is more demanding than most sims. The twist joystick isn't very precise for the controls you need on a helicopter. Rudder pedals will go a long way. You can fine tune your axis controls to maybe have 20% of exponential so that the middle of the stick is less sensitive and more precise. Practice without weapons, and only a half tank of fuel.

Presently, it's like one of those single-AA battery wide beam flashlights you get in the grocery store check out line. -
Is the Huey going to get multicrew anytime soon?
deathbysybian replied to ville1001's topic in DCS: UH-1H
The people I fly with would buy the huey right away if you could have multicrew gunners. That would be an amazing experience. -
