  1. SS scales the number of pixels which is a product of both horizontal and vertical resolution. To get to 200% SS (or 196% more accurately), increase the resolution on your x axis by 140% and on your y axis by 140%. (1.4*1.4=1.96) Here is proof (screenshots from Steam showing SS values): At 200% SS you have = 2136*2376 = 5.075 million At 100% SS you have = 1512*1680 = 2.54 million The "Pixel Density" term used in DCS is not the same as Steam SS. PD changes BOTH x and y resolutions having a multiplicative effect while SS just changes the number of pixels by that factor and then changes the x and y resolutions proportionately. Edit: No idea what terminologies occulus uses.
  2. Vive. And your math is totally off. Vive = 1080*1200= 1.296 million per eye. Double it for two eyes and again double it for 200% SS which comes to 5.1 million. Reverb = 2160*2160 = 4.665 million per eye. Or 9.3 million for two eyes. These are the exact figures I quote in my post.
  3. No, 5.1 million is with the 200% SS.
  4. I am tempted. But I know the Index will probably be better and I do want to see what the Reverb is all about. So gonna hold out for now. If they both disappoint, I can get this anytime. There'll be sales in the future. BTW OP, I dont think even a 2080Ti can run a Reverb. I mean my 1080Ti struggles with the 5.1 million pixels I push for DCS at 200% SS. The Reverb will have 9.3 million pixels! Let's see how much 2.5.5 improves VR performance.
  5. There are many VR Googles for you to choose from. If you want a VR Google right now, get the Rift S. But if you can wait a few months, (possibly) better VR Googles will hit the market like the Valve Index and HP Reverb. Enjoy your VR Google!
  6. What's the difference the pro and the non-pro? I cant find anything on google...
  7. After probably 6-8 tries, I finally managed to beat the last mission! Enough of the anti ship missiles went through to sink the US CV. I would still say the mission is totally borked since you have zero control over the success of the mission. Its just random luck whether enough missiles get through to the CV.
  8. Who said it was? I was merely quoting how it works. You either satay above 90 or make sure you stay above 45. Reducing graphics settings to go from 60 FPS to, say, 70 will not have any positive impact. Based on the Valve article I quoted, it does. Which is why I am wondering why people are chasing small FPS gains because Motion Smoothing will lock you at either 90/ 45/ 30/ 15 FPS with the rest of the frames being interpolated. BTW, if I turn Motion Smoothing off, it just shows the same frame again instead of interpolating one, right? That will cause stutters.
  9. I am a bit confused with all of this FPS talk. If Motion Smoothing is activated, does it matter if you are at 50 FPS or 70? SteamVR takes 45 FPS as input from your GPU and interpolates 45 extra frames. So whether you get 50 FPS or 80 FPS - you will see the exact same thing. The only optimisation is necessary to make sure you dont dip below 45. Isn't that how it works? (Also note that other thresholds exist at 30 FPS and 15 FPS) This is based on Valve's explanation of Motion Smoothing. https://steamcommunity.com/games/250820/announcements/detail/1696061565016280495 "This means that the player is still experiencing full framerate (90 Hz for the Vive and Vive Pro), but the application only needs to render 1 out of every 2 frames, dramatically lowering the performance requirements. Even better, if synthesizing a new frame for every frame delivered by the application still leads to performance issues, Motion Smoothing is designed to scale further down to synthesize 2 frames or even 3 frames for every 1 frame delivered."
  10. The apps are rather inaccurate. If you cant get a reading from an optometrist, just stand with your face 8-10 inches in front of a mirror and measure IPD with a scale. Your accuracy will be a lot better than those mobile apps.
  11. I read about this change in the patch-log of Steam VR. Anyway, I have mine set to 100% and then changed them for each application individually in the app tab.
  12. Fine tuning settings for optimal performance in VR is quite a task. But I managed to finally strike a good balance for my 1080TI/ Vive combo. Getting 45-90 FPS which is pretty alright with Motion Smoothing. BUT, in some missions that goes down to less than 15 FPS which is intolerable. And I am not talking spikes, it stays below 15 permanently in those missions. For example, the Red Flag Single Mission for the Hornet. Do others also get this level of degradation based on missions (FPS dropping to less than a third)? How do I fix it? What do others do? Just avoid them altogether?
  13. I tried this in Feb and had to give up. The last mission is just not possible.
  14. Yes, latest open beta. I am on a i7 4790K OC @ 4.7, 1080Ti OC, 16GB RAM (downloaded off the internet of course), Samsung Pro SSD. I only asked because I read some comments that it was crashing in VR for others as well so was just wondering if its stable in VR now.
  15. FYI, this has been mentioned in the latest Beta patch:
  16. I have also failed about 5 times in this mission. I took out all 4 Migs by luring them towards the carrier and was able to take them out with the help of the tomcats. However, my problems were different: - The SEAD flight doesn't take out the SAM but some random vehicles. - I dropped all bombs, they hit the helos but I still dont get mission success. - My wingman is more useless than normal. He says "unable" when I ask him to engage bandits and bingo fuel when I tell him to engage primary. This mission is not hard, it's just susceptible to the core game's bugs.
  17. Yea, more bad news. it seems the latest patch has again messed with something. Both my wingmen are crashing now during takeoff from the carrier.
  18. I am using this mod and it really saves a lot of time. I am in VR so it was such a pain to take off my HMD and check the manual every time so see what the button is. Also using the Sukhoi English cockpit mods. BTW, what does the mod creator mean by "must re-do all textures"? It seems to work fine for me except that the warning lights are still in Russian. Is there something else I am missing? Are they going to be higher resolution? Asking as a noob.
  19. Thank you so much for this video!! Coming from the Sukhois, I was losing my mind as to why altitude hold wasn't working! Now I know I have to use attitude hold first!
  20. Oh man, that'll be Epic! I suspect Vietnam, Korea will be the next maps after the current pipeline (Syria, Afg) is done.
