Yeah I really do like what the mod community does, but maybe one day... I think you have the system nailed down pretty good Rudel, judging by the screenshots your obviously getting a lot of enjoyment out of DCS. But I can also tell that you are the computer tinkering type, which I'm not.

When will we see a major update to the games Core mechanics?
Callsign112 replied to ak22's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Doubt very much that it is. -
Oh I know don't remind me. I might have to revisit the issue, but for the time being I'm sticking with the story that my friends don't like mod managers so I can't use it No but seriously, I don't run the Beta versions when they are available because of the grief it can cause, and mods seem to be even worse for me. I would really love to, but just found its not worth it, even if the models are. Would love to see any of those make it into the game.

Frontlines Georgia Campaign
Callsign112 replied to Rudel_chw's topic in Combined Arms: Frontlines Georgia
His mission 11 video is up if you haven't seen it yet. He kills all enemy units, but can't get the mission to end. I think he ends up just quitting the mission to get it to end, but could it be anything to do with moving your units into the objective areas? He seems to do that, but until I play it myself it is really hard to tell exactly. When you say unwinnable, do you mean you weren't able to destroy all enemy units, or you had the same problem he shows in the video? -
Yeah and the most upsetting part about all of this for me is all the amazing mods I am locking myself out from using... Do you see where this is going? Is there anyway members of the super talented modding community here would consider having their work included as official content, especially any WWII ships?

+1. There is certainly a collector interest here for me, but with something like DCS where the player is taking part in competitive game play, its collector value gets a boost in at least two important ways IMO. The first being the collector gets to also enjoy the feeling that he/she is also taking part in the continued development of the thing being collected. The second is it provides an opportunity to improve your skill. There is a lot to be said about knowing your enemies strengths and weaknesses. Even if you never really master flying a 109, getting in one now and again can help you better understand what its like to chase and be chased by one. -

I enjoyed reading your comments, but highlighted just these two sentences because I think they form the thrust of the point your trying to make. I also believe the first sentence is important to ED as a company especially in terms of informing the direction it takes to serve its loyal customer base. Whether it is realized or not, I think most here want the same thing as you, and anyone trying to suggest your interests here makes you irrelevant is simply misinformed IMO. I believe the improvements you are hoping for are coming, but my advice would be to keep the past separate from the future. I couldn't agree more though, it really doesn't matter which module I decide to open in DCS because I am equally amazed with all of them. And improving all the other aspect of DCS will only add to that amazement. -

I don't think anyone could blame someone else for feeling the frustration that gets stacked on top of waiting with what might seem like no light at the end of the tunnel. And I don't have near the experience you do here, but I have to say that I have seen a number of improvements since arriving in 2019. The way I see things at the moment is they are trying to tackle some real big ticket items. Big ticket probably doesn't really do a good job at conveying the actual gravity of the situation, but I think you get my point. Based on what little information they were willing to share, my guess is they will conclude on implementing the technologies to support VR/advanced graphics by late 2022, early 2023. My hope is once that is done, we will start seeing improvements in the cycle time needed for other developments. -
I would not be interested in a fictional map. I am making way too much use of them as it is. Currently, we have no N. Africa map to recreate any of the WWII action that took place there. All I can do to simulate that is use a fictional setting on either of the desert maps I own (PG/Nevada). And if that isn't enough, the Channel/Normandy have to double as the entire European continent. We have enough fiction, what we need are real maps.

Oh okay, that makes sense. I have never tried VR, so good to know thanks.

When will we see a major update to the games Core mechanics?
Callsign112 replied to ak22's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I more than likely would have done the same thing as you had it not been for someone giving me the heads up on the how it works before buying the FC3. The FC3 package is a really good value proposition, but after looking more closely at the situation, I prefer to buy the individual modules even if I decide later on to get them all and have to spend a few dollars more. -
Is this plane the ugly stepchild of DCS?
Callsign112 replied to Rebel28's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
awesome post! Yeah when you look at something like the A10A to A10C... The jump is easy to make because they are two very different planes technologically speaking. And even the A10C to A10CII had a strong argument because if I understand correctly, there were things missing that added significant value on top of the major texture buff. But in the case of the Mustang, maybe they could pull it off by adding more detail to the model itself, or using next level modeling techniques that would allow increased detail while offering better performance. But even if it was just a major texture buff that previous owners were offered for some upgrade fee, I would gladly buy the new paint for my little Ferrari. -
Nice screen shots. DCS WWII has its issues, but it is growing in the right direction. But in terms of the planes themselves, nothing compares IMO. Why do you get that blacked out ring around the image, is that just how VR is?

When will we see a major update to the games Core mechanics?
Callsign112 replied to ak22's topic in DCS Core Wish List
No probably not. I don't know about you @MAXsenna, but I'm at least getting double the fun. Buying something being sold in two different packages isn't half as bad as buying the MiG 21 when you don't even own a joystick! But I wouldn't give it back even if they offered me a refund because it is such a beautiful module and I will eventually get to learning it. The question is when, because my list of modules to learn is getting long and set to grow apparently. But in the end, I think its what actually attracts me to DCS the most. It really is a learning SIM. -

More options for above ground fortifications
Callsign112 replied to Callsign112's topic in DCS Core Wish List
+1. Is that a digital image, or a picture of a real model? The thing with sandbags is they could be used for both modern and WWII scenarios, but yeah I wouldn't say no to your suggestion either. -
We already have a couple of very nicely detailed items that can be used to fortify an armored vehicle position. They even come complete with a damage model. Thanks ED. It would be great to have more options like like sandbags that could be arranged in various formations in either the base game, or as a paid asset.

I think what's missing here is the complexity behind overhauling something the size of DCS World. The fact that other products/updates are being released while we wait for core improvements might be leaving some of us with the impression that ED doesn't care about improving core features and that progress on updating DCS World itself has stalled, even though work on the core has been ongoing all along. I trust if ED needed to make a change in its business model that it would have enough insight to do that, but I don't think money issues are the reason for the long delays in core updates. I think it just takes that long. And I think part of what we are seeing here is the effect waiting without knowing has on people, especially when those people are paying customers. Don't believe me? I can think of at least one other popular WWII flight SIM that has been working on its Normandy campaign since November of 2019, and it still isn't finished. Obviously they benefit most by getting the product in customers hands, and the fact that they have been unable to do that until now tells me that it just takes that long.

Is this plane the ugly stepchild of DCS?
Callsign112 replied to Rebel28's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I would certainly support an updated version of the P-51 with a purchase, but I don't think the argument for updating the Mustang is exactly the same as the argument that could be raised with something like an A10A to A10C upgrade. The 10A/C are two very different planes. If the module is really popular IMO, and draws in a lot of new customers, then it might be possible to update the module just to stay ahead of the curve in regards to competing platforms. If the module adds significantly to growing the community and the brand loyalty that is attached to that, then keeping all the owners of the module updated can't really be seen as being done for free because those same loyal customers will likely go on to purchase the Jug, the German crates, and what ever else is on offer, while at the same time an updated Mustang keeps the sex-appeal going to draw in new customers. I really arrived here with the hope that CA/WWII assets was going to give me what I was looking for in a ground war scenario, but had I been looking just at DCS WWII for the flight SIM side, it would have been a no-show without the Mustang regardless of the release date of each plane. But your point is well taken, and there is more to consider then just an updated plane as DCS World expands to warrant the release of a P-51 v2.0! -

+1. I think most here want the same thing, its just some are able to deal with the waiting better than others. -
Is this plane the ugly stepchild of DCS?
Callsign112 replied to Rebel28's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Going by other modules and threads on the forum, I think most seem to support this concept. Especially for anyone that becomes attached to the module in question. I would certainly buy an updated P-51 if ED decided to add it. -
+1. I would also like to add how much I appreciate the level of professionalism the mods routinely show given the difficult tasks they often have to deal with here on the forum. All in and issues aside, thanks ED!

Callsign112 replied to Rebel28's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I really hope your right. Not only because of the improvements that it will bring, but the calming effect it would have on the community. There seems to be an endless supply of toxic threads that can very often be linked back to longstanding unresolved issues. This would be perfectly acceptable for most I am sure as it has been in the past. If I understand correctly, the K-50 was not the only module to see this. -

And what do you get if you buy some of the modules more than once? Cuz apparently that's a thing. -
Nothing in the most recent change-log. Still waiting for the announced update.
