Is this plane the ugly stepchild of DCS?
Callsign112 replied to Rebel28's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Your English is pretty good BTW. I get your point and don't disagree. I mean how can anyone blame someone for being frustrated because they feel like they are being left in a state of constant waiting. My take on it though is from a slightly different perspective, but again it has nothing over your own view in the sense that we are both just guessing. Stepping back after reading some of the hot debates surrounding the issue of new module early access release vs older bug/maintenance fixes, the question that kept popping up for me was why would they do that? And the only logical conclusion I could find was they wouldn't by choice. Which leads me to believe building up a module inventory was a necessity to keeping the doors open so to speak. So I think the constant addition of new modules was not only heavily anticipated by the community, it was a requirement for survival. If any of this has any truth to it, then the hope is that the current inventory of available modules is now large enough to provide ED with the resources needed to go back and do the much needed house keeping while they continue to move forward. The other side of this is that there will always likely be bugs of some sort because of the constant need for improvements. Bugs are not just the result of an unfinished module, but old bugs may reappear as well as new ones can crop up with each new addition to the SIM. So unless DCS World itself stops evolving, I don't ever expect to see a bug free SIM. What I hope to see is ED improving on its ability to decrease the amount of time it takes to respond to any issues that do crop up. -

The funny thing is I watched the video announcement, but never read that. But I do get a slightly different feel having just read it, and am not sure if you would agree after reading it again. Notice at the very beginning of the announcement it starts with: "We are glad to inform you that the WWII bug fixing process is moving along steadily. We have already closed many outstanding issues and these fixes will be available to you in the next Open Beta." My personal feeling is that they are doing what was promised. There is obviously a focus on the 3 last planes, but both the Dora and Mustang also saw a couple important updates. We could also throw the WWII version of the Mariana Islands, updated radar, bomb fusing, and the Yak in there with the realization there is only so much that can be done at once. They progressed 6 different prop planes, albeit with a focus on the 3 most recently released. As long as they start and continue addressing the long standing issues, I am very happy to also see the most recent 3 get the planned improvements as well. -

All really good points and well said, but there is still a very strong case for ED to update the older modules and fix whatever ails them because just like the most recently released modules, the Mustang continues to attract new players to DCS WWII. The Mustang sells currently for the exact same price as the Jug for example, and it is worth every penny! The Mustang was my first flying module in DCS, and it remains my favorite. But that's more of a childhood dream thing and is not meant to say that I don't like, or appreciate the other WWII modules. I think once you get into something like DCS, chances are your likely to get more than one module if not all of them. One of DCS W's biggest strengths is that it attempts to capture the individual characteristics of each RL plane, and the differences between them are more than obvious when flying them. More than anything I think this forms the strongest reason for ED to keep them all up to date. -

Ugly? definitely not. Neglected?... maybe just a little. The three planes listed as being worked on were the last three planes released, could it have anything to do with that? I am not offering an excuse, but it sounds like they are working on problems identified with the new modules. I would like to better understand the context the bold text above was written in, can you point me to where you found that text? In terms of money matters, DCS WWII is being worked on continuously and is constantly growing. While I agree the pace seems way to slow, I would like to think ED realizes the benefit in fixing/updating all of the modules and not just a select few. But I agree, having been released in 2012, bug issues with the Mustang module shouldn't be an issue, and it is probably long overdue for a texture buff. -
It would be nice to get an update on progress for the animated deck crew rework. And will the reworked/improved deck crew be made available as Ai packs that can be added to other carriers like the Tarawa and Kuznetsov?

This would be a really neat effect and +1, but personally I would like to see more realistic ground forces before anything else.

It might be a lost opportunity in the sense that we would like to see more done to fix this module and bring it out of early access, but in terms of what was stated as being worked on and included in the last patch, it was done. DCS: Yak-52 by Eagle Dynamics Improved air-flow calculations from the propeller that makes easier lifting nose gear during take-off Improved flight dynamics for more realistic inverted aerobatic maneuvers Encyclopedia entry is added There is obviously still a lot of work left to do on the Yak-52...

+1, but lets add sound effects to that as well, especially the sound of shells that explode close to your vehicle.

@WinterH, really enjoyed the video thanks! To the OP, I think you got some really good advice, and the video sums it up really well. Having both planes will give you better coverage of a wider range of mission types. But for anyone just starting out, the free Su-25T included in the download offers a great path to learning what DCS World has to offer.

please.. a future DCS WWII module with multicrew and turrets!!!
Callsign112 replied to hannibal's topic in Wish List
If you ask me, something like that would be a lot of fun. I can't image a better way to promote MP game play than a module that requires it. Why are so many really interesting mods not official DCS World kit? -
Well if your interested in the WWII theme, and you've already developed an interest for DCS then that's where/how it all starts. But I'm not sure I would call it hype in the context you seem to be using. Yeah sure things can, and do get hyped from time to time. I guess its just part of the consumer culture we live in. But don't confuse that with real interest in something. Here's what we know: It's a navy fighter/bomber from WWII. It saw a lot of action in the Pacific, and the expectation is that it will be modeled to fly in DCS World like all the other WWII prop planes. I'm am really hyped about the Corsair's arrival, and I don't need a marketing add to sell me on it. The other side of this is that while the Dev's have released bits of information here and there to feed the so called hype, most of the hype being generated is coming from the community itself, which is why I said don't confuse consumer interest with marketing hype. Will the Corsair live up to the Dev's previous two releases, only time will tell. But one thing I will say, I wasn't here for all the complaints about the CEII, but TBO I don't really understand all the negative hype that was created because the Christen Eagle is so much fun to fly.

Callsign112 replied to hannibal's topic in Wish List
Yeah as I found out on a couple of other platforms, multicrew seems to be more of a friend thing surprisingly enough. But if it worked like the Apache, and you were with 2 to 5 of your friends your good to go. But if your solo, then the Ai pilot/gunners kick in. I think modeling WWII bombers would be a great addition to DCS WWII. -

Callsign112 replied to hannibal's topic in Wish List
Couldn't it work similar to the Apache? lets say you have 6 stations that the player can jump in and out of with Ai pilots/gunners replacing the real player as he/she moves about. And you could even make it multi-crew so that if you had 2, or more real players in the same plane, you have less Ai replacements. -
Dynamic Campaign Discussion Thread
Callsign112 replied to winchesterdelta1's topic in DCS Core Wish List
You make a very good point, and adding to it I can think of other platforms that do have just as many issues with Ai but still have a dynamic campaign component to game play. I think the level of complexity ED is attempting to incorporate into its DC format may also be a factor, which makes it harder to compare what different game platforms have done. Obviously ED could build a DC feature using whatever the current state of its Ai is as an input to the quality of the DC. But if ED is also currently trying to update/improve the state of its Ai, the question is whether there is any benefit to waiting for the updated Ai to appear? I am sure there is still no shortage of work that needs to be done on the DC while they wait for improvements in Ai to be completed. But regardless of whether there is or there isn't, the number of really big ticket items being undertaken at the moment has got to be a factor in the overall rate of progress. -
Dynamic Campaign Discussion Thread
Callsign112 replied to winchesterdelta1's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Its hard to say, or even guess how work gets divided up at ED, but there are a few things that should be easier to speculate about. One of them being the amount of work that needs to be done. I don't know how many people they have working on the various projects, or even how many projects exactly, but I think it is safe to say there is only so much that can be done at one time. They currently have a lot of big ticket items on the go. Another issue might be the need to finish work on one project before work another dependent project can be finalized. We know they are working on Ai logic, and I wonder how important ironing out all the development issues with that are needed as inputs to the planned dynamic campaign feature? -
+1... now that would be dynamic!
-
Yeah that's what I was thinking. I don't think it is currently feasible @Flappie, but I think that is what the OP is requesting. But even if it was just a "tips" kneeboard with a 9-line reference card and mission specific data for a JTAC operator that gets assigned to a specific vehicle would probably go a long way in filling the OPs request.
-
I agree and think you are probably pretty close to explaining the reasons behind the wait. An awful lot of people would buy the Corsair on day one without a map, assets, or a carrier for sure. But a lot of things have changed since the Mustang first released, and I think ED and its third parties are going to coordinate the timing of this with all the fanfare of opening a brand new WWII theater. I expect this to be an even bigger event than the recent Apache release. I am sure most here are no stranger to the quality of work this Dev does, but in case anyone is wondering, have a look at the other modules already released. Both are beautifully modeled with an extreme attention given to detail. You can for example watch a spring in action as you work the tail wheel if your so inclined. Personally I think the whole WWII Pacific theater thing is going to be great, and am really looking forward to the Corsair.
-
Couldn't it work in a similar way though? If you were a JTAC in a mission where you are meant to use a specific vehicle, the kneeboard would be accessible while your in that vehicle?
-
Don't let the video thumbnail above fool you. The other very important players you don't see in the image are overhead in A10s and Apaches!
-
The linked video gives a good overview on how ground forces are organized and supported in the context of combined arms. If we would get more types of infantry with more capable Ai logic, we would be able to closely simulate battles in DCS using the same type of structure and organization.
-
+1 to both. It would be interesting to know more a about the size of the teams working on CA/Army/Navy/Units. What ever that number is though, I think it is clearly not enough.
-
Thanks. I really liked the sound of what they were doing/planning, but was just wondering how things were getting on.

Have you looked here? @Hunter Joker, have you ever tried the NO.20 Squadron WW2 Server?

Ships need formations and a follow command

plus we need more ships, especially of the WWII variety. But +1 for the suggestion!
