Since launch I was also unable to use the radios to talk to ATC, AWACS, Ground Crew. I had the communication Menu mapped to a button on my HOTAS (as i had it set up for my other modules). It just didn't work. Today I remapped my the button on my HOTAS to the ARC-182 Mic button and loe and behold... it worked. I'm now able to communicate with other aircraft, ATC etc while piloting the Tomcat (haven't tried as RIO yet). This has been doing my nut for ages so worth a try if anyone else is still struggling with this.

While that would be cool i find using the touch controllers clunky. I've been using VR (Euro Truck Sim) since 2014 and muscle memory takes over tbh. After a brief period of adjustment you should find that you can intuitively hit buttons on the Cougars or Keyboard without too much hassle. That's my experience anyway. I'd like to get some Cougars myself but haven't got around to it yet.

Thanks for the replies both. I do think i'm doing what i should be... but obviously can't be or the missiles would hit something rather than fall into the sea. I didn't know the left no. Was their altitude though. Will have to have another look. Thanks again for the pointers

Same here, the Hornet replays seemed to work without a problem. I watched tracks that were upto an hour long without incident. Since the Tomcat they're never what actually happened during the flight, even watching the same replay gives different results. It's a great feature to have, when it works

In the month since release i've put quite a lot into learning how to use the Tomcat. Today i did my first complete mission which i'm quite pleased about. I am however having difficulty with the TWS mode. Everything i've seen and read says that Jester will designate targets and assign a launch order visible on the TID. I leave Jester to this and can see the bogies on the display however the numbers aren't right i've seen 3 targets all show a number 2?? very baffling. I'm in TWS auto mode within range, and am able to fire the Phoenix if I switch to STT mode but multiple targets.... no chance. Can anyone give me any idea what i'm doing wrong at all?

Ahh great cheers for the info Nealius

Was it only a certain model of Tomcat that restricted AB use on Cat shots? I've heard this a lot recently but a cursory look at Youtube and you can find Tomcat cat shots using AB. The opening of Top Gun has one too If i remember rightly.

Interesting that certain conditions can break the replays. I've watched lots of Hornet and Eagle replays and not seen this weird behaviour until installing the Beta and the Tomcat. Is it something that will be fixed?
-
Very strange. Never had the issue before the Tomcat. Are you using the Stable or Beta version may i ask?

When watching replays (only the Tomcat) they don't play properly the don't seem to replay my actual flight. The plane will ditch into the sea, land either side of the carrier, i watched the replay of shooting down an F4, i lauched and nose dived straight away today, it stayed on speed but flew right over the carrier????? Very baffling I never had this issue with tbe Hornet or the Eagle. I was on the stable version before the Tomcat so maybe this is the issue?? Has anyone else noticed this and more importantly is there a fix or going to be a fix?
-
I was having the same issues, ditching into the sea, engaging AP and then going around in circles. Then i found your Video and after several attempts managed to nail it. Cheers for the quick tutorial.

Thanks for the tips. I'm still struggling but have improved. Like the Hornet practice makes perfect. Cheers all

Can anyone give me any tips for how to better trim the Tomcat please? I managed to get the hang on it with the Hornet but the Tomcat... i can not get it. I'm either nose up or nose down. Just can't seem to get it right. Anyone got any pearls of wisdom they can pass on please?

I was using the Thrustmaster ones they were great for the price, very compact too. I managed to find a pair of Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals so am now using them. They're very sturdy and precise too. If you're in the UK and interested OP my T Flight are on ebay atm. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F333113895964

I've had the same issue but sounds like this is the resolution. Cheers.

My system is a 4790k and a Strix 1080. The Tomcat runs beautifully in the CV1. Seems to take longer than any other module to load, maybe 50 secs from main menu to sat in the cockpit.... however once in the the drivers seat it runs great. I have to lean forward to read the dials (i've got limited vision anyway so that may be why) but the dials are clearly readable, and the Cat looks phenomenal.
-
Using a CV1 here and it works great. Very little noticeable differences in the frames when compared to the F18.

Forget that, just updated DCS to the beta version and it's installed!!!

I know most of you will be too busy honing your skills by now but as Cobra stated the Steam version will also release today do we know when? The Steam page has changed since this morning but still no sign of the Cat itself though.
-
Is it available for Steam users yet?

Completely forgot about one of the best Tomcat Documentaries. Speed and Angels. I don't think it's available to watch online anywhere but you can buy the Blu Ray for around £10. Well worth a watch

For those in the UK i got mine here https://www.tekshop247.com/product_info.php?products_id=1414149 £321 with free shipping. I did pay around £5 for next day. Ordered at around 10 to 5 in the evening it arrived the following morning

Great to have a release date. Will it be the same day for us Steam users too?
-
Thanks for the links, should tide me over until the Tomcat release. This is the documentary that first introduced me to the F-14, well aviation in General. I think I wore the tape out back in 1991 :)

That was it Shagrat, I reversed the brake axis and landed with the nose staying flat.... something else happened which I haven't seen before either though. I caught the 3 wire, when I came to a halt and retracted the tail hook to taxi the wire stayed connected to the hook. I can't get rid of it no matter what I do. Still at least my nose isn't pointing skyward any more. Thanks for all your help guys, now to wait for the deck crew so they can untangle my Hornet
