We should operate on the assumption that all pilots have taken the oath. To acknowledge here is simply making the oath explicit to yourself. Doesn't matter if others know it. Only matters if you buy into it yourself. The point is to fly and treat others with respect. Innocent until demonstrated stupid. Let's just file those in a big "don't be annoying" bin. :)

I'm afraid you'll need to elaborate your question.

Unfortunately, both sides of the point must be made. Yes, but I felt it would be interesting if enough folks responded. The result would indicate that either the arcade players should consider etiquette important and seek servers approrpriate for them. Or if no one cares, and the idea of multiplayer simulation is something we shouldn't cling so tightly to. Just curious. Personally, I like to sim and not play Afterburner. But I am interested in how others feel.

In addition to following all of the rules of the hosting server I will also take on the following oaths: I will never intentionally team kill. I will take off on runways and taxi on taxiways. I will always follow proper ground, takeoff, landing, and navigation procedures. I will speak or type with brevity. I will never abandon my wingman. I will learn my mission, briefing, objectives, and way-points, as much as possible prior to my first flight. I will operate as a team player even when flying alone. If I don't know, I will ask. I will respect all pilots who respect the oaths. Use the poll to take the oath anonymously. Use the thread to discuss how you feel about multiplayer etiquette.

Agreed. You don't know the thrill of adrenaline until you sneak into a TZ, keeping the search radars abeam, while you try to get close enough to trick them into firing some rounds or even a missile up into the sky so you can spoof their fire and then roll the Hog onto the now-revealed target area... The needle-nose jockeys haven't had that good a time since WWII. :P

This is an incredible book! I am 3/4 of the way through it now. Not only is it a great read, it is also good for learning tactics. They go into great detail about how they planned, how they flew, how they attacked, how they coordinate runs, etc. Really, excellent book! None of the other A10 books I have picked up compare to this. Most others are just picture books.

Same! I've scheduled a slot in my work calendar on Monday so I don't forget to order! What time on Monday will ordering begin? :-) -
I have landed at airbases that rearm but do not refuel. What is the controlling factor and how can I tell before landing if an airbase has fuel service? Or am I just doing something wrong "sometimes" so it seems like some bases have fuel service and some don't?

Is it possible to mod a config file or something to point audio to different outputs. I want ATC and AWACS on my headset and all other external sounds in my main speakers. Flight Simulator allows for this. Is it possible in Lomac? I saw another post about sound splitting, but it was from 2005 and mainly just about putting TS or Ventrilo into the headset. Any help appreciated, even if it's to say "not possible". Thx

While I completely agree, I'll settle for folks who simply fly correctly. Or go do taxi-way takeoffs, 20-foot tarmac flybys, and chatting about their cat's latest poop on their own arcade server. Or just go play Pacific Fighters.

I've been using one for years and it is great. I use it for driving sims, flying sims, etc. Everything. I purchased extra acrylic panels and buttons so I can easily swap out button layouts between games. I started making fancy backing sheets for each plane/sim but I game in the dark, with only a dim flashlight to light up the MFP and the dashboard panel I've made. So the backgrounds became useless. UNTIL, I discovered those pages that tell you how to use a refillable inkjet cartridge to print glow in the dark stuff. With that kit you can make some pretty nifty background and button label sheets that look like cockpit illumination. :D

They do update automatically if you fly right over the waypoint. But I never wait for that and cycle them manually anyway. Easier to stay on the flight plan that way (the A-10 I fly doesn't have the fancy route-following waypoint turn options that the Ka-50 has). Make sure you are in waypoint nav mode and not ILS nav mode.

Prob a stupid question, but worth a shot... Any chance for an ipad version? :D -
Great thread and advice so far. I'm a long-time A10 LO pilot, (been a fan of the plane since it's delivery, and simming in it since A10 Tank Killer long ago). I've been getting more serious about Lock On again since FC2 came out. So I'm interested in brushing up on my A10 skills. Flankertraining.com has the best SAM avoidance video featuring the A10. http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/supad.htm Basically it's all cat and mouse. Use the RWR to spot general location. Sometimes you WANT to get them to fire at you to reveal themselves, though they become easier to spot over time (not many things are arranged in columns as far as civi equipment). But if you go in with the idea of luring them into firing, then dodging missiles that you expect and know are coming, then you get the idea of how you need to fly. One run in, get them to reveal, dodge, turn out. Next run on the known target, lock, fire, expect missile, dodge, etc. If you find yourself fiddling with the "tools" (Maverick cam, target slewing, autopilot selection, alt/speed management, etc) then bug out and come in for another round. Every run is another chance for both of you to kill each other. You are the only one with the control to minimize the other's opportunity. Fire at range, don't allow yourself to slip in too close. And stay aware. If you start fiddling with a gun camera or something for too long, or take your eyes off the sky for one moment while on a run, you are dead. Another thing...the RWR and launch detection alarm go off AFTER the missile is airborne. Meaning when you are on a run in at low altitude then your chances go way up if you can SEE the missile launch and react to that. You should already have begun "faking" the inbound missile when you hear the alarm. That's where you need to be to become proficient at spoofing SAMS. To complete a run, basically you: 1. Head to intel-provided waypoint of target location. 2. On ingress, 10-15m out begin a search pattern. DO NOT GO STRAIGHT IN. 3. Use autopilot a lot. Follow route for waypoint nav, Alt-hold and Alt-hold/Path-Hold for managing "tools" like gun cams, etc. 4. Use the gun cam, the RWR, and of course your EYES to scan for targets. Look for columns. Beware around enemy airbases of course. 5. Ingress towards RWR or visual threat. Go slowly. YOU CONTROL THE PACE. 6. ID, Lock, Fire, egress. 7. Avoid off-mission SAMs as needed (don't go hunting for the sake of it). 8. Never fly over your target, even after a kill. 9. When you can do no more, RTB. Ie...don't try to use bombs on a Shilka or other AAA/SAM. Don't be a hero. RTB, refuel, rearm, and continue clearing out the bad guys. Hope that helps! I'm still learning myself. I appreciate the book reference above. Are there others? I have "The Great Book of Modern Warplanes" which I've had since I was a kid. It has great coverage of early A-10 variants. Any Janes books that would be useful? Or other recs? Thanks!

Good point. Then I'll be looking forward to the release of the laminated map from the other thread. :-)

Wow, what a lively thread! I saw the ref to 104th MP and wanted to stop by and say thanks for the great server! One of these days I need to get over to the 104th website and sign up. The 104th server is the most reliable server on the Yankee side of the pond (ps I love how we are still Yanks to everyone not on this side of the pond). Even with 20 pilots flying it is stable and always connects. One request: More ground operations mixed in with the A2A. Current mission Liberty has a few ground targets. But, as often happens, if too many folks fly A2A role on Red team, then Blue team can never progress because the ground targets will always be covered. The solution I think is to create more ground targets and spread them in clusters of objectives around the map. Then eg, Blue A2G forces can play strategy against Red A2A forces, and vice versa. As it is, everyone knows exactly which cluster of ground targets to cover because there is only a single cluster. Of course, being a LOMAC A10 pilot maybe that is all a little biased. But it sure is tough to slip in and hammer on those T72s when there are 5 F15s and 3 Su27s guarding them. :) And would it be possible to enable the map view? 104th is my weekly dose of LO. I log in nowhere else so it has become my LO world. Thanks again!

Same here Cloud and ambiance mods are very popular for other sims like Flight Sim, rFactor, Simbin, etc.

Do vehicles light up at night like buildings do? I have not noticed and was curious.

This is excellent work! And sorely needed! I would also buy a nice quality laminated version of each map!
