    Wings Of Prey

A few facts to remember when talking about WoP: 1) Gaijin studios was the development studio for IL-2 Birds Of Prey on the console. 2) Even though they used the foundational flight models from IL-2, it does not use the same engine. Therefor some of the physics did not translate over directly. They did not straight port this from console for PC. They worked out alot of stuff before it was ever released for PC. Not everything, but alot. 3) Up until within the past couple of weeks, they did not have a publisher. This was all being done on their own money because they wanted to put out a great looking WWII flight sim. The publisher has already stated on the WoP forum that they are not going to dictate content (great news!) 4) Mod tools, editor, dedicated server, camera views, are all in the works. 5) IL-2 has been 9 years worth of patches and community mods to make it what it is today. In the three months I have been playing WoP, there's been about a dozen patches. Give the game a little slack. It's still in development. If you are impatient and want a highly polished, everything there from the onset package - then continue to wait on SoW: BoB (god knows I am lol). If you have the patience and the curiosity to see how this game pans out, then pick it up and play. Just don't expect everything IL-2 has with awesome graphics. WoP isn't there yet. Me personally, I enjoyed the days when we played a game and watched the developers add content, features, and capabilities. It's what's kept me playing IL-2 and LockOn for all this time :D

    Wings Of Prey

The varying external views are still being implemented (thay've added a couple of camera features). Fly-by has not been implemented as of yet. I do not know about the difficulty settings in the demo.
  3. My statement was incorrect. I meant to say: As you approach the perimeter of the threat area - slow down! If the briefing says that Wypt three or marked areas are the threat zones, then slow down before you get there. Start scanning before you are in harm's way. Often you can scan the threat area with the range zoomed in from a distance and be out of range of MANPAD's and AAA. If you find them, slowly move forward until you are in range to smack them with a missile.
  4. Turn on your NV's and adjust your contrast and brightness on the Shkval before you ever take off. You can get it very clear, it just takes finding the sweet spots on the adjustments. To practice, make a simple night mission in the editor with some Urals and such (non shooting targets). To start off with, leave labels on. Learn what to look for when you know where they are at. Now, change the position of the targets, turn labels off, and go hunting. Also, when you are in the threat area, slow down!
  5. An IRC-based java applet would be the better choice. More tools available with IRC. In America's Army, we used the server log data to show who was killing who and current scores during a match. Those who logge dinto that IRC channel were able to see how the match was progressing. So, imagine a java applet window that showed, in real time, who just got shot down, who shot them, and by what means. I'll see if I can dig up the IRC scripts we used in AA2 and pass them along to one of the 3Sqn guys to pass along.
  6. Hmm, guess my game is different. I can hit OK in the ingame settings and it doesn't change my apsect ratio and I am running a weird one due to my tirplehead2go set up.
  7. The last thing you want to see against a cloud.....
  8. Bad Company never had prone. Everyone needs to remember that BFBC2 IS a console game ported directly to PC. Only changes were to the GUI and netcode. The gameitself is the same on PC as it is on PS3 and XBox. That's why it feels x-boxy as Slayer put it. I played it on a buddies PC and I'm not gonna get it. I didn't get BF2 becuase EA had what was left of DICE dumb down too much of the game due to forum whiners who said "newcomers to BF42 have too much to learn." In comparison to BF42 and pre v1.2 BF:V, everything was dumbed down in BF2. That's why Frank Delise and several others left before BF2 was even in Alpha stage. BC2 is no different. The game itself has almost no learning curve. Get in, grab a gun, and start killing. It's a stat-centric frag game. That's not a bad thing though, the market needs those. I just wish one of these FPS companies would have the balls to put the teamwork requirements back into an FPS. The older folks will remember early BF42, Tribes 1 & 2, and other games from that era. There were roles that needed to be filled where those filling those roles may not see that much action or die more than they kill. Without those roles though, they match would be lost. Thing is, people didn't mind filling those roles. It was, afterall, teamwork.
  9. Here is a screenshot of my settings (notice it's set to 1 monitor and full screen is unchecked): This is reflected in the options.lua file. Look in ....\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\data\scripts\options.lua You will need to open this in Notepadd ++ or equivalient to edit it directly. ["graphics"] = { ["multiMonitorSetup"] = "1camera", ["color"] = "32", ["heatBlr"] = 1, ["scenes"] = "high", ["water"] = 2, ["fullScreen"] = false, ["visibRange"] = "High", ["aspect"] = 5.333333492, ["textures"] = 2, ["shadows"] = 3, ["display_mode"] = { ["avi"] = { ["bpp"] = 32, ["resolution"] = "640x480", ["full_screen"] = false, ["aspect"] = 4.000000119, ["height"] = 480, ["width"] = 640, }, -- end of ["avi"] }, -- end of ["display_mode"] ["effects"] = 3, ["lights"] = 2, ["haze"] = 1, ["terrPrld"] = "20", ["height"] = 720, ["resolution"] = "3072x768", ["civTraffic"] = 0, ["width"] = 3840, }, -- end of ["graphics"] Here's a good source for you: http://www.qapla.org/wallpaper/matrix.html I had found a table that gave the full number (ie 4.000000119) for aspect ratios once, but I'll be damned if I can find it again.
  10. Get the TackIR - hands down....get it :D
  11. Here's a vid of my view, remember, I have to run a 3840x720 resolution since my 1600x900 monitor native is not supported by the TH2G. 1680X1050 users should have a bit more on the vertical side.
  12. I use the X-Keys and it's easy to use. The only downside is the installation of a diode on each switch. So, order you a batch of 1N4148 or 1N914 diodes ;)
  13. @SeaFoam, you enter it directly ingame. Zangler's method may help you out as well.
  14. NO TIR support for BFBC2
  15. I'll post my configs when I get home. You're going to have to put in an unusual looking aspect ratio, but it will work wonders. I'll post a list later on. To give you an idea, my aspect ration is 5.33333(and some numbers at the end I can't remember) to run at 3840X720. The native on my three 20" monitors is not supported by the TH2G. You could try 4.000000119 and see how that looks (that number I DO remember lol)
  16. 1> what are systen requirments Intel Processor - Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz AMD Processor - Phenom 9100e Quad-Core Nvidia Graphics Card - Geforce GTX 260 ATI Graphics Card - Radeon HD 5850 RAM Memory - 2 GB Hard Disk Space - 10 GB Direct X - 9 2> Release date Feb 25, 2010 3>I play MW2,byt can't stand the hacks. How is this going to measure up to being hacked. There's already hacks for this game. Online game = hacks. Just gonna happen. 4> Will it have dedicated servers. Sort of: http://kotaku.com/5449928/dice-says-it-wont-profit-off-rented-servers-for-bfbc2 Personally, I don't think I'll be getting it. Spent way too many years in competition in BF42, BF:V, DC, AA2, Tribes2, etc Just kinda "done" on the whole shoebox shooter scene.
  17. For TIR4 software..... Copy the Basic Flight profile. Now edit the copy. Make sure you have the Track Clip selected and the appropriate axis's selected. Select Tracking and then Settings. Push the light filtering down to about 80-90. I can use TIR5 or TIR4 softwar for DCS. I generally use TIR4 for DCS. I never have any skips or jumps. This is mainly due to the fact I haven't set up TIR5 to be smooth in DCS. Works fine in WoP and ArmA2 tho lol. Also, in LockOn, if you have "Zoom" bound to an axis, it will cancel out the TIR zoom axis.
  18. Side Note: I was the engineering technician on the voice warning/comm interface box for the F-15I. One of the engieers and I spent a coupel fo weeks trying to figure out why it was making Betty combine "Engine Burn through" and "Bingo Fuel" She was saying "Bing-en Burn Through" and it was driving us the wall. Bob made one adjustment to the code that made her say evertyhing at once. Made her sound like the female Tasmnanian Devil from Bugs Bunny. Got a good laugh out of that one. The solution was a semi-colon in the wrong place. Two weeks of engineering troubleshooting over a semi-colon lol! There's also some unused messages in the F-15 and F-18 boxes. One of them is "Nice Landing Handsome!" That one had to come out due to females starting to fly the aircraft as well.
  19. The pipper is the round circle with the center dot on your HUD (think of it as a reticule). Your weapones panel shows the ordance you have. Each button is illuminated for the rounds on the pylon and each is labeled accordinaly. When a peice of ordnance is deployed, you'll notice the illumated square will go from green to red. Hope this helps :)
  20. The F-22 project was cancelled last summer. It's not going to own anything except shelf space in the archives. The Flanker is trully a badass aircraft. Having worked in military intel and having to know the capabilities of our own aircraft and the opposition aircraft, I can tell you that the Eagle really IS a more powerful aircraft when it comes to overall air superiority. While there are some close in performance gains in the Flanker, the goal is to never get that close. That's why the F-15 has the electronics suite that it does. F-15 pilots should only be close enough to see the explosion as the missile hits the opposing aircraft. F-15's cost to damned much to risk in a close in battle. Maximize the ability to obtain the kill from a standoff distance. Heroism was left behing in lieu of increasing the chance of winning from a distance. If they ever put every detail of the F-15C's capabilities into the game, then there'd really be no point to fly another aircraft unless more modern versions of the Flanker and MiG were included. Be glad they didn't model in the electronic capabilities of the F-15E and limited the available capabilities of the F-15C. Also remember this: Just becuase an aircraft has an advantage doesn't mean it's going to win the fight. The pilots of the Flankers and MiG know the capabilities of the opposing aircraft and also have been trained how to combat them. Going head on into a fight for a close in pass and then gun fighting or using short range missiles are generally not at the top of the list.
  21. SF is not the nightmare it used to be. Now, if you're problem is not being to install it on several computers due to limited activations, then you do have reason not to like Starforce. With most games going the route of being digital downloads, get used to DRM protection as it's going to be the only way to reduce piracy. A key code algorhythm is too easily to figure out these days and is insufficient.
  22. Are you using the TripleHead2Go or SofTH?
  23. The allure of the dogfight glory is definitely a high point in Lock-On. I really enjoy the coordination of ground pounding. With LO 2.0, it's gonna be nice flying CAS while other aircraft fly cover. Should bring an entirely new element to the game.
  24. Every copy pirated is income lost. In a niche this small, those small numbers make a huge impact. Face it folks - DRM is not going away. MW2 was widely pirated. Dragon Age was well pirated. Both games sold very well on the consoles, but PC sales could have been better had it not been for the fact you could download them for illegally AND play online. Borderlands is another game that falls into that category. The upside on my part is that I had no interest in any of them. I also have no problem with development studios wanting to protect their investment by using DRM. Anyone who reformates so much as to use all of their activations in a short period of time needs to recheck their computing habits lol!
  25. White lithium grease here. As far as the slide pot, I use DeOxit 5. But it's still an analog voltage reference converted via a D-A. There's a threshold between "steps". IMHO, they should have gone for a lower value slide pot and adjusted the software paramaters accordingly.
