  1. Some of you are like spoiled children lol "I want all my toys and I want them right now!!!" There is alot of testing that goes into a patch like this. Also, did you ever consider they may be listening to feedback on FC2 and looking to see if they need to make a hotfix patch for any possible netcode issues? Any fix at all could alter the performance of the compatibility patch for Blackshark. They WILL release it. You WILL be able to fly Blackshark with FC2 players. No statement was ever made stating that the compatibility patch would be ready the same moment that FC2 was released, just that it WILL be released.
  2. I have a regular X52, but have never had reason to open it up so I am kinda shooting blind here. If you have access to a simple microscope (even the one liek comes in a kid's biology kit) or a really good magnifying glass, then check for cracked solder joints on the circuit board. There may be a single pin on a device that is not making contact. Also, some fluid of some type could have gotten into the housing. Clean the board off using 91% Isopropyl Aclohol. I'm an electronics tech and those two are the first things I'd look at on an electro-mechanical piece of equipment. If you have a multimeter handy, check any diodes. Littel surface mount 1N4148's have a tendancy to give up the ghost without warning.

  4. TrackIR Easiest method - You can disable the axis's you don't desire in the TrackIR software and save those settings as a profile. Before you launch DCS, load that profile and you're good to go (I have a profile for each game I play lol) Activations As far as activations, you can deactivate a product if you need to reinstall. This keeps you from have to use up another activation. You can also backup your activation from the registry. Flaming Cliffs 2.0 As far as pay to upgrade, FC2 is not a patch. It's an entirely new addon. 2003 - Lock On: Modern Air Combat $30 (patches) 2005 - Flaming Cliffs $15 (patches) 2010 - Flaming Cliffs 2.0 $30 For those who bought LOMAC at the release, that's pretty much a decade of enjoyment for $75. Also, remember that ED can't continue to pay developers unless there's cash coming in ;) To put in contrast - Pay to Play MMORPG players will spend that for about 1 year of play. Modern Warfare 2 was $50. At best, it will see a 3 year run before it falls off into near oblivion. Targeting in the KA-50 First, make sure your laser is turn on. The laser does not have infinite range. I don't have the manual here at work, but there is a maximum effective range for targeting. Align your camera to the target and adjust your frame size on the Shkval camera to fit your target. Hit the lock button (Enter by default if I remember correctly) and you should get a TA on the Shkval. That means you are locked. Make sure you have the right weapon selected too.The manual also has the max effective range for guns and Vhikr rockets. Hope this helps :)
  5. Now that warmer weather is here, I've pulled the bikes out of the garage. I'm not a serious biker. Primarily, I just ride it back and forth to work. A back injury years ago keeps me from being able to sustain those long road trips. Not only that, but I prefer the street cruiser body style over the road cruiser. The unfortunate part is that the street cruiser design has all but disappeared. So, a couple of years ago, I found a great deal on a 1986 Honda Magna VF700C. Great bike. When I get another, it will be the VF1100 variant of this great series. I'm still working on this one's restoration, but here's some of what I've done so far.... Based upon the location of dents and damage and the lack of road rash anywhere, the bike looked like it toppled off of a lift. Had to replace the guage cluster, rebuild the headlight, repair the horn assembly, and a few other minor mechanical and cosmetic repairs. Still not done yet. I am still scrounging for a fuel tank in decent shape (even if I have to coat the interior) and a rear fender.   6. I'm gonna have to side for those who do not approve it being used in public servers then Yoda. If that set up in your sig is your setup, then you have a helluvan advantage over someone who cannot afford to have four monitors on their desk. Your situational awareness is levels above those who can't afford a set up like that. In this case, referencing an earlier post in this thread - that's exactly like buying an advantage. Without the money, people can't have that advantage. I also disapprove of strike aircraft (A-10 and SU-25) having access to the displayable datalink as well. They don't have that capability in reality. LEAVU makes it possible for those with extra monitors to diplay the datalink screens when flying aircraft ath don't have them. I'm not going to get into the debate over the whole autosnap radar-hold thing. I don't have an AN/APG-63 tech manual sitting in front me lol. I concede that I will fly on servers that don't allow it. Nice work and very, very cool - but unleveling the playing field and giving abilities to aircraft that shouldn't have them are the big issues imho ;)

No accusations of it being an aimbot ;) Just the advantage it gives to those who have the ability to use it at it's fullest potential vs those who are flying stock FC2 or can't afford the extra hardware. I'm all for the added capability of datalink and the ability to extract it to another monitor.   9. Actually, the catapult shouldn't be that difficult unless one actually wants to model in the launch bar, the shuttle, and have them actually interconnect. The Nimitz addon modeled into OFP (and ported over to ArmA1) had a working catapult. There was a trigger placed at the location of shuttle. The aircraft had to be within the limits of the trigger in order for the catapult to function. Once the pilot selected the catapult option in the player menu, script would perform a countdown and then accelerate the aircraft from a dead stop to a predefined speed. It worked great in OFP, but had some bugs in ArmA. I eliminated many of the bugs in the script in ArmA, but could never get rid of the invisible hole in the deck lol! The Crimean Air Wars mod for FC 1.12 has a Nimitz class carrier in it, but I can't remember how it's catapult system worked.

  11. Nicely done :) Guess my first suggestion would be to put the limit of active MFD screens to 1. Kinda bugs me that a player can have one screen of info on the MFD in the game, one on another monitor, and an additional one on another monitor for a total of three data screens simultaneously. While that sounds like some kick ass abilities for those who have the hardware to support it, it's a definitive upperhand over those who can't afford multiple monitors or are not using the addon.
  12. GG, ArmA2's ability to control mods is rudemntary at best. To specify specific mods take's some server side scripting that's not 100^ effective. Verifying signatures being turned on will not allow anyone to join if they have a signature key of a mod isntalled that the server doesn't have (that means the server has to have a cubic ton of keys installed lol). I've always thought it best to not concentrate on "allowed mods" but rather "Disallowed" mods. There's far fewer mods server owners would disallow than those they don't mind lol Yoda, I do have one question on the target tracking in the datalink. I ask just because I haven't dived into LEAVU that deeply. Are datalinked targets tracked based on input of other radars or are they tracked in real time position? I ask because, when I was in the military, our datalink would track the position, heading, speed, and altitude of targets as long as they were within range of a radar hooked up to the datalink. If they went off of radar, then the system would display the contact's last known position only. If LEAVU is using the X,Y,Z from the contacts position from the server instead of other radars or will track contacts even if they are not on radar, then that would be a horrid situation. Just asking as I am curious as to how you have it set up :)
  13. Might have very well have been a lag spike between you and the server. I've had similar happen in DCS. Flying one second, the next I'm exploding. Wingmen told me there was a SAM launch, they got the warning tones and all, but I didn't. Just at that precise moment, some hop between the server and I decided it wanted to spike.
  14. I started LockOn on a 19" CRT at 1024X768, moved to a 22" LCD at 1680X1050, and now run 3 monitors at 3840x768. The larger monitors or triple monitor set up did not improve my gameplay at all. It takes the same things and makes them larger. In the case of the triple monitors, I actually LOST vertical view distance until FC 2.0. Now, lemme have a 26" LCD in the center, and extracted MFD views on 17" monitors on each side - then that's a definitive hardware advantage. The trick is that it takes software to extrapolate that data to the side screens. In the end, the hardware would not be of much advatage unless there was software giving it additional data. As far as realism vs game - I'm all for the realism myself. In several cases LEAVU is not always "more realistic" than the vanilla game either. Case in point, here is a screenshot from a LEAVU sample vid: The model of the F-15 ingame has only a single MFD. In this screenshot, the user is able to extrapolate TWO of the MFD's functions and view them simulataneously. Not possible in reality and, therefore, makes this a compeltely unrealistic function of LEAVU and, imho, accounts as an exploit by being able to view more than one function at a time. I say again, I really like the features of LEAVU (bolded so not ignored), but there are things it makes possible (this being one fo them) that should be restricted. This is not realistic and should not be touted as "more realistic than the vanilla game" because while the datalink may be realistic, being able to view that much information at once in an aircraft that has only one MFD is not realistic ;)

  16. LOFC2 took longer so they could make sure it was right. I would expect no less in quality assurance for the DCS compatibility patch. Changing one line of code can creat 100 other bugs. I'd rather wait and have it without those other bugs :D Take your time Matt :)
  17. GG, I'm not nearly as passionate about this others. I'm all for people using mods. Mods make the game grow. Bringing more realism to the game is a good thing. Datalink has bene a staple of the US Military for a very long time. I lived in the middle of it when I was in. NTDS, JOTS, ets Having it limited to only AWACS-equipped missions for the US planes is a serious deficiency. In sensor situational awareness, the Russian aircraft have a far greater advantage. LEAVU cna balance this out for the US fighters. My concerns with LEAVU are simple: 1) Gameplay balance especially when it comes to new players who have no clue about LEAVU. I'm not too concerned with experienced players who make a choice not to run a mod. Keeping new players in mind will only help the community grow. I've talked three people into getting LockOn FC2 who had never heard of it before. Need to work with them and cultivate their skills rather than slam their pp in the ground as soon as they get to altitude lol! Disallowing a certain mods server side to keep the playing field level is a good solution for this. The new players can experiment with mods as they learn about them. 2) The potential security holes in this mod. I'm not in the constant debate and haven't kept up with LEAVU for a while, so I haven't a clue as to whether some of these potential holes have been closed off. I'd hate to see all of Yoda's hard work become the foundation for a game ruining cheat if it fell into the hands of a programmer who just wanted to be an asshat. My idea is for ED to take a very good look at LEAVU and implement the parts of it they feel add to the realism of the game, but can keep things in balance. That way, everyone will be on the same page :)
  18. Grimes, I'll answer ya :) This reminds me of the skypoint debate in Tribes 2. Anyone who played that game competatively should remember that fight. The game came stock with the ability to make waypoints. Someone developed a script where you could add elevation to them too. At which point, you could make a waypoint template for each map. What was the use? Simple, those in heavy aromor class could stand hundreds of meters away and bombard your base with the most powerful weapon in the game with pinpoint accuracy. Killing poeple before they could even get out of the base. New players to the game had no clue as to what was going on. They figured cheats were being used. generally, they unistalled since most gamers prefer not to play with cheaters. Those who played "fairly" did not use them, but were still greatly frustrated by the effect it was having on the game. Once skypoints started being used, the game stopped growing in numbers. It was a contributor to the decrease in player base. The majority of people who are going to play Lock On: FC2 for the first time will have no clue about any type of addons. If they have gained a fundamental understanding of the avionics and targeting systems via training and campaigns, then they're going to immediately think "cheating" when it's obvious people are able to track them regardless of what that person is suppoed to be able to see in the vanilla game. My suggestion - develop the addons. Community addons can do alot for a game. Addons that give an advantage over the vanilla install though are a different matter. Server running that mod should state the mod's name in the server title. (ie 651st LOFC2 Server - LEAVU MOD). New players can look up that mod and then decide if they want to play with it or not. Another option is for ED to have a way for the player to see what mods are beuing run on a server (something I desperately wish ArmA2 had). Such mods are going to divide the community though and there's not much anyone can do about that. The only thing that could be done to prevent a split is for ED to incorporate such mods into the game so everyone has that capability. In short, LEAVU is a helluva mod and looks interesting as hell. It IS going to cause an impabalance with those who don't use it or have no clue it exists. Those who use the mod, in the spirit of keeping the game balanced, should make it a point to let the community know what servers run it so those using it can go there. Also players could append an "LU" to their ingame name to let others know they are using it. This will keep the fighting reduced, but will never get rid of it totally. I personally will nto use LEAVU or play on servers that allow it until the security gaps are closed. Just too many things to exploit there. Sometimes the "ultimate mod" in the wrong hands can be altered to become the "ultimate cheat" Seen it happen in a few games. Security should be more paramount than seeing how far one can push it ;)

  20. Do some reading into the Ekpyrotic Universe theory. Interesting concept that our universe is like a membrane, or a "brane" to be more extact. In this theory, there's not a "nothing" but membranes floating in a different dimension. If that's the case, then there can be an infinite number of universes. Our big bang, in this case, would have been the collision between two of these membranes. The resultant energy of the collision forms matter (planets, stars, galaxies, etc). Also, this could be the destruction of out universe as we know if another collision occured. One thing they did figure out was that space is not spherical. It's linear. Triangulation of fired lasers into space was used to determine this. So, that kinds pops the balloon theory.
