Ebay is your friend. Ive been selling all kinds of junk to fund my upgrade. Its not the stick and throttle that wil give it away to my missus. Its the gigantic shit eating grin that i wont be to hide when i open the box. Still, its Xmas. :santa: Nearly.

Sorry to rewind a little but I just caught this thread. Carrier? With no arrestor? How fast did you sink? :pirate:

My Cougar knows its time is up. Every time i unplug the damn thing i have to wipe the firmware when i plug it back in. Its like when you are breaking up with someone and they just get more annoying towards the end. As if thats going to make you come back. Sorry Dear Cougar We had some great times together. You weren't my first. But you taught me things that my Saitek Evo never dreamed of. I became a right handed flyer for you. But there is another. She has more buttons, And a chinese hat. Her throttle splits, Her baseplate is flat. Goodbye ps. And you can take your centre slop as well, its taking up room

That would be the recoil then. You will get that on a gatling gun the size of a volkswagon under your bum :smilewink:

If i hadn’t already pre-ordered, the A-10 beta would have me ordering anyway. I’ve mapped China hats & boat switches to various Cougar shifted button states, but, by god it will all be easier with the proper buttons there. I couldn’t give a toss whether its designed for an A-10 and i end up getting DCS: Whatever, next, or BOB when that ever shows. Has there EVER been a time when you have thought, "geez, my HOTAS has TOO MANY axis and switches"? Nope. Thought not. Roll on next week.

Smear some vaseline over your monitor then and you can stay with fuzzy-vision whilst we move on to more accurate bombing runs :)

Fantastic news. Now for some "night hog" hunting.
-
Yes, its WIP guys. I don't think we are going to be doing any tank hunting with a 0.0000000001 megapixel camera at night. I don't expect to be able to target a tank commanders glowing cigarette tip at 9mn but being able to differentiate a tank from a hillside at 4mn.........

Hopefully the whole JTAC component will be in the GUI manual or a yet to be seen flight manual chapter as that needs some proper explanation having seen Wags recent vids and thought "i want some of that!" There is a big hole in the "communications" chapter around page 634 that looks likely for filling ;) Currently this is it... "Once you selected the desired JTAC unit, Check -in with it and follow the on-screen directions." Obviouslty the manual is WIP, so i'm good to wait.

CCD, (standard camera), has very high resolution. However as soon as you switch to IR, either BHOT or WHOT, the focus / resolution drops massively making them pretty useless for target aquisition. Having read many A-10 RL accounts i dont recall pilots berating the 'fuzzy-vision' IR camera, in fact they were in awe of its capabilities in ODS and useed it, (IR mav not TGP), to hunt at night in the older A-10A so i am hoping this is a WIP issue. The very fact that the focus and gain OSB buttons don't do anything ATM points to this.

You know when it's time to take a break from DCS A10-C when..

When you get annoyed that Airfix dont do an A-10c model -
Aha! I’m not expecting everything to work as its beta, etc. but i need to get "my head in the zone" as far as task saturation goes. I can fly, navigate and drop ordnance, (sometimes even on bad guys). I now need to practice accurate target acquisition based on JTAC references. I’ve seen Wags video and it gave me Goosebumps! He made it seem so calm and relaxed, like he was knitting at the same time. Practice!

Impatient taxi-ing shreds nosewheel tyres. Every time. Man i need some tractor tyres! Hell, i can take off on rims, just dont have coffee in your lap!

No radar or dogfight, so how hard can it be?
coolts replied to PlainSight's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Hell yeah, i can feel my "playstation thumb" coming back with all the TMS/DMS twiddling.:joystick: The avionics have topped Falcon which was itself top dog IMO. The interrelations between TAD & TGP are very deep and thats before we get working datalink, etc. (it may work now but my brain is way behind) -
I take it this is for a later beta release as i cant find it, so i'm either; looking for somethingf that isn't there, (WIP) looking in the wrong place (story of my life) I was reading a post where someone created a JTAC mission though, i'm sure. Unless ive been "sleep ED forum reading" . God that would be sad.

FFS, i look at that bloody switch panel every time i startup or do a FENCE check. Sigh. I'm a "night hog" now! cheers guys
-
As seen on various screenshots. I cant find it in the manual. I've dug through the UFC menus. I surrender. where is it?
-
Cheers for that (and SFJackBauer). A good vid with a clear and concise voiceover is worth a lot and to some of us, (me included). Helps to learn procedures better than a manual :book::doh::thumbup: rep inbound

I'm not too fussed to be honest. I am a happy camper right now i have SOMETHING to fly. The systems are almost there and there is a boat load of depth there. We are finding which systems, mavs, pgms, for instance, which are WIP and we can work around them. there are still months of enjoyment before i even start on the campaign missions and with regular beta updates promised we will be having a mini xmas every time one of those comes out. “WAYEY, voice overs are in”, and “W00T, Mavericks work”. I can wait, and with the TM Hotas coming next week, ED can take as long as they want to polish this gem as far as I am concerned. Hopefully with the funds generated from us beta testers, they are under slightly less pressure to release and will do the right thing. They did it with BS. “When it’s done” is absolutely the right way to go in this industry.

DCS:A-10 start up and other procedures mirror real life
coolts replied to coolts's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Heh, says HE with an A-10 sig :megalol: Yeah, the "Inn on the green" is a great pub on gloucester road. Its got about 20 guest ales so you can work your way down the pub from the ciders to the stouts to the bitters to the...........kebab shop then taxi rank if you can still walk. EJECT!, (gahh. doing it again) then you get in the house late and "bithin' betty"...........[CUT] -
So there I was getting the hang of the systems and weapons. You know, getting my china hats and boats in a mess, SPI here and SOI there. Wandering Mavericks and hung stores. Basically a flying rant with wings. I thought, “I need to get something off pat”,” just one thing that I can definitely do right. So I thought I will practice start up. That’s a linear procedure and therefore easy to learn. I’ve never done a manual start before. Not in falcon or BS. I always thought “why bother?” . This time though I thought that my appreciation of the avionics and engine systems will be massively increased if I learn how to start them and I will begin to better appreciate all their intricate interdependencies. Now, in the evening after dinner when I fire up the PC and coax the TrackIR into life, all I want to do is KILL. And EXPLODE THINGS. Therefore I jump into a runway start, get my HOTAS switches sorted and off I go to slightly damage some enemy vehicles. So I thought, I will practice the start up in the mornings. I am dozy, not full of the after effects of the workings days angst. It’s the perfect time to practice the more sedate side of simming. If I do it every morning before work, I will have it off pat in a week. After downloading a few checklists and so on, I gave it a go and was well chuffed. It wasn’t at all as baffling as I had hoped. As long as you have a vague idea which panel to look at the labels aren’t in Russian this time, (thank god). It worked. Later though I had a strange thought…….. I am starting up my A-10 whilst eating breakfast. The start of the day. Now that’s a weird parallel. Should I practice a ‘shutdown’ before I go to bed? A ‘refuelling' at lunchtime. ‘Configure my stores’ before going to the toilet? My god I am now starting to think in SIM-GLISH. I need :helpsmilie:.

TM Warthog HOTAS Button Overview
coolts replied to Nickhawk's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thats brilliant! I wonder what the CMS push switch TM have made will be used for, if anything? -
Not sure if it's a bug or i am changing the wrong setting here, but when i go into the second STAT page and change the slew rate to, say 1 or 0.5, it doesn't seem to change the TGP cursor slew speed at all. I can change the Maverick slew speed with the UFC and MFCD but not the TGP one. Makes targetting difficult when its all over the place. The STAT page shows the changed value but the actual cursor speed remains. I have it set to the RDR Cursor / Enable axis on my Cougar throttle if that makes any difference.

I loved the F4 dynamic campaign a and, no, I’m not rose tinted about it. I’ve spent enough time deleting suicide missions from the ATO and shouting at the AI when it refused to move to forward airbases to have any illusions about the campaign AI. It was very good for its time. I love the story aspect of a dynamic campaign, your imagination takes over, "if we can just retake Seoul, the eastern front will collapse". Even though none of that was actually happening, your mind did the rest. Single missions though, when done properly with branching possibilities depending on your decisions, properly triggered enemy actions, etc. can really pull you in. After all, as viper pointed out, real A-10 pilots wouldn’t be assigning FRAG orders, etc. thats done at different level IRL, and if Falcon hadn’t done it……… Anyways, I love falcon for the avionics and having bought the Cougar MFD’s, being able to use them properly in Falcon was amazing. I am a born button twiddler and switch flipper so I love complex weapons systems and procedures. Now though, time will tell. I am astounded by A-10c. It’s still a beta and I can’t even fire a maverick but it is simply leagues ahead of any other fixed wing flight model. The avionics are degree level and have raised the bar above Falcon. Finally. However…. The ghost of Falcon will linger until; · ED gives us a dynamic campaign · ED do a Fast Jet sim If what ED have done in the past tells us anything, then they won’t do a DC until they are happy they can do it properly, and to be honest, I wouldn’t want them to. A crowd pleaser would backfire if not handled right. I personally don’t mind waiting and can see the pro’s and cons of both dynamic and scripted missions, etc. so am not in either camp. I would ideally want both but I am aware of the difficulties of strategic to tactical AI planning. I play Total War and Civ games but even their AI constantly gets slated. It is a very difficult thing to get right. There is also the question of focus. With DCS, ED set out to give us faithful and functional replications of a single aircraft with each module. They already have 'The Fighter Collection Simulation Engine' (TFCSE), which lends itself to tactical battlefield operation, not strategic level ATM, (and AFAIK). They also are creating modules based on aircraft that they have in depth systems data access to from their military work. This is a very shrewd financial model to follow as it means you are sharing assets and working very efficiently, (kind of a reverse duke nukem;). Now unless you are aware of any major air forces worldwide who are in the market for a F-16 trainer system that ED would do AND that would negotiate with ED for the leisure software rights to publish………. As for a fast jet sim as the next DCS, bloody hell, I haven’t even got to the point of doing a mission in A-10 yet. I am a happy customer right now and am loving the whole beta thing. Being part of something like this as it evolves. Study sims live again and they bloody well rock!

I will have the proper manual in my daily workbag when; It's finished It's Printed by TFC It's turns up in a reassuringly heavy jiffy bag I hate reading PDF's, alt-tab my arse :book::mad::book:
