  1. Me too. Its like coming into a bar and hearing the last bit of your favourite tune playing and you think "cool, worth the walk", then the jukebox cuts out, the bar closes and you realise that you really did leave the house wearing only a hat. ..oops, wrong forum ;) anyway, CG scared the troll away so I guess we had better start talking about the beta again. ..... so, when's the nextSLAP
  2. Well, when someone says I do something “blindly” I don’t take that lying down. To say those of us who have pre-bought the Beta are “blind” then you need to back that kind of talk up. We have bought because we have “seen” the potential of the new DCS and have “experienced” the quality of the past ED products. That is faith, yes, but not “blind” faith as it has evidence and experience to back it up. That IMO is “justified” faith. Whole different matter. As for all the,”it’s too expensive” and “my computers too slow”, those arguments are completely pointless as the former are driven by the worldwide markets which ED don’t control and the latter are a by-product of your working conditions which again, ED don’t control, (unless you are an ED employee ;)) So you can have a go about there not being a demo, (which has already been answered), but please leave others “faith”, the pro’s and con’s of worldwide capitalism and your own personal financial situation out of it. Cheers Stevie Wonder
  3. Doubt its the WH as its fine in Windows. WIP issue
  4. The space shuttle cockpit looks amazing. I wonder if it can handle high altitude JDAM delivery? You would have a significant standoff range advantage as well as being out of all SAM engagement envelopes
  5. It sure does.
  6. Well, when I pull onto the target I am always a little to one side to the other when entering the dive. I don’t have time to roll and pull /push to move the pipper to correct the horizontal error, so the rudder helps to make very small corrections, very quickly. I am not talking about spraying rounds around like a garden sprinkler. It does decrease accuracy, no doubt, but against soft to medium armoured targets it helps. T-80's are another matter however as very tight groupings are the only way with them apparently, (although I’ve never got one yet with the gun). Since IL-2, the “don’t use the rudder” posts have been the same. Whatever floats your boat. I bought the pedals to use, and for very small gun run corrections they work for me.
  7. You have to watch out for those holographic aircraft carriers!
  8. Wow. And again...WOW. These should be in the ED manual mate. Like they were in.....that 'other' games manual :smilewink: I saw that you and a few other guys were working up charts etc, a few weeks ago. Can you get BWAZE to link to them in the "user submitted docs" section of his sticky thread as they should be readily accessible from the front page IMO.
  9. I am trying to wean myself off “easy communications” and have figured the radio settings to communicate with JTAC. On the “instant action” missions in the ME, my co-pilot has the settings; BORT# ‘11’ and COMM (ticked) ‘251’ (my plane is down as BORT 10 and 251) Now I assume the tick means comms are possible and the 251 is the UHF frequency on the AN/ARC-164 . What does BORT mean and which other settings on the radios do I need to enable wingman comms? (my wingie is silent). shouLd the reciever be set to "BOTH" OR "MAIN"? **EDIT** i think "BORT" means "Tail #" as i am "610" and my wingie is "611" Are Tower comms possible yet and if so, how do we get those frequencies? I appreciate that the comms systems is still WIP but would like to know which bits are working and which bits are just me being thick ;)
  10. You are in for a very very pleasant surprise.
  11. Worrying about procedure whilst diving towards heavily armed enemies at -30 degrees would seem a little silly. If it works, puts rounds on target and keeps you out of danger, then do it. I use the rudder to make small adjustments after I roll in. As long as you engage the PAC (1st stage trigger) after the rudder, it wont fight it. If i get home and the base commander chews me up for using rudder against proper procedure i will show him the new T-80's being painted on the side of my cockpit and the lack of bulletholes in the fuselage. That should shut the old guy up!
  12. Should be mapped by defailt mate but it wont do nowt is you have your CMS on 'Auto'
  13. Go on! Cheers Dan. Saved me fannying around. Now i can drop LGB's on a gnats pube from 15k, I am going to revisit these quick missions and this time deal out some serious precision pain! Parachute dumb bombs my arse! They are for runways!
  14. My "Mixed kebab starter, lamb Vindaloo, Keema Naan & mushroom Pilau rice”, equivalent quality test is how long the learning experience remains fun and rewarding, and more than that, the “big-grin” moments when new discoveries take place and pieces of disparate information crystalise into tactics and procedures. On month in and I have just figured out how to accurately employ LBS’s. A golden moment when the frustration of past failures washes away in a glorious TGP IR thunderflash. Last week’s revelation was Beta#2 mavericks fix and improved JTAC implementation. This SIM just keeps on giving. The learning curve is almost the whole point, after all, when you stop learning, you die.
  15. Is there a way to edit the default load-outs in the “instant action” sorties? MK-82 AIR bombs are as much fun as soggy toast.:helpsmilie:
  16. Mark points are defined as either "overhead" or "offset" (page 164). Basically, as i understand it, if you have a ground point set as SPI, (and Dragon, looking at your description, you didn’t), and you create a mark point, it will be based on the SPI point as "offset" from you position. If you have no SPI , you will store your current location for flyover waypoint creation. **EDIT** Try resetting SPI (TMS Aft Long), and see if there is a difference in the Long/Lat coordinates of two markpints in the CDU. I will do some tests tomorrow At least thats how i understand it. I'm at work so cant experiment. have the CDU repeater in 2nd MCFD and you can see the lat/long co-ords of your markpoints
  17. Hey Pikas. Can you pm me when you get that info. Thats not a bad idea, now the Cougar stick can be disregarded, (if you have a hog ;)), it should be a lot cheaper to tart up the throttle. I might do the DIY "anti-stiction" mod. Of course you are banking on Ed not releasing "DCS:Apache" next right ;)
  18. Hypothetical Scenario: Everyone sells their Cougars as they get new HOTAS ED Announce DCS:Viper
  19. going rate on ebay about £90 AFAIK for decent quality / boxed. newer obviously worth more, just make sure you play up the "newness" in your Ad. lots of close up pics. might keep hold of mine for when friends round for LAN / beer / pizza nights. they have realy crappy sticks and would crap themselves with a Cougar ;)
  20. My missus hasnt twigged or if she has she hasnt mentioned it. she gave the hog stick a long look last night so i began distraction chit chat. i figure that if i can get the DAMN THROTTLE LIGHTS TO TURN OFF OR DOWN when they fix TARGET it will be less of a risk to my personal health and safety. That and gettign rid of the Cougar discretely.
  21. The laws of physics would seem to dictate that there will be a reduction in the force required to keep an object moving than that required to start the movement as long as the forces of gravity and friction are present. (smartass mode) :) but I know what you mean, as the laws of physics weren't written with a giant centering spring in mind! The Cougar spring was a distraction and made accurate flying difficult. I can't comment on modded Cougars but i can say the Hog stick isn't like that. Within one day i was accurately tank plinking and not just spraying like a champagne bottle as i did in the Cougar. There’s no appreciable increase in force required the more you move as there was in the Cougar. No noticeable bump at centre. It just stops when you let go. It centres yes, but its not like driving over a pothole or anything. Not distracting at all.
  22. I really wish i had a set of G940 & X65's to compare against the Hog. Then i would have a broader base of comparison. BeachAv8r’s future articles in SimHQ with road-tests of the main HOTAS rivals from the viewpoint of a RL pilot should be very illuminating in that regard. In my little review I tried not to comment on anything I had no direct experience of, which isn’t much in the HOTAS field to be honest as apart from some basic joysticks, the stock Cougar is all I’ve had, and that took £30 worth of new switches, etc. as when I got it 2nd hand it looked like it had been under the sea for 2 years! It was in a wretched state and smelt of “damp garage”. After a bit of a refurb and re-grease though, it served me well. If any other stick that I have had experience of had suffered that much abuse, I doubt I would have been able to resurrect it. TBH that ability for TM products to be taken apart by the jobbing mechanic with a bit of soldering know-how and modded, etc is strength to be celebrated. How many Dell monitors are moddeed? How many mice? In my black and white world you should be able to gauge the quality of a product with the senses. The hog looks and feels the part. It breeds confidence in the budding A-10 pilot. The competitors are the G940 & X65 in that price range. The ED factor helps TM a lot in this instance. If ED were releasing DCS :Fulcrum for instance, would I have bought a hog stick? That’s another question and in that regard it would be hard to criticize the hog stick for being a replica, as after all, it’s a HOTAS with lots of axis and switches. Only the lack of rotaries could be grounds for grumbling, but I hardly used them on my Cougar TBH. Once the TARGET software is patched, I will start delving in to macros and seeing how it matches up against Foxy. I totally disagree. As for "better use a keyboard", that’s one of the plain most ridiculous statements I’ve heard this week. My badly mistreated Cougar that I refurbed had the same pots, and they were fine. It’s all down to personal experience. My unmodded Cougar opened my eyes to how a Proper HOTAS could improve my enjoyment of flying. There seems to be a fashion of the vociferous minority condemning the Cougar over the broadly content silent majority. Democracy favours the loud until its voting time, then the pundits are shocked. ;)
  23. The "wobble Hijack”, was me mate. I wish i hadn't opened Pandora’s box! The base issue here is for us all to gain familiarity quickly with what is, after all, a completely new piece of kit. Knowing what is a design limitation (the tiny play), and what is pretty obviously a fault, (broken switch. Etc.), will help us all. Rasputin’s issue was demonstrated as hardware when he plugged into a different machine IMO. That’s black and white. Return to vendor. Don’t even bring TM into it. Now can you all please stop examining your throttles under a microscope :joystick: and just enjoy the damn things. They are amazing pieces of kit. :pilotfly:
  24. Due to the WIP, I don't think we have Chocolate & Strawberry flavours of JTAC yet. Just Vanilla :megalol:
  25. It seems like the JTAC unit must be manually targetted at an enemy unit in the ME before it will give any information. Not very dynamic IMO. Can anyone confirm this, as when i havent had them in "attack group" mode (with line connecting them in the map), the JTAC isn't available.
