  1. The difference from a Q6600 to i930 isn't that great to be honest. Both ran OC'd @4ghz. Its faster but......DCS:A-10 will tell I guess. I have a Creative audigy so sound wasnt an issue. The gigabyte motherboard is mint and cheap. I basically read reviews till they were coming out of my ears and ended up following the buying advice from bit-tech/customPC magazine.
  2. Dont you guys have cornwall to yourselves in winter when the "ants" are gone, (as my cornish friends grandmother fondly terms tourists)? Just put a call into the passport / visa office. you may see less annoying surfers for a while. We dont have that problem up north. Who wants to surf when you are going to get frostbite and hit by a rusty pram, a traffic cone, used condoms a load of fish heads, (apologies to Northumbria tourist board). What you really need is a good old UK/US built oil rig just off the coast. Nice and cheap, never mind Health and Safety. Just turn the pressure up a litle.......bit more..........just a tiny SPLAT!
  3. Its 99% a hub power problem. Check the hub power draw in device manager. They put out 500mA each. My TrackIR sometimes won’t start and I have to unplug/plug to get it to kick in. It’s annoying. Distributing devices to different USB controllers helped, but Track IR sometimes sleeps. (Here you see my overloaded port. Each MFD is called "HID Compliant..." and draws 250mA) Also, when my PC comes out of standby the USB port on the CH pedals stays down and needs to be unplugged.
  4. My advice would be, (with x64), to ignore game installers default predilection with installing everything in C:\Program Files (x86)\. There are permissions issues in win7 with that folder sometimes if the software doesn’t follow strict MS guidelines, (Freefalcon, TrackIR, Foxy, etc). I would therefore create a separate C:\Games folder for all game related installs. You will have an easier life! As for OEM vs. Retail. Sure the EULA states that on OEM you can only have a few upgrades then you have to phone MS to allow you to activate again. I’ve done it loads of times. Just say, “My PC died”. They can’t argue with that. Dumb EULA anyway IMO. Again, retail will give you an easier life, (and a few less phone calls to Inda), and your wallet will be lighter ;)
  5. Meh, I'm not waiting till xmas for any imaginary double offer, (think about it a minute, it would either be TM doing a free DCS A:10 download offer or ED offering a voucher for $15 off the HOTAS RRP or something). If it happened. I want to use the TM hotas in other games as soon as it comes out. I have a viking funeral planned for my Cougar. Possibly involving mead. :drink: And a monastery. :glare:
  6. Cheers guys. Jerda, I hadn't considered formation flying. Now I come to think about it, there are several factors contributing to my FC2.0 A-10 bad habits. · In the A-10 campaign i rarely have to co-ordinate with other assets therefore TOT is never critical, therefore 100% throttle. · Transitioning from fast jets to the a-10 is a lesson in patience sometimes. “Are we there yet?” syndrome, therefore 100% throttle. · Unlike Falcon, single player is never a wingman therefore no need for formation worries apart from slowing up to allow my flight to form up after takeoff, then 100% throttle. · With no afterburner on the A-10 there is no massive fuel consumption increase, (seems quite linear. Well compared to fast jets) when at 100%. · As Panzertard pointed out, engine preservation would make me slow down. I assume it’s modelled in DCS as in FC2.0 I can burn all day at 100%. To cap it all, I usually only get an hour or so per night for simming as RL gets in the way, and I never liked time compression as things have a nasty habit of popping up. Habits will have to change with DCS:A-10! Looking forward to doing things properly.
  7. I’ve been playing the A-10 missions / campaign in FC2.0 through again to get ready for DCS:A-10 & the new TM hog HOTAS and I noticed that compared to, say the F-15 and Falcon for instance, I tend to fly around with the throttles at 100% pretty much most of the time apart from landing manoeuvres or for really tight turns in valleys for instance. Is this realistic in a real A-10? Are none afterburning jets throttles floored during combat zone ops? After all, you don't want to be bumbling around at 200kts over tanks and shilkas That would take some of the shine off the new HOTAS just to have to “spinal tap” the throttles foregoing their supposed new sensitivity and accuracy of the new DCS FM.
  8. DCS:A-10 + Warthog HOTAS + BOB? I would actually start believing in santa again :pilotfly:
  9. Try the laser in the AFM SU-25T in comparison! You are spoilt in the KA-50:) Its, activate, fire one, its overheating, fire two. Switch off, extend, jink, dump flares and repeat. I have enough faith in ED to model whats there. If its an operational limitiation in the real aircraft, ED wont leave it out unless they figure it isnt important, and a targetting system mainstay is very important.
  10. Looks like we will have 3 months or so without the game however, ho hum. Still, its going to be interesting when people start posting profiles for FC and Falcon, etc. (all those switches.....gibber...) I wonder if there will be a review of the stick in the next PC Pilot mag. Last months issue said they were planing one. It will be interesting to see if the historical warbird guys take to it. BOB should be out early next year i reckon.
  11. TM will post them to you at about 5-6 euros (inc posting from Canada). takes 5 or so weeks depending on your location. I replaced almost every pot and replaceable part in my Cougar for the princely sum 20euros. Go through their support site as linked above.
  12. Well, I’ve had no problems with them. They’ve replied to my emails (after a day or two), and sent me parts very cheaply for out of warranty repairs. They were sent 1/2 way round the world as well. Yes i had to do the repairs myself but i bought a knackered 2nd hand Cougar so I was expecting that. If it was still within warranty I would not have been a happy camper. The forum thing is a problem, but from their point of view, they may not want 10 million people bitching at them 24/7. I suspect they will bow to pressure when TARGET is released as that ties in several controllers so will benefit a forum. The alternative would be for them to post a massive “covers all eventualities” FAQ on their website. TM as a whole however need to increase their web presence as their site is very old and clunky and consists of several layers of increasingly historical code.
  13. You are therefore volunteering for INITIAL REVIEW duty then
  14. Look whats re-appeared on amazon! Same date as before! WOOOOOOOOT!!!!! methinks TM have given the greenlight!
  15. one of these?
  16. I'm in Ebay selling mode with my FSX stuff right now. FSX + Acceleration + numerous scenery addons. I’ve been through 3 PC upgrades since it came out and it still runs like crap. The money you have to spend and the effort you have to go through to get a nice FSX experience is absolutely disgraceful and the “out of the box” experience was very inadequate IMO. Saying, “it’s the mods that make it” doesn’t cut it in my book. Fair play to the people with patience and cash to tart it up, but the whole “no one flies the default aircraft” is another nail in an already very magnetic coffin. If its not the default planes or the default scenery or the default weather that people are paying for then what is the bloody point of FSX? The menus? You may as well buy C++ and make your own sim. There is room for a good civilian sim there and I will give XPlane10 a look, for the times when I’m not “going CAS on their ass” in DCS:A-10. Let’s hope the Xplane devs learn from the FSX debacle. Paid mods and add-ons are there to enrich and extend, not take the place of something that should have been there from the start.
  17. Awesome GA. This vid is now my morning "before i leave for work" pick-me-up. The pacing and music are spot on. The calm before and after the storm show your skills here are improvong all the time. Simply superb. The vid is now on a fileserver at my work, (hope thats okay?) and i am spreading the word. I even had a few console button mashers asking me about it, so, therefore IMO, i believe the content is spot on. (reel 'em in!). I wouldn't want a movie showing dial twiddling anyway, thats what the tutorials are for. Different critera, period. Now, more please!
  18. mmmmm faster, less resource hungry. Win 7 is superior to xp --> vista in every single way althiughy upgrading from vista @ £150+ would be a tough sale as i got mine cheap. would'nt go back though
  19. Hey guys, i've just had a rare moment of clarity. All of us who have preordered....... With no DCS:A-10 yet are we really going to sit there for a month setting up a profile for Falcon or FC2? I would rather iron all my socks to be honest. Unless H.E.A.R.T. makes alt-tabing all day fun! ......[thinking] ......[still thinking] ...... If TM include profiles for AF and FC2.0 i will drive over to France just to give them a hug!
  20. Sounds amazing and potentially will draw the FSX market share now abandoned by MS. If the rendering claims addup it should be stunning.
  21. I may take a few days off work just to setup FC2 & Falcon ;)
  22. You can use your g25 pedals. I did. Loads of others use them. they work great in DCS. If you get stuck, let us know as they can be a bit fiddly to setup. Or get a bigger desk :music_whistling: Or if you really want to twist.......
  23. We are still on producers note #2 right? They are converting to DX11 right? A bundle with TM may make sense down the line but no way will TM delay the Hog for DCS launch. There would be no point economically as they have no competition in as far as comparable HOTAS releases in the pre-xmas window. They will ship ASAP to start recouping dev costs. Besides, if ED "did a Falcon", and rushed DCS:A-10 in a state that needed 6 years of patches to fix, who would we blame? Keep your powder dry and wait for santa.:music_whistling:
  24. No Twist on TM Hog as there is none on Cougar. Same type of handle. Honestly guys, i was a twistie for years and never saw what all the fuss was about. I pIcked up a 2nd haNd steering wheel & pedals combo for Colin McRae and thought, "i wonder if they will work in LOMAC". A bit of fiddling later and OH MY GOD ITS LIKE PASSING YOUR DRIVING TEST / BAMBI LEARNING TO WALK! Never looked back. And as for space. What do you have under your desk?
  25. nope. twist rudders are the spawn of satan
