its a lot quieter than AWACS. a lot
-
To be honest, this thread helped me out when i was getting my head around the F-15 avionics. I've not noticed much change in that area in FC2.0, (i wasnt au fait with the "issues" of FC1.12b so now that it "just works", i am none the wiser. ignarus est bliss!

thanks for letting me know. I must admit, for a blast of Falcon, switching my gfx card out may be a bit extreme, but the added benefits of a cooler running and less power hungry pc are all added incentives
-
old wives tale unless you are running NT4.0 :smilewink:

Heh, just what i was going to say. I work in a media company and even with ‘the power of YouTube’; it is not a primary marketing tool, (more an interest generator). Clips, (invariably low quality, poor fps), always make it out though. Basically if it’s not on a company’s official YouTube page, and ED have one, then it can’t be considered indicative of the quality of the product. A company cannot easily police youTube content therefore shouldn’t be judged on it. :smilewink: Ps. And a bit of “wobblecam”, probably wouldn’t sway military budgets.

Mastiff, let us know how you get on with the new card. I have a ‘285 and am thinking of upgrading whilst i can still get a good Ebay price for it. Was looking at a 5870 as the new NVidia’s are way overpriced IMO. FC probably won’t improve much as its CPU bound but you should see difference elsewhere. With you on the FF, as 5.3 and now 5.5 have come out whilst I have been in the “NVidia desert”

Entering combat = The need for a clean profile and minimum weight. Gotcha:smartass: Worry about refuelling and the angry quartermaster once I am back at base ALIVE !
-
cheers for that. you just saved me hours of messing about. I like having the chat window up but the text was way to large and "in your face"
-
I will try that. My inner nagging doubt says, "you may need that extra fuel in case you need to extend away then re-engage". Mind you, my inner nagging doubt takes a lot of parachute rides.
-
But they don't shield you from R-27ET's either! (My current main cause of early parachute rides) **EDIT** So, if they are empty they aren't much of a hindarance, (obviously they are to some degree, drag and weight, etc), and you would be happy to enter combat WITH tanks on? I guess what i am saying is, "should i drop tanks when entering BVR or wait till its gets dicey and close"?
-
Guys I can barely here the guy in the A-10 campaign. I can hear AWACS loud and clear so its not the headphones slider. Has anyone else got this issue?
-
Thats what I was thinking. Once they are empty they are a liability. Now, I wonder if my wingmen will do the same?
-
At work so havent tested in game but this from the manual. Looks like you guys have already answered my question though. Cheers! ["Farmers of Georgia, prepare for large metal cylinders to rain from the sky!!"] Heh. Now, i'm not starting the whole, "it worked in Falcon" debate here, as I could never go back, just using that as an example of where i had seen that before. Senility requires references!

[F-15 BTW] Now I know that when, in a knife fight, all excess weight is a killer and to dump the tanks straight away, but whilst not directly engaged in combat, when is the best time to drop the tanks? The fuel quantity readouts show external tank quantities in separate readouts but is there a way to set the aircraft to use that fuel first so you can them dump them when empty and still have a full internal tank? Apologies if this is the default behaviour, (and just drop the tanks when this readout reaches zero), as I haven’t really tested this and only thought of it when reading this post about F-15 best practice. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=54653&page=2 ps. There is a switch, (none functioning) below the readouts with settings for tank selection but AFAIK, it worked in Falcon but not FC2.0.

Thats a real shame as the browser is hopeless really. the quake 1 browser was better. in 1996  hyperlobby 4.2.0 was released on the 20th may 2010 but no FC2.0 support http://hyperfighter.sk/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=2&orderby=dateA Its a bit of a shame that such a great games aguably best feature is marred by an unfriendly interface.
-
I can't be doing with the hobbled game browser anymore and wanted something a bit more "up to date", so installed Hyperlobby, but it asks for the location of "lockon.exe", the old .exe (pre-FC2.0) Am I right in assuming that it doesn't work now and we must use the spartan multiplayer GUI / browser where I can’t even sort servers by player numbers, filter out locked servers, etc. It’s a little bit..... :music_whistling: The last few nights I have been itching for an online game and only found a few servers with more than 8-10 people on them

This is Spinal Tap’s F-15 Tachometer
coolts replied to coolts's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
[iNNER MATHS NERD MODE] If a normal gauge went up to ten then, when at full, as a percentage it would be 100%, therefore if it went "up to 11”, then that would be 110%, (of the original "10" maximum), or what you see on the F-15 Tachometer. :smartass: [/iNNER MATHS NERD MODE] ps. Or something. pps. Now you have got me attempting to justify a correlation between Spinal Tap logic and Flight simulation! Mind you,"THRUSTMASTER HOTAS". Nudge nudge :smilewink::smilewink: -
Can you tell me what PRF settings refer to? Thats a new one on me. Azimuth & elevation are all i am used to messing with the radar. .\:|:RUSTLE OF PAGES:/:|.................. Ah, do you mean Long range scan mode? Do you know, i've never ever used it as i assumed that, as i dont usually even see bandits furthur than 40mn, there was no point in using it. I havent even assigned a HOTAS control. I remember using the different bar scan modes in Falcon 4.0 but never LOMAC.... [back to the manual....]

Thats okay. As long as i'm not bumbling along slower than everyone else because I cant find 5th gear! :joystick: -

I am running a couple of mods, (new f-15 cockpit and 6dof), but it looks like it's not supposed to go up to 110% from what you guys are saying, (I was thinking of the WEP in IL2 there). I have watched tutorial vids on various F-15 / LOMAC topics and they all go to 100% when at full throttle IIRC. My Cougar throttle shows full range as far as I can make out. Yes, just confused as to why it goes to 110% if all i can get out of it is 100%. My thoughts being, "i want that extra 10% if it’s somehow available" Although, that again, is confusing fan RPM with POWER. The first is simple a measurement normalised into a % value. -
It goes all the way up to 11! (110%). But, even with afterburner on full, mine is at 100%. What is the extra 10% for? (apologies for low rez pic) I assumed that either my throttle wasn’t set up with the full range or that it is a margin for over-RPM, for instance if diving steeply with full afterburners, making the fans turn even more quickly with the sheer volume of air. Or it is actually a McDonnell Douglas / Spinal Tap joke.

The terrain was the most likely cause of my "ghosts". That relates to my earlier worry about motoring along at 30k when everyone else is skulking around in the valleys. The only option seems to be to get my boots muddy, although it seems rather unnatural for a F-15 to be bush flying. My mistake about the "bogey" term, you are right, it was bandits. The terrain was probably the cause of half of my MIA AWACS calls, however, somethimes i will get a real close (30-40miles), call, over water, and, again, nothing there. This has happenned a few times in the campaign, but i am putting it down to my radar clumsiness as the scan zone gate is pretty narrow close up.
-
I underestimated the enhanced sneakiness of online players. I would see a radar spike, say at 3 o'clock, for a few seconds, and then it would go off. I would then turn toward it and start scanning, find nothing, then return to my previous course. It would then pop back up ay my 5-6 o'clock! Very disturbing. Of course, the mind convinces you that you are caught in some web of conspiracies where everyone online is a grizzled cigar chomping moustachioed top gun / chess grand master. Very entertaining though. Once I complete the F-15 campaign convincingly, I will foray online more often. One thing I noticed was that AWACS was constantly calling out bogeys, but when I dutifully went to investigate, there was nothing there most of the time. Does AWACS declare ghosts sometimes? Or as the calls are queued, could these be past messages?

Guys Can someone tell me which .cfg or .lua file has the levels for these controls so i can set them to lower defaults? The defaults are a real "girlfriend annoyer", and i may be forced into using headphones. I dont want to turn all noises down, just the beeping :) , - RAlt - RWR/SPO Sound Signals Volume Down . - RAlt - RWR/SPO Sound Signals Volume Up
