  1. At about 17:13:45, my engine goes out. What was I doing wrong? EDIT: just realized that my selected tank ran out of fuel. Dur.. why did my engine go out.trk
  2. Scott, What are the two cows' names?
  3. Alright Scott, If it really is you, please post a picture of you sitting at your sim rig playing FC2, looking at the camera, giving a thumbs-up. Make sure you as well as your rig are in full view.
  4. LOL!!! The last one's the best!
  5. So, it appears that there is no solution to this problem so long as I am using multiple monitors. Drat... Please fix this, ED!!
  6. I'd like the older red LED UFC; it stands out from the MFDs on either side of it, and just plain looks cool. And of course, if we could have the option to choose between the newer UFC and the old one, that would satisfy everyone.
  7. 1.2.2.7286 is the version of DCS: World that I am running. As seen in the attached pictures, the sun glare only shows when the sun is at the edge of my display. Any further towards the center of my display, and it reverts to a glare-less circle. I have HDR set to "warm colors." Can someone help me resolve this? I've liked the sun glare very much ever since it was implemented in DCS: A-10C, and would be saddened to not be able to enjoy it anymore.
  8. Okay, I've at last managed to complete the cross-country challenge campaign mission. I kept engine RPM and MP in the green arcs while flying level, pushed both beyond the green arcs while climbing, and used a high RPM with a lower MP while descending toward the destination base. At last, made it without my engine seizing. Continuing the campaign, enjoying the subsequent missions, so far without engine seizure...
  9. Uh, this ought to be a promotional video for DCS World; it's that good. Man, Eagle Dynamics is slowly building a commercial version of their military product, The Battle Simulator... I really need to play online more often...Maybe even pick up CA one of these days... Also, that part right at the end of the video where the A-10 buzzed the JTAC sent shivers up my spine.
  10. MP was 3200, and RPM was 2200. Airspeed was about 375 MPH.
  11. Oh, and, I forgot to note that I had the supercharger in low blower mode throughout the remaining second half of the mission. I'll check the track to see what RPM and MP settings I had it on tomorrow; I need to hit the sack right now.
  12. Okay, I successfully got through all the airborne gates without seizing my engine by using a healthy amount of RPM...only to have my engine seize as I was descending en route to the destination airbase!! Lord, this bird will really bite you if you don't treat her as she's designed to be treated! As for details, I was descending with the RPM and MP each around the bottom of the green arcs. The engine seized when I was at around 15,000 ft, going 400 or more MPH. The oil temperature was a bit below the green arc. Throughout a good deal of the flight, the oil pressure was in the green arc, while the fuel pressure stayed around the bottom red line(the minimum limit). Sigh...Can someone refer me to some specific limitation information in the manual or elsewhere for this bird that might be of some use for myself? I myself can't seem to find a great deal of information for my troubles in the manual.
  13. I just looked at the manual for A2A's Mustang for FSX, and it says something that supports your statement: that running the engine on high manifold pressure with a low RPM setting is quite hard on the engine and should be avoided. I even loaded up a quick mission for testing purposes, putting the RPM and MP on the lowest and highest settings, respectively. Sure enough, the engine seized within a minute or two. Alright, it sounds like I simply had my RPM too low for what I needed the airplane to do. I shall try the mission again, this time only using the green settings for RPM and MP while cruising...

  16. Okay, I'm seeing now that one really needs to keep an eye on the engine management gauges throughout operation of this aircraft, as temperamental as the engine seems to be. I was just flying the challenge campaign mission in which you are tasked with navigating hundreds of miles from one airbase to another over the Caucasus mountains. I was at about 15,000 feet, flying with my RPM, Manifold pressure, fuel pressure, oil pressure, and oil temperature in the green areas, when seemingly for no reason my engine seized, just as it did in the previously discussed dogfight mission. My oil temperature had been above the green zone at times, particularly when my airspeed was around 150-175mph in climbs, but (I think) not for too long of periods. What the heck is going on here? Does going above the oil temperature's green zone cause irreversible damage to the engine, regardless of how much and for how long??
  17. I was using max RPM while maneuvering as well as when pointing the nose up a pretty good amount of the time. I was only really using max throttle when pointing the nose up.
  18. My memory of the debriefing is a bit hazy...I think I remember it saying something about an AC generator failing.
  19. At about 17:19:40 in the uploaded track, I'm inverted, pulling some positive G's, firing at an adversarial Mustang with my .50s. Suddenly, my engine instantly comes to a dead stop. Can someone tell me what happened here? This has me scratching my head. Did the bullet casings jam my engine.trk
  20. It truly is wonderful to finally experience what we've inadvertently been training ourselves for with these sims. I personally can relate to your story; a year ago, after playing IL-2 for years, as well as a bit of DCS: A-10C, DCS: Black Shark, and Rise of Flight, I had my first experience of piloting a fixed-wing aircraft: A PT-13 Stearman biplane. My skills that I had acquired from playing sims over the years translated over; I had sufficient coordination and familiarity to successfully make the airplane do what I wanted it to do, to a degree. I only piloted for perhaps ten minutes out of the twenty-minute flight, but nonetheless the experience had a huge impact on me. It caused me to see that I truly want to get my own pilot's license when possible. Since then, I've begun playing FSX over the past few months. Now I know a thing or two about flying "elegantly;" coordinating my turns, using power with elevator to climb and descend, keeping my eye on several instruments at once while maneuvering the aircraft and looking all around me, holding a constant altitude in turns, etc. Just about a week ago, I got to go up in the Stearman again, and my skills I learned from FSX translated over. Here's the quoted experience from an email I sent to a friend: Wonderful experiences. Truly wonderful.
  21. :surprise: Can I come to your house, please?
  22. You know, we'll likely be able to finally empty the tank behind the cockpit first, as actual P-51 pilots did. I did not like that the P-51 in IL-2 emptied this tank last without my consent. I don't know if the P-51D would have been my first choice for a WWII study sim(I'd have liked the Jug(P-47) or Lightning(P-38)), but, knowing ED, this will more than likely end up being another excellent DCS module. I'll likely purchase it to support ED, as well as toy around with what may end up being the most intricately-detailed simulation model of a WWII airplane yet. Here's to hoping that ED includes a European(or maybe Pacific) front in which we can fight realistic battles with this bird, complete with (at least) AI B-17s, Me-109s, and FW-190s.
  23. The bumping of this topic is a failure of the internet.
