Found a new review video for Joysticks on the market
Waxer replied to Contact409's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Good catch. Noobifier and Jabbers were both given Winwing HOTAS by the company to review. Both did preview videos, but declined to do full reviews. Having said that GS did a full review and liked it. But if Fox 2 / Contact409 / Tonylin409 has some kind of relationship to Winwing and is presenting a video as an independent review when it is really a marketing video trashing competitors (and making inaccurate statements) then this is terribly bad form. -
Straw man argument. That is not what I said. :megalol:

You kinda brought this on yourself really and should really recognise this. I did the same as you, ordering from Germany initially. But when the UK reseller lowered the UK price I did not cancel the German order to save £20 or so because I realised the potential was there to have a ball ache communicating with people in Germany who are probably wading through a large number of orders. 5 days is plenty of time to expect a response I grant you. It is bad form not to respond, although you could probably understand that they might be short staffed due to Coronavirus and that many other UK customers might have ordered from them and cancelled once the UK reseller lowered prices. How did you pay... credit card right...? So yeah, in terms of getting my money back I would be chilled. Just pissed off that they don't communicate. Write to the credit card company that you have contacted the retailer to cancel. Ask the credit card company how long to wait before raising an official disputed transaction with them and follow their guidance. And ask them to log communications as a prelude to a claim. Heck, even write a letter to HP complaining if you are that pissed off. (Any German citizens online here that know the distance selling regulations in Germany?)

I really don't understand what all the anxiousness is about. If you want an early G2 without waiting much beyond launch then pre order. German, UK or US HP Authorised reseller... whatever. I really doubt it matters provided you order from the same customs region. A few quid here and there maybe. A day or so extra there or so. No matter. These HP resellers would routinely be taking orders for multiple workstation setups costing tens or hundreds of thousands of £. Our single order G2 headsets are probably a time intensive pain in the ass for them and they are doing it as a service to HP in order to keep their Platinum reseller status and keep in HPs good books. If HP were denying knowledge of these resellers, fine... I would not preorder from such sites. But given the context here, chill people. Pre order. And go an do something else for 2 months. And relax.

It is pretty clear: HP don't want to go direct to the consumer on this launch. For whatever reason. For the first few weeks you could return to the retailer if you want under distance selling regulations, but immediately and beyond that HP would be on the hook for warranty claims. I really don't see much difference if any for UK based customers to be ordering from Germany as opposed to the UK reseller. If I already had a preorder, then I would stick with what I had. If I was preordering right now I would preorder from the UK reseller.

If Bestware don't cancel your pre-order, they would be doing you a favour. These VR headsets will sell like hotcakes. Many customers will miss the boat on the first tide and you will be able to flip it on eBay for a profit, even after selling fees and whatnot. I would relax. Que sera sera.

Watch the MRTV video: it specifically answers all of your questions.

With a 1000 Ti you can always lower / balance settings in order to hit your fps target. G2 specs are that a 1080 Ti is sufficient.

The first review should be out today according to Sebastian.

Maybe a day or so difference? Not a big deal. 2 weeks or a month or more would be annoying. 2 days, or so... nah. Besides... given how well EU logistics work I would not expect much if any difference between intra UK and Germany to UK delivery. It could even be quicker if HP's EU depot is in Germany.

LOL! Okay. This is actually a good point. At least it is in general. Like for example "Intel Gen 10 is out and it's amazing." Hype. etc etc. Well in isolation Intel Gen 10 is pretty amazing. But it is not particularly amazing compared to the CPUs that most of us are already running, in which case it is a modest to negligible upgrade that will make improvements to frame rates that are unlikely to change our DCS experience fundamentally. (Unless you are using a VIC-20 that is... LOL!). But VR is a bit different. For one, it is a game changer for flight sim immersion. Secondly, the technology is in early stages of development and large improvements are being made with every generation. Third, most of us are able to jump on the Half Life hype to sell our old VR headsets at cost to make the upgrade to the G2. About a year ago I was totally new to VR. I didn't know if I would like it and I was wary of spending £1k and upwards on a headset which is an emerging technology and likely to be significantly outclassed within a year. For this reason the £400 Rift S made a lot of sense. After initial nausea I found that I enjoyed VR, performance was decent and well within the capabilities of my PC and the price point low enough that it was a minor expense for me. But yeah, your point is amusing and it is somewhat true. We should all pinch ourselves when getting hyped at the latest gadget.

Or you could flip it in the first week for a profit.
-
Yeah, the price difference between the two is now fairly negligible and like you I don't want to faff around and risk missing the first batch. And I don't really want the hassle of having two headsets and selling one.

Right. The EU is technically not in the EU currently. But we are in a transition period where essentially arrangements between the EU and UK remain unchanged. Regardless of the technicalities I am not being charged for delivery go the G2 to my home.
-
German reseller charges €0 for EU orders over €500.
-
Well... it is mystery then! Hey ho. I am with the German reseller. So we'll see.
-
The VAT explains about 4% difference. The exchange rate explains maybe about another 3-5% difference. The UK reseller is charging £12 in delivery charge. There is still an unexplained gap. Unless the German website is selling the G2 without grips (my suspicion) whereas the UK reseller is including grips... that would explain it. Hence my earlier question. But at the end of the day if I save over £100 and don't get grips it makes little difference to me. I don't play generalised VR games. Just DCS and maybe some IL-2. The only difference it makes to me is potential resell value as most potential buyers would want grips. But I'd rather keep £100 in the bank.

Lads in the UK. Authorised HP UK Reseller preorders here: https://systemactive.co.uk/online/hp-reverb-g2/ However the UK preorder price is substantially higher than the German pre order website, so speaking personally I am going to keep my German preorder. Why such a large difference? I don't know, but guessing: prices are likely to be set in USD and converted using historical exchange rates. The USD / GBP rate has been relatively stable recently, but the USD / EUR has been more volatile with the EUR strengthening a bit. Also German VAT has been temporarily reduced from 20% to (I think 16%) to help boost the economy during this pandemic. These things probably explain at least some of the variation. Good luck getting your slots.

I used PayPal. I really doubt anything is to worry about. Only issue could be returns warranty. Might need to post to Germany to claim refund or replacement rather than UK. But not a deal breaker for me. I'd rather get one of these in the first batch before they sell out. Pretty sure they WILL sell out.
-
Screw it. I pre-ordered from Germany. I am without any VR at the moment having sold my Rift S on Half Life hype. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Well, sort of. Even if I end up with two G2's by ordering from two places I expect I would be able to flip one pretty easily.
-
I was talking about the German HP reseller. Thanks for your other points.
-
I was debating waiting for HP UK. (Currently clueless). Or ordering from Germany (who have preorder up now, so not clueless). Why are you not trusting an HP reseller? Also guys: does anyone know. For use in DCS only do you need the handset controllers, or can you order the G2 without controllers and still get everything you need done with HOTAS, mouse, keyboard and VIACOM?
-
16 Sep 2020 EU release date according to that website? Looooook wait.. so impatient. I sold my Rift S in anticipation and I am missing DCS currently. (And I am also waiting on a VKB order).

What fees were charged by the delivery company and customs fees, VAT etc?
