  1. Hi folks, I'm just putting a mission together which involves flying out of a FARP in Georgia, using a mixed team of Gazelles & Harriers. Depending on whether you fly the Harrier or Gazelle, an AI pilot flies the the other aircraft. The AI Gazelle takes off fine and happily flies off to complete his mission. But the AI Harrier takes off vertically from the ground (his WP0 is set as 'takeoff from ground'), goes straight up to about 1200', then tips backward & crashes into the ground instead of heading off to his next WP. I've tried reducing the load from a couple of bombs & Mavs to nothing + 50% fuel = gross weight 19,000lbs - no change I've tried creating a new harrier with again no load, only 2 WP including the 'takeoff from ground' WP0 - no change Anyone have any ideas what's going on and how to fix it? Only solution I can see right now is let the fellow take off, then when he gets to about 500', de-activate him and activate a new harrier starting at 500' and 170kts - it'll work but if I can use the takeoff from ground instruction, I'd be happier, otherwise - what's the point of it?
  2. Morning folks, I've just finished building a mission based in Georgia - lots of fun & games with the Abkhazians and hopefully the first of a series. You can find it here I built this mission for the Harrier & Gazelle, but then thought the Su25T might make a nice additional option, and I could definitely use the practice with it, so here you go - I hope you enjoy. Not sure if it'll survive the final landing, but I always hear about how Russian jets are robust and built to operate from rough strips, so let's see.... For those who have no idea about the Womble references - they're a bunch of special forces litter pickers from UK children's literature. An animated TV show documenting their ops was a part of my regular viewing when I was a lad. I'm sure I often see them out of the window when I'm in my happy place - bobbing along at 450knots, 100'AGL in my lil' Harrier listening to all the interesting whoops & beedles coming from various bits of the aircraft trying to tell me to stay alive. Have fun! I've had a great time building it and it seems to work pretty well, although the legendary DCS stealth tanks that crawl along the underside of bridges can occaisionally confuse things. Time needed: A couple of hours should be plenty. Aircraft flyable: Su25T (just because then you don't have to spend any money to fly the mission. Gazelle (HOT version) Harrier (AV8B for you across the pond) Mods needed: None. Any feedback is great, but beware I'm just a simple social science graduate - Don't expect me to do anything complicated, I just like pressing buttons to see what happens. Hedgeslammer

You can find it here I've just started trying to fly the Gazelle & thought it could be fun to try and create a mission or two that could be flown by it, or the Harrier, as I fly that more regularly. The Su25 is also available, but in this scenario, the speed & payload of the Harrier makes a substantial difference, so for the whirlybird pilots, a bit of Georgian help also joins in to help balance things - you'll see what I mean - although there's definitely plenty of opportunities to make your mark. As far as the Gazelle is concerned, at the moment I'm usually too busy trying not to crash to worry about the wildlife - so I'll be interested to find out how you experienced pilots get on. Have fun! 5. This is a bit of a workaround, but I found that there's only a couple of mfd buttons that I need to use- mainly the ones for tpod zoom, tpod tv/ir view & now the desig button in ehsd mode - so I mapped a couple of spare buttons on my throttle to those mfd buttons. Works fine as long as I'm on the right mfd page otherwise it can cause some strangeness. A while back I mapped the ecm/rwr page to a hotas button & that works really well to quickly check local threats. Also - I can really vouch for a head tracker of some kind - makes a massive difference for any plane, but especially those with clickable cockpits. Track ir is the one everyone knows, but my Trackhat was way cheaper & works well for me. Even cheaper versions are available too.
  6. Hi folks, Just in case you're twiddling your thumbs under lockdown, wondering what shenanigans you can get up to in your Harrier, I've just uploaded a new mission in a series I'm slowly building for the Persian Gulf - The Pirate Voyage 6: Bellamy's Heroes. No mods are needed (apart from the Persian Gulf map), although I tend to use the RAF Desert Pink livery because I think it looks great, so you'll see that in a few of the screenshots. I've also updated all of the briefings for the whole series of missions to provide a pdf and maps for each mission. Don't expect anything super flash - I just like messing about with the mission editor and finding out what I can make it do. I've tried to vary the types of missions as I like variety, so some missions are fairly straightforward strikes, others involve hunting for targets with the TPOD, and others a bit of shutting down SAM sites. Most of the missions allow you to fly different flights too, including CAP on some missions if you want to show off in your fancy F15 or F18. All missions are easy to edit to convert for pretty much any other aircraft that can hit stuff on the ground - F16, F18, even A10 - nothing is likely to break. Obviously the missions that start from the Tarawa will need to be started from a nearby airbase, but that should be simple. Any feedback is very gratefully received - especially if it's constructive or ideas for things to try. Oh, and there is NO A-A refuelling, mainly as I'm rubbish at it! But also because the missions are based on a limited resource deployment - no AWACs, No refuelling, and a sort of Forward Operating Base to work from (maybe I'll set a proper one up now I can). For the rest of the missions in this series, and others I've built for the A10A and others, try this link. Happy flying! Hedgeslammer

  7. Maybe, or it may be that I've been starting missions today with the systems all fired up rather than cold start
  8. Be aware that the parking brake also now seems to be on by default
  9. No worries - I've only just worked out that the STOP lever works differently now, and as for the TPOD and Auto bombing.....
  10. Same here - I thought it worked fine being able to slide the STOP lever up & down to the position desired - very weird trying to keep the mouse cursor on the level while clicking the left or right mouse button - very unintuitive and not user friendly compared to having a lever you could just drag up & down - if it could be changed back, I'd be very happy.
  11. Hi, I've just been having the same problem, then noticed that the parking brake is now on by default. Switch it off & you're good, although the engine seems to have had an upgrade - even sitting in idle is enough to start cruising along the parking lot!
  12. Ah, thanks Dr Zaius - I was having this exact same issue yesterday and couldn't work out what was going wrong. It would be great if there was something in the cockpit that told you if you were below the min PSI to fire the gun, but I guess that would be no fun!
  13. Completely agree - I bought Flaming Cliffs after trying the A10C and really struggling with trying to use the clickable cockpit. Then got a head tracker (I use TrackHat, mainly because I heard it was good, but cheap) and the Harrier, and have hardly touched the other planes since. The systems in the Harrier might not be that intuitive at first sight, at least compared to how my head works, but I love the ground attack role, and the Harrier is awesome at it, and moves way faster than the A10, so the show isn't over by the time you arrive. And you get to land and take off vertically or in ridiculously short spaces. I didn't know about the new FARP - will see if I can incorporate that into my next missions, after the current one in the set is complete and uploaded. PS - thanks for posting - I was getting a bit bored of seeing all the negative posts, and I bet Razbam were too - they seem to be from a small minority of shouty people, but they fill a lot of space - this beings a bit of balance.
  14. Hi, if you're still looking for A10 tank killing type missions, you could try this one Winter morning shenanigans It's set way before the A10C was around, so there's a pair of A10As, but you could open it in the editor and change to C models instead and away you go - will only take you a minute and there's tanks a plenty for you to play with...... Enjoy!
  15. +1 This would be really handy - for me at least, much more welcome than yet another shiny new weapon or minor bug fix, and hopefully doesn't take that much doing. And in case inspiration is needed, here's some I see on Freedar quite often: Rockstar Pirate Recon Albert (RAF C130) Warlord Havoc NATO Razor Rebel Tempest plus a load more I just found here
  16. Me too - I thought it might be my ancient X52 finally getting a bit cranky after many years of abuse. After an uneventful takeoff, and a bit of gentle maneuvering, if I pull a tightish turn, when I level out, the nose will keep rising and takes loads of trim to level out. Usually there's a bit of roll to the left too. It's made flying and trying to line up on targets really hard as you never know where the nose is going to head off to next. Flying the open beta. Other planes, like the A10A don't seem to have the same problem. What's going on?
  17. Name: Pirate Voyage Mission 1 - Blackbeard's Folly Author: Hedgeslammer Mission type: Works in SP, haven't tried MP Requires: AV8B, Persian Gulf, Flaming Cliffs for F15 if you want to fly that too. Controllable: AV8B, F15C Quick Summary: The Tarawa has been deployed to the Persian Gulf, and the spooks have found plans to attack shipping in the area by an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Rocketry unit. Unfortunately, the missiles they're planning on using are protected against an approach from the sea by SA3s & SA6s. Fortunately, we have a cunning plan, involving low level flying at dawn and a quick strike to neutralise air defences then the missiles themselves, then a quick dash back across the sea evading any CAP that tries to stop you, and hopefully landing on the Tarawa before you run out of fuel. What could possibly go wrong? This is the first in what might become a series of missions operating harriers around the Gulf. The name will make more sense once you get into the briefing. Also, F15s provide CAP for the mission - you can fly those too if you like. Link/Download: Here
  18. Silly question I'm sure, but I'm guessing you mean Silkworm rather than Silk Wood? Anyhow, I've had similar problems when buildingn missions and tended to use places like Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silkworm_(missile) for information on weapon systems that aren't in the encyclopedia. It's also annoyingly often that kit in the mission editor like aircraft armaments and ground equipment is known by a different name than in the encyclopedia. I'm guessing it's the case that one bunch of people are responsible for the encyclopedia and a different set for items in the mission editor & maybe they don't talk much about what they're going to call things.
  19. I don't know if this is useful, but way back in 1984, I had a sim for the old Atari ST called F15 Strike Eagle. I clearly remember the manual saying to approach the target area at low level, then pull up & roll inverted to acquire the target you were after, then pull back to bring the nose onto the target. I found that a really handy way of dealing with the issue of having the nose of the aircraft in the way of the view of the target, and creating only positive G's all the way. Then you'd roll the right way up & release your bombs, fire cannon or whatever. With this issue of the gun reticle being above the FPM, this may be a practical way of approaching & firing on targets in the Harrier too - at least in DCS if not in real life - just delaying the roll from inverted to right way up until the target's a hole in the ground. I think I know what I'll be doing this weekend...
