  1. Thanks, I think the majority of the issue was my skill level with the Sabre. I had trying the intercept mission at NTTR and always ran out of ammo prior to brining down the il-78. Did some practicing and I was able to take out all four engines in one pass from the 6 :-)
  2. Hi, I am relatively new to the F-86 and had a quick question about the gun selector switch on the left side. In particular under what conditions would it be advisable to to use a single pair of guns or all 6? Do you use 2 in dog fights to have more opportunities to put rounds on target? Do you use 6 for large targets (i.e. il-78) to do more localized damage or go with 2 to spread it out? Same question with ground attacks? Thanks for any insight/advice Regards, Brett
  3. Will the Nevada map also include a campaign too? Thank you
  4. I used the program to move and resize the kneeboard onto my second monitor. You are able to reposition the radio panels?
  5. Worked perfect....thanks!
  6. I have seen a few posts on how to move the kneeboard for the Huey but they seem to be referencing an earlier version of the huey or and don't seem to work for me or I am doing something wrong. I have been successful moving the MFDs for the black shark and A-10 along with repositioning the Autopilot text and the weapon status but cant figure out the kneeboard. Any help or direction is appreciated. Thanks
  7. Hi, I just got my 940 the other day and integrated it into my cockpit. Worked fine with FSX. But when I fired Blackshark I was able to get into the program ok and make changes to the command assignment within the game (I am not a big fan of profile software). One thing I noticed is that the program defaulted to placing the same command across all three devices (I went through and deleted the duplicate assignments). When I went to try it out in instant action I got an error message saying something was wrong with blackshark saying it was either corrupted or had a virus. Virus scan brought up nothing. Has anyone else had a similar encounter. Is this what the "anti-piracy" software looks like when you change hardware? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, BT
  8. Shez, If you don't mind me asking, what were you using before you got the G940? The programming isn't a huge deal for me, I actually prefer to program it inside of the game and just let things be as DX buttons. I typically try to replicate the real life button placement as much as possible
  9. I am seriously considering purchasing the new logitech G940. It is either that or I dump a bunch of money into my cougar (thrustmaster that is...not not my very attractive middle aged wife). It has a sticky throttle and fair bit of center play which is not a huge deal for airplanes but is becoming an issue for heli sims. I do have a couple questions though. 1) How does the trimmer work with a FFB joystick. My understanding is that it remains where it is and a new center point is defined (i.e. there is no need to bring the stick back to the center) 2) Does having a FFB joystick then effect the rudder trimmer implementation. Do I have to return the pedals to the center (as they are now) or are they removed from the trimmer logic. 3) Finally, I am interested in new owners of the G940 and what there experience has been with Blackshark. What did you have before that? Also how do you handle the detents in the throttle (do you just manually remove them through calibration or live with the tendency to set at a point) Any insight is appreciated
  10. I agree, the x-plane flight model is a real bear.....doesn't help that my throttle (collective) sticks a little. I do find myself looking for a "trimmer" button in FSX though....if there is one, I haven't found it....lol
  11. I have been flying this mission quite a bit lately to improve my handling skills. Im not certain it is a bug....... Two things to consider is that if you landed with any sort of trim then this needs to be cancelled. Also if you landed while having auto-hover engaged then the helo might try to seek the initial hover point using its control authority. So it is good to cancel auto hover and trim upon touch down. Also ships are typically pitched up from stern to bow, so the helo deck would be as well. Wheel brakes are needed to keep it in place. When I cancel the trim and auto-hover and engage brakes I have no problem keeping the helo on deck.
  12. I thought overall it was a good read, I was actually like the idea of keeping the trimmer set for a hover, although this wouldn't work because the trimmer also tries to maintain a heading so if you released the controls somewhere in your flight the helo would re-orient itself with that heading again.
  13. This works very well IMO, particularly if you have a Track IR and use the helmet mounted site. I have even used it for basic manuevering.....basically fly where you look
  14. Yeah, I just played around with the hold and release and started to warm up to it a little bit but then quickly changed my mind. I have a button programed for FD, so if I want the AP to stay out of the way for a while I think I will just use that. The tap and release seems to work pretty good in quick adjustments. I have never flown a helicopter before, but does a typical helicopter's (if there is one) trimmer try to maintain the heading like the BS or does it merely hlod the cyclic position. Along these lines does a typical trimmer engage the rudder pedals as well? Not looking to be critical, merely feeding a curiousity
  15. Thanks Andy and Nemisis, It looks like I might need to get int he habit of holding down the trimmer button when I am looking to change heading. I had been doing a series of chnages until it was where I wanted it.
  16. Andy, I had looked at that video a while back and just looked at it again and it doesn not delve into how the trimmer interacts with the autopilot from what I could see (unless they re-did the video with latest patch). One thing I did notice about the video is that it does not reset the heading carret each time the trimmer is pressed. Where as that does happen in my configuration (at least since the patch and I can't remember before that). Let me explain what I have been doing.... I have been practicing on the courrier mission and have been allowing the computer to execute the start-up sequence. What this gives me is the following: -Route mode is off -The Pitch, Roll and heading indicators are lit up I am not using route mode on any of this flight I take off and head towards the car over the mountains to get the documents and I set the trimmer once I am heading in the general direction and appear to be in straight and level flight I then release the controls. When I look at the hud the PVI (assumption) has placed a carret at the heading at which I pressed the trimmer and the heli attempts to maintain that heading If I try to make a minor correction in heading by deflecting the stick or rudder and release the heli returns to it the heading set by the carret (this is with no waypoints and the route mode is off) The only way to set a new heading is to either hold the controls there or to press the trimmer again. I noticed in the training video that the carret was not placed again each time the trimmer was set (of course I couldn't see what AP channels were lit up and if this had an effect). I believe this is new to the most recent patch. In this regards it seems like the trimmer is acting like a course AP instead of just a means in which to reset the center point for the controls.
  17. I know this has been beat to death, but I just want to make sure I understand exactly how this trimmer works. Irregardless of which trimmer setting method you use is it accurate to say that: 1) When you set the trimmer while traveling relatively straight and level that the trimmer will attempt to maintain the heading where it was activated....sort of like a heading autopilot. In this regards the flight control computer will actually change roll and anti-torque pedal input to make this happen (within its 20% authority) 2) The above is only true when FD mode is disabled Is this the case for the real BS, if so isn't this more of a course autopilot. I had always thought a trim function merely resets the neutral point for the control regardless of what it is. I feel I understand this but want to make sure. Thanks BT
  18. I just finished ready a book on the PJs (None Braver) during operation anaconda and that would be pretty fun role to play.....a lot of night flying. Book was pretty decent as well
  19. After installing the new patch and hearing about the smoother gameplay IO decided to crank up the details a little bit. I had been running the medium level on "Scenes". What a difference running it at the high level makes. There is a lot more greenery (and buildings I think). I used to think...."why are those AAA guns sitting out in the middle of a field with no cover" during the convoy hunt....now I can't even find them (and that is with labels).......certainly adds to the game......I have a lot of work to do on improving my recon.....lol
  20. It used to be I would see tracers and think...."ahh I got a few more seconds before I need to take evasive maneuvers.....press on with the attack" Now it seems like if I see tracers I have already been hit or will be before I can react and they seem to do more damage. I actually prefer it now.....makes me have to think instead of being "King of the Sky".....lol
  21. I installed the newest patch and have been pretty pleased with it. I do have a couple of questions that some people might know the answer to. 1) I noticed in the readme that processor affiniity will now be automatically set to use all cores on a multi core processor when using vista.......does this mean I don't need to use DCS Max anymore to accomplish this (no disrespect meant to the author) 2) I had also heard that there was some talk discussion that a 64 bit executable was going to be released with this patch. I didn't see anything in the readme along these lines....is this just a myth or is it expected in a future release 3) Finally....is it just me or did the AI get a little better over night. Their aim seems a lot better (still won't run for cover). It is either that or the blast radius of the SAMs has improved. I didn't see this in the readme either but I seem to be getting shot down easier than before. Any help/insight is appreciated
  22. After about 3 months at the cyclic and collective I think I can say I am a rotor-head now. After I got over my initial shock of how helo really handles in comparison to the last helo sim I flew (Gunship 2) I can truly appreciate the flight model. I find myself getting better all the time.....getting more daring with my maneuvers....knowing when to not get so daring.....low speed maneuvers like landing at a FARP and ship....etc. I even purchased Flight FSX Acceleration to try that helo and found it to seem entirely unrealistic in comparison to Black Shark....it was much to easy to fly. I guess I will remain a rotor head......at least until A-10 is released maybe :)
  23. Hey JG14, I actually prefer to keep the Sat levels at their default and just work at having a softer touch during hover etc.. The only axis I have altered have been the micro-stick that I use for moving the optical sensor. I find a little practice here goes a long ways. I am by no means a great pilot but I am getting better all the time. I can routinely land at FARPS (even if it does seem to take a while sometimes)
  24. Rhino, I did a test flight this moring to check on what you were saying. I paid a lot of attention to what I was doing. You are right the auto descent does stop just short of the pad. The first thing I noticed is that after attaining the auto hover I typically cancel trim so that I get rid of any bias that isn't part of my own control input. I also nitced that I tended to continue the descent by lowering the collective. I guess I just sort of continue the trend for the last 4m (i.e. I don't sit around and start to really think about it......thats when I get in trouble...lol) I use a HOTAS Cougar as well and use the default curves/dead zones (except for the microstick which I use for moving the schval sensor around and have it dampened significantly). I also use the ant elev dial for the anti-torque pedals
  25. The easiest way I have found to land on a FARP is to get into a hover nearby and use the auto descent while using the cyclic slightly beyond the 20 percent control range towards the pad. Occassionally I will reset the auto hover to a new position. When I touch down I drop the collective and cancel the trim. The most important thing is to keep the pad in view during descent. Hope this helps
