  1. I was disappointed in the price. I would have been all in for $500-$600. But at $800 I will wait for the prices to fall and for some solid information on how well it works with DCS P3D, etc
  2. Thanks Apache, I wasn't aware it had been broken for a while. I was just trying to help out. Hopefully they get it straightened out soon. A nice campaign you have put together!
  3. I came across this when playing through this campaign. I haven't made it far enough yet to encounter some of the other loading issues. Sabre Mission 4 - Escorting the General In this mission, there is supposed to be a mechanical failure that affects some of the Sabre's systems. The noise for this failure and the dialog options are triggered for this failure occur but the actual system casualty does not happen and none of the systems are affected. Just wanted to point it out
  4. Hi Zarden, I was struggling with settings for a good bit. Basically, it was a stuttering mess. I tried all sorts of settings but none of them made much difference. Next I decided to set the affinity for the application by getting it off cores 0,1 and restricting it to 2,4,6,8,10 on my 6850K (1080 GTX). Now everything runs smooth and I can get meaningful results by adjusting the other graphical parameters to increase or decrease the quality vs. performance. Performance is now around 45-60 the majority of the time, higher at high altitude and sometimes dipping into the upper 30's in congested areas. But at least it runs smooth Hope this helps
  5. What I did was open up Task Manager (CTRL ALT DEL) after starting DCS. Click on the details tab. Hover over DCS.exe and right click on it and select "Set affinity". Once there click on the processors that you want it to use. Mine was set on logical processor 0. I unchecked that one and selected 2,4,6,8,10 only (if you have a four core processor then checking 2,4,6,8). Then that is it
  6. I realize this might be common knowledge for a lot of folks here. I had known for a while now that DCS made use of at least two cores (one for the main app and one for sound). I had just assumed that DCS would actually make use of them without being told so. Having recently updated to 2.5 and flying around in the past in 2.2 and 1.5 I had frequently experienced micro-stutters in what should have been relatively benign conditions and could never quite figure out why. I had assumed that the code was optimized or something like that. I would experience decent frames but would encounter numerous dips that made the whole experience uncomfortable. It would seem much better when no in VR but in hindsight that was likely due to the higher starting frames and not really noticeable So when I started reading about people having favorable experiences with similar hardware (6850K @ 4.2 MHz 1080 GTX) I decided to dig a little deeper. I started to think that perhaps with HT on that DCS was attempting the first two logical cores (0,1) which would be on the same physical and thus could possibly be competing for the physical core's "attention" possibly causing the micro stutters. I had experienced similar interactions in other titles (P3D). So I decided to start it up again this time using Task Manager to only use logical cores 2,4,6,8,10 essentially leaving the first physical core alone and reserved for windows and its background functions and ensuring that DCS did not try to occupy more than one logical core on any one physical core. What a difference that made. Smooth performance on all three maps, no micro stutters, decent frames through out (45-90 with occasional dips into the upper 30's) all with relatively aggressive settings (at least for VR). Most of all it made it enjoyable again. This can be done manually using task manager or their are programs such as Process Lasso that can perform that function and others like it. I realize this is likely old news for some veterans, but figured it was worth posting for others who might be stumped with regards to why their PC isn't performing like they think it should within DCS. Hope this helps at least one person :)
  7. I had the same problem the first time I started it up. What I had to do was go into the VR menu. Uncheck the box for enable VR headset then check it again. After this exit the game and start it again and it should start with the Vive HMD as intended
  8. There looks to be something to having everything unchecked accept for the module I am using. Ran some tests using the ACM campaign and just sitting on the tarmac at nellis. With all the modules checked I run about 11-14 fps in VR with only the F-5 checked I am at 15-18 fps. Yes they are low numbers but the improvement is there. Improvement carries over to the range where normally I would be in the 45-60 range with some dips in the 30's ....with everything unchecked I get 60-90 with the occasional 45
  9. Boedha68, Thanks for the response but I believe that green check is for MP. I am talking about the one in the module manager, where you activate/deactivate a module Nirvi, Thanks. Though when I uncheck the green arrow...it doesn't delete the module from the disk like it does if I hit the trash can it just doesn't load the module when the engine starts. I can recheck it and restart the engine and the module is back without having to re-download By unchecking does the engine then use a lower detailed model of the vehicle if that vehicle is used in a mission? ie.e If I own the M2000 and the F5....could I expect better performance if I uncheck the M2000 when flying a f5 in the dogfight with the M2000.
  10. What is the purpose of the module manager green check mark other than to make that module available for use in that version of DCS? It doesn't seem to go through the serial number activation/deactivation? Is there any harm/benefit to unchecking everything except the module you want to use? Thanks, Brett
  11. Don't know if this helps but if you head east from India that may help. That is the direction that the blue planes are coming from
  12. The rule of thumb I use is I try to map all of the real world buttons on the actual planes HOTAS to my HOTAS and everything else I use the mouse for. I figure if the designers of the plane figured it was important enough to be on their HOTAS then it should be on mine as well
  13. Or have one of the pages on the kneeboard be a log of all communications....kind of like FSX/P3D does with ATC comms. That way you can scroll back
  14. I agree that a stronger connection would be good although I feel more practice on my part would make this a moot point. I took the plunge and decided to spend some quality time practicing this. At first it was a challenge just to make it connect. Then when I connected for the first time I of course freaked out and caused a disconnect. After that making the connection is becoming second nature but staying connected is a different story. Probably the best I have been able to do is 15 seconds. Fortunately reconnecting is a breeze now. The acceleration carrets in the HUD really help with dialing in the correct speed If there was an easy mode it would be nice for it to just maintain the connection once you are connected until the tanks are full

    Mission 6

Thanks! That did the trick! Great Campaign btw

    Mission 6

Hi, I am working my way through the M200 campaign and am slightly stuck on Mission 6. I follow the flight lead to the target range then out to the skirmish and then he goes into a holding pattern over the long lake and never gives the command to attack the ground troops on the mountain. Is there something I am missing? Any help is appreciated
  17. Thanks Sabre, I had a decent handle on most of what was presented there. The real question I had was how do you know what heading to fly on to go from way point 2 to ensure you intersect point 3 at the correct distance and radial from the selected TACAN. It appears from the discussions that you use your map to pick out a rough heading and then evaluate that when you get closer to determine if you are left or right from intended track when the center bar of the radial pointer starts to converge with the arrow. In the example from the post the pilot is going from waypoint 2 to waypoint 3. Waypoint 3 is located along the 297 radial from 18x at a distance of 46nm. So leaving waypoint two I dial in 18x and set the course for 297 and head in a general north (slightly east) direction. When I start to see the center bar converge with the arrow meaning I am about to intersect the 297 radial I check my distance. If the distance is at 46nm then I know I am right on the intended course. If it is 42nm then I know I am 4nm left of waypoint 3. Likewise if it is 50nm then I know I am 4nm right of waypoint 3. I then Make my best guess correction for intended course base don my deviation as I proceed onto waypoint 4. Is this basically how its done? or is there a more exact approach
  18. Hi, I have been enjoying the campaign so far. I do have a question with regards to navigation though. I understand how to use the TACAN as a VOR and how to track along a specific radial from the station. That would be great if the flight plan was along specific radials but it is not, instead it appears to be from one named NAV point to another which are on separate radials and or stations at specific distances. Is there a guide on how to accomplish this type of navigation. Presently, I am just using the kneeboard mark function to check my heading along with visual cues. Any help is appreciated. Kind Regards, Brett
  19. Hi, I just received my new extension from Sahaj. I had one from another manufacturer but it met an untimely end when one of my son's friends pushed too hard. I decided to give Sahaj's 10cm extension a try and am very pleased with the build quality.
  20. Just a little update. The zoom function works as expected in DCS 1.5 but doesn't work in 2.0. In fact the pixel density slider also doesn't seem to work in 2.0 or at least has no noticeable effect. Not sure if these functions are not active yet in 2.0 in the vive
  21. Didn't seem to work. Does it need to be held down? Any other switch used or zoom functions?
  22. I thought I had but I will give it another shot. Thanks!
  23. Hi, I recently received the Vive as a gift and have been exercising it in DCS. One thing I have not been able to do is to get the VR zoom to work. I found the item in the control configuration under UI and mapped it to a joystick button but when I press the button nothing happens. Is there something else I am missing. Any help or insight is appreciated. Kind Regards, Brett
  24. Thanks, I think the majority of the issue was my skill level with the Sabre. I had trying the intercept mission at NTTR and always ran out of ammo prior to brining down the il-78. Did some practicing and I was able to take out all four engines in one pass from the 6 :-)
  25. Hi, I am relatively new to the F-86 and had a quick question about the gun selector switch on the left side. In particular under what conditions would it be advisable to to use a single pair of guns or all 6? Do you use 2 in dog fights to have more opportunities to put rounds on target? Do you use 6 for large targets (i.e. il-78) to do more localized damage or go with 2 to spread it out? Same question with ground attacks? Thanks for any insight/advice Regards, Brett
