  1. Not based on any coast. Pilots are from Toronto to Hawaii. Weekly missions on Sundays at 9PM ET / 6PM PT.
  2. COVID-19 Health Alert NEWS FLASH: the CDC has declared combat flight simulation the safest group activity during the COVID-19 pandemic! If you're an aspiring carrier pilot, and for the sake of your own health, visit us here: http://www.vfa-41.com
  3. :sad_2: Damn. Exactly right. I KNOW better than that... I hadn't set it up in so long that I forgot that step. Thanks, guys. I'm doubly embarrassed because I actually posted that exact procedural guidance back in July on our squadron message board here: http://vfa-41.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=266 I just forgot... getting old is hell.
  4. Apologies if this is already noted somewhere. I don't see it anywhere. We have always used the abandoned X runway just south of KBL for bombing practice. Using DEG-MIN-SEC (non-precision) coordinates has always put weapons very close to the runway intersection. Yesterday I noticed WPDSG put the target diamond hundreds of yards away from the X. I re-confirmed the coordinates from the F-10 map, and re-entered them as a HSI waypoint, including elevation. Same result. Target diamond is now hundreds of yards away from the X.
  5. All footage from actual Black Aces squadron missions!
  6. If you're interested in participating in a continuing series of scripted carrier squadron missions in DCS World, but not interested in joining one of the "biggest and best" squadrons, you should visit: http://www.vfa-41.com - US time zones. - Weekly missions on Sunday nights. Unscheduled missions... are unscheduled. - 9-phased mandatory basic training and qualification program. - F/A-18C Hornet required for qualification, all carrier aircraft supported. - VFA-41 Training Range server up 24/7 (all welcome). The VFA-41 squadron roster is limited to 12 pilots. The squadron will never get bigger than that. Black Aces roster slots are valuable and reserved for carrier pilots who will get up and fly, not for those who might fly if they can find the time. Each Black Ace is a critical member of the team, and missions require each to be ready to fly and fight in order to meet mission objectives. Expert pilots need not apply. VFA-41 does not seek expert pilots. The only requirement is that you have to want to fly, and be prepared to fly at least once a week. If you can't (or don't want to) commit to getting into your plane once a week, Black Aces roster slots are reserved for active pilots. If you see an open slot on the squadron roster, we're recruiting. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you're looking for a squadron that will add you to their roster immediately when you submit an application, you should apply to one of the huge squadrons. VFA-41 does not operate like that. You will not be just another faceless name automatically added to an infinite roster with dozens of other members. Our goal is not to have the greatest number of members, but rather the have the right number of dedicated pilots to support ongoing missions. Applicants will be invited to interview with the CO and XO. VFA-41 does not offer trial memberships. If naval aviation is in your blood, and you're seeking a permanent home with other committed naval aviators, that empty slot on the Black Aces pilot roster may be waiting for you.
  7. F/A-18C grip defective Just received my F/A-18C grip and connected it. It is defective. The trim hat frequently presents a 'left' input when not touching it. Waiting to hear back from Thrustmaster tech support and/or the seller before submitting a return request with Amazon.
  8. Trim hat borked Just received my F/A-18 grip and connected it. The trim hat is defective. It frequently presents a 'left' input when not touching it. Waiting to hear back from Thrustmaster and/or the seller before submitting a return via Amazon.
  9. I was able to reproduce it on the ground, sort of... First, checked radar elevation at 0. Brought FLIR page up on the right DDI, I operated the ZOOM command but no zoom. Realized right DDI was not SOI. Moved TDC diamond to right DDI, and zoom command worked properly. Then selected Attack Radar. Noticed radar elevation was all the way up. My error, NOT BUG: FLIR page must be SOI in order to disengage zoom command from radar elevation. Sorry...
  10. TGP Zoom function still moves radar elevation up/down when radar is not displayed/SOI.
  11. With MAV-Es loaded, TGP FOV switch [RAID/FLIR/FOV button] is inoperative.
  12. Confirmed. F10 map shows two different TACAN beacons transmitting on 99X; Al Udeid and Al Minhad. Is this a real world conflict?
  13. Lasing targets with the Litening Pod; Sometimes I have to hold the trigger the whole time to fire the laser. When I release the trigger, it goes back to L ARM. Other times, I click the trigger once to fire the laser, and then click it again in 'unfire' it and return to L ARM. Am I inadvertently activating a trigger latch function I don't know about?:dunno:
  14. Since release of Litening Pod, I find that I have to dump fuel to nearly empty to get below trap weight with only 2x AIM-9, 2x AIM-120, and pod aboard. So I did some testing. Findings: 1. Refueling/re-arming plane to a certain weight (33,000 lbs) results in the CHECKLIST page showing more than 4000 lbs above that weight (over 37,000 lbs). 2. Adding/removing the Litening pod does not change aircraft weight on the CHECKLIST page.
  15. VFA-41 pilot Shadow has made available a selection of multi-player missions he has written, suitable for 2-4 pilots. The hallmark of Shadow's missions is usually random threat generation, so each time you fly the mission it plays out differently! These missions are mostly for the F/A-18C Hornet or F-14B Tomcat, but may include other flyable aircraft. Find his downloadable mission files here: VFA-41 Mission Files
  16. After Action Report for last night's mission: http://vfa-41.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=269 If you are a carrier pilot (or want to become one), and this kind of coordinated mission flying appeals to you, take a look at what the Black Aces have going on. US time zones. Weekly missions on Sunday nights. "You don't have to be an expert pilot. You just have to want to fly."
