OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)
Baldrick33 replied to nikoel's topic in Virtual Reality
Everything else I have multiple options for (e.g. FPS display) and I can select the option . I simply have off as the only option for frame rate throttling. -
OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)

I have tried it with motion reprojection disabled but I never get an option for frame rate throttling - it just shows off as an option. -
investigating Large performance drop in VR after updating to 2.8
Baldrick33 replied to some1's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I can't get my head around the rationale for promoting the current open beta to stable. Other than getting flack from people upgrading to the BS3 and not being able to run it on stable. 2.8 is a big update with time needed to fix issues and optimise. I was more than very surprised at the announcement it was being pushed to stable already, -
DCS: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB Mk VI Discussion
Baldrick33 replied to msalama's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
Ideally you need an axis for the brake (the Warthog stick only has a digital lever which acts as a button). Otherwise you need to tap the lever to stop it from nosing over on full braking power. My solution was to use the lever as a modifier and assign the Y axis to the wheel brakes with modifier. Then use saturation or deadzone at 50 (I can't recall which) to limit it to the last half of travel (so centred the brakes are off, full back for full brakes). I found it much easier to taxi this way and for progressive braking on landing. Land, press lever and now use the brakes to steer by pulling back on the stick. Taxi, get rolling and press the lever for normal pitch and roll to take off. I also added the X axis to an unused camera control when the modifier is pressed so I didn't inadvertently add roll when applying the brakes. -
It has been a while since I used the Steam version of DCS (I transferred to standalone some time ago) but I assume it works like other Steam products and you can enable beta under properties (right click the game in the library and click on Properties) You should see a beta option in the left hand column, click on that and you can select beta from the drop down. Should you wish to use open beta I would recommend backing up your Saved Games\DCS\Config folder just to be safe. If you get a new Saved Games\DCS.Openbeta folder after converting then you can copy your config folder to this one. I cannot recall if you get two separate folders (I know I do for standalone) There is a wealth of knowledge of DCS installations on here so pretty much any problems you might encounter I am sure will be promptly answered.

is DCS a Ship Simulator and weapons systems Simulator only ?
Baldrick33 replied to GOZR's topic in DCS Core Wish List
These options have been buried in text files in racing sim titles for a similar time. There are mods for several of them to provide a GUI to edit them. I get the impression that for the vast majority the defaults work just fine. Head physics can become a bit of a rabbit hole of permutations and there is always the risk in VR that changes will cause severe nausea. Maybe that is why some developers have been happy to keep it out of the GUI and left for users to experiment with text files at their own risk. I imagine some users will want even greater g force effects so the slider would need to go up to a "what were they thinking allowing this" value! -
is DCS a Ship Simulator and weapons systems Simulator only ?
Baldrick33 replied to GOZR's topic in DCS Core Wish List
For me any simulated head movement in VR is a no, it just feels like bad tracking, I need a 1:1 relationship with my head movement. That said I can happily use vr neck saver, as it the variation is outside of my normal view. Simulated “head wobble” is another matter. Do we see the world moving or the cockpit moving when dealing with bumps? Our eyes are pretty good at remaining fixed on a point even if we are being shaken around. Personally I prefer the cockpit movement or shake rather than the scenery being moved around a fixed cockpit, the latter is like a fixed camera. Most race sims provide a slider to have any value in between world and cockpit movement (although typically default to cockpit movement). I am not sure if a world movement type solution would help in flight sims, the cockpit shaking seems to work fine for me but that is how I choose to run race sims so that may just be my preference. This is a pretty old post but suggests there are some tweaking of g force options for head movement: -
is DCS a Ship Simulator and weapons systems Simulator only ?
Baldrick33 replied to GOZR's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Using VR, head movement by G forces is something I always make sure is turned off in race & flight sims. The disconnect between my head and the virtual head just feels horrible. It is why these things are options. As has been stated several times in this thread the way we feel sims can be very personal regardless of real world experience and hence some some sims work better than others for different people. It is much the same with steering wheel FFB settings and the zillions of "perfect" settings that are completely different. -
[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
Baldrick33 replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
First time I ran it I got an Index out of range or similar error and no feedback. On checking I noted the simshaker.lua had not been updated. I had previously tried to add the Ka-50_3 manually like other mods, so I guess I may have taken ownership of this file. I renamed simshaker.lua and ran the installer again and chose repair. This updated simshaker.lua to the new one and it worked with the BS3. Just a heads up for anyone who may have tried to add it themselves. Thank @f4l0 for such a speedy update. -
investigating Large performance drop in VR after updating to 2.8
Baldrick33 replied to some1's topic in Game Performance Bugs
If I check frame times I do see an increase (therefore, a performance decrease) That said most of what I do is pretty lightweight such that I am GPU limited to 45 fps as I use reprojection. So frankly I don't notice any increase in CPU frame time and in terms of usage I see no difference and am probably not alone. So I can understand why some might feedback no apparent performance loss. Of course the increase in frame time is key and like you say is almost definitely happening across the user base. -
Yet another update to DCS 2.8 Open Beta, but what about the stable?
Baldrick33 replied to ac5's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Each iteration of Open Beta should get closer to being ready for a stable release. It would make no sense to promote the earlier versions of 2.8.x to Stable. You can backup your Saved Games DCS folders just in case. If you have enough disk space you can have both installed. You can also run one version trimmed down to just one aircraft and map if you wish. -

Baldrick33 replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I believe not considering @f4l0 just stated he is starting work on it above. -
It isn't that unusual. For example there were no Stable versions of 2.7.4 2.7.8 2.7.12 2.7.15 (current version is 2.7.18) Stable should only ever be updated when considered ready.

VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle Mode Dial Function
Baldrick33 replied to Baldrick33's topic in VIRPIL Controls
Thanks. I think I get it. Each of the 5 points of the rotary dial are used as shift modes (S1-S5) and these modes can be applied to any switch and button. By default the shift modes are only assigned to the 6 momentary buttons but could be assigned to any button or hat on the throttle (and any button on a Virpil device daisy chained to the throttle if I understand it) -

Yet another update to DCS 2.8 Open Beta, but what about the stable?
Baldrick33 replied to ac5's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Agreed, though I believe the Open Beta community are pretty good at sorting some of the wheat from the chaff to help focus the issues. Inevitably there will a lot of white noise in an Open Beta group, it just depends how the developers feel they get value from it. I have witnessed other developers melt down when trying to deal with such a wide, diverse (and sometimes hostile) group directly, there are many factors. -
Yet another update to DCS 2.8 Open Beta, but what about the stable?
Baldrick33 replied to ac5's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Sometimes issues aren't easily repeatable. They can be the hardest to track down and the easiest to dismiss as a one off due to someone having a rogue PC. They aren't so hard to dismiss if a number of people get it too. I have been in both open and closed betas. I think it is just what works for the developer. -
Yet another update to DCS 2.8 Open Beta, but what about the stable?
Baldrick33 replied to ac5's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I think it is very useful in getting consensus of issues. There is some very good feedback from a relative few whilst many of us (myself included) may not be acting as testers but nonetheless provide valuable albeit infrequent feedback. Even if the initial feedback is vague, the community often chips in with more detailed analysis to help and speed up the process. Personally I have both Stable and Open Beta installed but almost exclusively run Open Beta. Stable is there "just in case" Open Beta goes bad but I can't remember the last time I reverted to Stable. I have had far more problems with hardware and driver updates than I have had with DCS Open Beta but that maybe just me. -
solved Skhval aiming not working since updating to 2.8.1 and BS3
Baldrick33 replied to advancedme's topic in Bugs and Problems
Intriguing. I have both modules and the old one I can move the SHKVAL around with either keys, buttons or axes assigned. -
This maybe a dumb question but I have struggled to find exactly what the Mode Dial controls. Does it allow multiple controls to be assigned to all throttle (and connected device) switches and axes or is it limited to the six customisable momentary buttons?

Yet another update to DCS 2.8 Open Beta, but what about the stable?
Baldrick33 replied to ac5's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Absolutely. It beggars belief to think anyone would want the first beta release of a significant upgrade automatically promoted to Stable. The process is to get it to a point where it is deemed ready to be considered stable, as many iterations of builds that takes. -

Baldrick33 replied to ac5's topic in DCS Core Wish List
From the DCS World website: The Open Beta version of Digital Combat Simulator World (DCS World) 2.7 is a free-to-play digital battlefield game and simulation environment. The "release" version will be available shortly after Open Beta testing is complete. The Open Beta is an optional version of DCS World that we use to first test new content and technologies before moving them to our release version.
