How to accelerate to Mach 2? Is there a recommand method?
Spurts replied to YATEIFEI's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I'm actually doing tests right now of fighters in the "F-4" configuration of 4 Fox1 missiles and 4 Fox2 missiles. The F-14A can rapidly exceed Mach 2.0 9 minutes from brake release using the Rutowski profile (climb, dive, level at 36,000) starting with the two drop tank and releasing them when empty (why do you have to burn almost 3,000lb of internal fuel before the drop tanks are actually empty?) but the poor TSFC of the F-14A, 2.74 in AB IIRC, means you run out of gas shortly. I was down to 2,000lb remaining 12.25 minutes from brake release which lasted me another 25 min at econ settings, having ultimately reached a speed of 2.22M. I only spent 90 sec above 2.2M. The F-15C is another story. Taking off with three bags of fuel and using the Rutowski profile I accelerated through 1.8M before emptying the bags 13 minutes into the flight, dropping them, then accelerating past M2 30sec later ultimately reaching M2.3 and I didn't get to 2,000lb remaining until 20.25min after brake release. a full 5 min was spent above 2.2M Trying to do the test in the F-14B but the game keeps crashing. Did the test in the Su-27 though. Crossed M2 at 9.75min, crossed M2.2 at 11min, was down to 1,000kg fuel at 14.25min doing 2.3M. The F-4E topped out at 1.9M by 18 min and held that for 4 min before reaching 2,000lb remaining. -
Yes, the plane was tested to 12G by Grumman, and above a certain AoA the wing stalls and the body is doing the lifting so the risk of wings snapping goes away. 18G may be possible, but you just shattered your INS and maybe some other systems too. As to the blackout, it does seem like the blackout model assumes you never exceed 9 G. The current model is still better than the previous one

F14B and A real standard climb, cruise and descent speeds ?
Spurts replied to Kobal's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
8.5 is cruise, 10 is endurance -

No no, I was wondering if 15 units was L/D max for the landing configuration. But 17 or higher is more likely. Sorry. I just noticed you were referencing an earlier post. Yes I was corrected on max conserve aoa. -

Being at an AoA higher than L/D presents handling issues -

Thanks for the correction @sLYFa I would have thought approach would be max L/D, or maybe that is for the landing config which is NOT cruise config. -
Any one else getting a CTD when jumping into the F-14? So far B on single player custom missions with plane set to client has crashed across several missions including ones made post update.

No, 8.5 is max range, not max conserve. Max conserve is the 15 unit marker and requires manual holding up of the maneuver flaps. You do not "Cruise" in max conserve (minimum fuel flow), that is for loitering over an area. -

max range cruise is going to be 0.74M for a clean jet and 0.72M for a dirty jet, small window, and the altitude is going to be whatever gives you cruise AoA but will typically be between 30,000 and 34,000ft. Much higher than that and you honestly get too low of an IAS. The goal is to stay at speed where the sweep is still full forward to get best L/D. The throttle setting is whatever you need to hold there but should be 2400-2800pph per engine. I took a 105% max weight F-14B 1,000nm across the Marianas map (from a "dead" carrier to a functioning carrier) and still had 5,000lb of fuel remaining when I overflew the landing carrier at cruise alts (no descent was made until the 1,000nm was finished). -
F-14A use of manual override for forward sweep observations
Spurts replied to captain_dalan's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I would love to see the difference at say 36,000ft, but that is consistent with my low altitude testing as well. -
CMs in DCS are a % chance. They are not actual objects to effect doppler gates or anything.

if you have a wingman on Link 4 you can see each others jamming lines and fire home on jam using the triangulated distance

Mine came last week. The first order was lost so they reshipped

funny, my favorite thing to do is SAM hunting with bombs. Okay okay, that only works against the SA-10 and a few other older systems. SA-11s eat my lunch when I try. Also, why is everyone misspelling "Phun to Phly"? I jest. Show me another module where you can carry 22 bombs and 8 AAMs. This module is extremely "Phun"

I have been loving the new Jester features. Mid mission fuel checks, giving me navigation cues while I am doing low level runs through a mountain pass, and my favorite was right on my first flight. Load up a hot start on the ground and as soon as I start taxiing I hear "Oh man, I've been looking forward to this." Me too, buddy, me too. Does he lose sight of bandits more that he did in the Tomcat? yes, but so do I because there isn't a bubble canopy.

Any news on the A6 AI that was shown off in-game over a year ago?

How much more would you pay to have the BN AI voiced by DeFoe? -
Pretty sure the module will arrive before the vinyl

Nothing yet for me. New Hampshire USA

This was definitely me on release. The funny thing is that now one of my favorite things to do in BFM is troll Hornet by flying slow at high AoA and doing it better than them. I got comfortable with the Rudders, then comfortable with cross control stalls, then comfortable with safe use of the big flaps. The Tomcat gives a pilot a lot of options.
-
What does that actually do, I have yet to feel like it's needed.

Tomcat is much harder to do aerial refueling than hornet

Try the Harrier where the probe is 90 degrees to your left. -
There was a statement of "We saw everything in the sky, no matter what it was made of" that very much indicates seeing stealth aircraft. Given that it could see a tanker with trailing fighters at longer range than the APG-71 could...

Oh yeah, I forgot about that bug. Can't it end up adding like 20,000lb to your weight?
