  1. Check out the aerobatics online server. No weapons, but lots of folks trying their hand at formation flying. Good place to hang out and eventually find other pilots to fly with.
  2. Is sustained level flight required at the top? Because I just did 103,000 feet in 6 min 45 sec. ;) It was rather ballistic though
  3. I has a similar problem after the latest update. My Harrier and supercarrier disappeared. I run standalone install for open beta, but I had just recently played the release version on steam. For some reason I wondered if being logged into DCS through steam was causing my problem with the OB update. When I logged out of DCS on steam, I was able to successfully install my Openbeta update. If you dont use a steam installation, try logging out and back in of DCS.
  4. I just got a similar issue with todays update. My harrier and SC modules have been disabled. First try said it couldnt move a harrier dll, and second install try said something about a virus.
  5. In real life, Haze is just another weather variable. There is no need to make it more prominent as Cabzi suggests. Baking in even more would be like requiring that all weather conditions in DCS include overcast clouds. What would make sense is to make haze another slider that you could adjust. It’s been a while since I’ve flown a plane, but I have flown in CAVU conditions. While nothing is truly unlimited, 100 mile visibilities at a few thousand feet altitude can and do happen. There are also days where the haze level actually does interfere with getting a clear view of the horizon. In fact the horizon sometimes basically is gone, where flight over water can essentially become instrument conditions despite 10 mile viz
  6. Found the problem. It was a bit embarrasing really. The simplified engine management optiin was turned on... I had turned it on to see if it would prevent flameouts at speed. It did not, so I forgot about it and forgot to turn it off. Apparently all it does is let the engine continue running at 0g, and inverted. It also lets you continue running after depleting fuel. What may be a bug however, is that it is able to override the “no infinite fuel” option on MP servers. Quite the exploit! Technically, simplified engine management is not infinite fuel (fuel is consumed at normal rates), but it has the same net effect.
  7. I thought it was impossible to fly inverted in the mig, correct? I flew around inverted for about 5 min. Does that clue set off any ideas?
  8. I have noticed extremely high levels of haze, perhaps believable if it was in Los Angeles. Very washed out experience now mid day. Haze level does not change according to altitude either. That said, your visibility looks much better than mine. My settings are maxed out for visiblity and preload radius. By the way, what's up with the waves on the sea in that picture... wow.
  9. Is this bug specific to the Mig 21, or are other modules suffering from this as well? Maybe it's a greater DCS problem? I seem to recall this smokey afterburner behavior started several patches ago.
  10. I should have added, yes indeed rossmum, it may be associated with some weird variable. I say this because in fact, some of the flights I did for testing end up with engine shutdown upon fuel depletion. Why only some flights worked properly, while others didn't has not come to me yet.
  11. This is getting to be a proper mystery! I asked a few discord friends, and they are not getting this problem either. Yet today, I was able to replicate it on instant action, on a clean mission editor mission (only one mig), and flew around Aerobatics Online server for 20 minutes or so without any fuel left at all. So it seems that my problem is somehow specific to me. I only have one mod installed (the Edge 540), but then again so do my discord friends, and they don't report this problem. I have no idea what else could be causing this problem, so if anybody has any ideas, I would appreciate them. Running out of fuel is extremely important in the Mig21, because usually all my flights end up as dead stick landings...it's such a huge part of the fun:P By the way, I did a repair on my DCS install and it still has this problem. I also re-re verified that my "infinite fuel" check box is not checked off. I've included some track files. I started the mission editor mission with about 8 percent fuel. Fuel does not run out.trk Fuel does not run out-mission editor.trk
  12. Is the insane level of haze considered part of the general lighting issues with the latest patches? It seems visibility is about 10 miles. I havent seen any discussion about the atmospheric haze by itself (maybe I missed it?). On a clear day with my visibility set at “ultra” I could make out the sea from Kutaisi two patches ago.
  13. Hmmm. I noticed this in the Caucasus instant action take off mission. I’ll keep trying and incoude a track if I still see it.
  14. The Mig keeps running indefinitely after running out of fuel. This bug was evident not only in the current DCS patch that will live in infamy, but also in the previous patch (which I also thought would live in infamy). This occurs with the infinite fuel option turned off, and on either SP or MP missions.
  15. The nosecone moves downward (off center) when you retract gear. The movement off center is directly tied to the gear retraction animation. It’s pretty evident visually, and happens in all the situations I tried, but let me know if a trackfile is needed.
  16. I noticed the same. It’s not just the nose gear though, the main gear will still clip into the ground when turning; especially with the weight of wing tanks. That said, the Mig21 looks so good sitting properly on its wheels. I think this results in a realistic angle of attack on takeoff which makes rotation much more predictable.
  17. Ever since the two updates ago, the deck on the SC appears to be wet when it’s not raining (shiny). Anybody else notice this?
  18. The wheel drag may be a good point. Yesterday I was flying, and I had some moments while taxiing where the brakes felt like they were applied. It actually needed higher thrust than usual to start and stay moving. But then it mysteriously went back to normal. It almost seemed like a possible bug.
  19. I would agree that the gear is feeling odd at the moment. But even though it’s challenging to aerobrake, as of late it seems it’s actually easier than in previous builds. It seems to respond best to aerobraking if it is trimmed to being hands off at the round-out. I have yet to experiment much, but being slightly nose-up trim on short approach could be helpful.
  20. Fast forward to 11:30 to see nose wheel shimmy. I think DCS is simulating shimmy naturally, but the simulation is not capable of doing so with complete fidelity. I would imagine this is a very complex phenomenon that doesnt lend itself well high fidelity simulation, unless it was a purpose built software. The frequency in real life would get much higher before it would develop to the amplitude seen in the dcs mig21. A shredded tire would be the least of ones concerns if it swung out this far, lol
  21. This seems to me like it’s on purpose, with the colors generally reflecting the tone of the ground being lit up by the sun. Sometimes I notice the color tones change slightly depending on the terrain. The only problem is that sometime, like in the hangar, it applies the color cast in situations where it doesn’t make sense (or at least it seems too intense). I like the idea of the aircraft being “lit up” by reflected light from the ground, it just seems like its a low resolution function right now. Maybe that’s to save processing power.
  22. Noticed the same thing.
  23. I believe german dials used phosphorescent paints (not radioactive) instead of radium paint (radioactive). The difference being phosphor paints need to be exposed to light to work. They also can glow when exposed to UV light. The lume on many modern watches use phosphorescence principle. The Seiko automatic watches have pretty bright lume. In fact it doesnt need to be dark to see their glow. If it’s sunny out, all you have to do is walk into a shaded area...it doesnt have to be a dark room.
