The Tomcat. Despite only 8 GB RAM, the Tomcat runs smoothly. Remember I was really afraid to purchase, with all the stuff going on. Expected a slideshow .... Only one issue: PLEASE! Can you please modify digits on altimeter to clear bright white? I know that grey old look is authentic, but impossible read without zooming in very close. At least as an option in menu for whiter digits? :joystick: Setting up a basic mission A2A target practice to brush up my old brain, with new keyboard settings. and cold start I added a small ship group for navigation practice and low pass fun over carrier. In all missions I could not find target. Flying around ,but no enemy. Finally I let my F14 stay cold and dark, while watching enemy F2. The culprit was my decorative ship group. Suddenly missile contrails showed up BVR in the direction of fleet..... :doh:

Thanks to DCS for giving us a free trial period. First couple of flights was free flight Nevada. Enjoyed it. This could be a favorite plane- But then the module deteriorated. 3 seconds stutter and CTD. Especially instant flight takeoff selection. Did a few DCS repair, but did not help. I tried with sliders left, and most effects turned off. Question: The panel is very blurry. I know it is an easy fix, as the same problem occurred with Mirage. If I remember correct it was deffered shader? But there is no such selection now. Toying around with MSAA and SAA did not help. I got a decent PC, but with only 8GB RAM. I know this is low. But F-16 did ran fine for a while. Back to F14 Tomcat. Despite a large aircraft with much going on, it runs smoothly! :thumbup:

Getting worse first. CTD when at the end of loading. Takes forever. Playing solitaire on my pad while waiting for the crash. It even crashed to black screen. Had to turn off PC to reset. Now I lowered preload radius to very low, and stopped several tasks in manager. It works ok now. But I wish I could reset it back a week ago, when I purchased it. I did run with higher preload radius and chrome sites running in the background. :music_whistling:

Except with some stutter in Nevada - F14 is a great experience. Now I got CTD after 10 minutes - both in Nevada and W2.5. I tried to lower pre load scenery. Lower slides, does not help. Remember to solve problems with Normandie and Nevada., it helped to delete config, and let it build a new. I am not able to find the config again. Checked documents and app data. The config in the program does not help. The full screen is distorted, even with standard 1.7777 ratio. :(

Agree. But have no idea on what radial I am at. If I could turn the course knob to center the deviation bar and check TO FROM indication and continue around 180`to see it flip around . Anyway.... flying on VOR radials I do in P3d with A2A aircraft. No reason to do it in DCS. Flying between airports, using TACAN as NDB/ADF is good enough for me. :pilotfly:

I know how VOR works. What puzzles me is the deviation bar arrow points back (FROM). The range should then increase - but I am flying towards it. I will try to figure out how to turn the course needle to center, and work from there. For now I use it as NDB (ADF) and it is good enough for my navigation. :thumbup:

Yes it works. Short range (40nm) and erratic. Not sure how the lower display works. Deviation bar make no sense. At some point we need an operation manual. But it is still beta - cant complain. This is my all time favorite aircraft. Can easily be my final module. No need for more :pilotfly::pilotfly::pilotfly::thumbup:

Thanks. Not really a mission. I picked a TACAN from F10. Should be less than 10 min flight.

Jester picks a TACAN station. I activate switch on right panel. - But both analog and bottom display are not displaying course or range. No doubt I miss something. - And yes I did run through the nav tutorial :music_whistling:

I have noticed that spoilers are active - if takeoff is selected as instant action. Starting cold dark, spoilers are not activated. They work only as aileron. What switch did I miss in the start procedure? :joystick:

Forget your 10 remaining activation. PC crash after transport . changed hardware. Not able to activate. Tried several times to use remaining activation. But stuck at 10 remaining. Hit retry several times. Uninstalled and reinstalled World 2.5. Wrong password message at login. Following link at email - ends with Authorization OK. DCS starts at basic - no multiplayer. Next step is to create a ticket support. Wasted time to paste in all purchase and activation codes. Hitting next - and the system demands a fault report log. :( Thats it. Well - had my my moments with DCS. Fond memories of the first KA-50 - and later the A-10. Favorites was P-51 and Mirage. Normandie and HU1 Bell most disappoint. Moving on with civilian P3dv4.5 and A2A aircraft. :joystick:

After a PC crash -most hardware replaced. Not able to activate or deactivate modules. Is it a short way to fix this? ............................... The support ticket system sucks. Wasted hours to get all error reports that should be added. They are to big - exceeding limit. And not able send. Is the DCS fun? - Not - just frustrating....

Only way to deactivate is to search through the bin and find my old components and repair the motherboard. DCS been bugged for decades. Only that worked flawlessly was the original KA-50. Starting to get fed up - wasted hours through the torrent days and up to now.... Copy and paste error message Unable to deactivate the product license due to significant changes of the computer hardware configuration. Only valid licenses can be deactivated. To obtain an error report and send it to product technical support, click the corresponding button.

No - The motherboard did not survive the transport. Monitor black. None of old components was compatible. In war and hobby - money does not matter. With eyes closed, I purchased some decent stuff... I will look into it. If it works, maybe a F-14 will hit my SSD....

All hardware upgrade. Running world 2.5 beta. I have to step through all modules for activation each time I start. Successful - but always 8 left. I have tried several aircraft - In Nevada and other maps. Training - free flights -- hitting F1 and I am not getting into cockpit. External view works fine also AI aircraft :cry:

I have been burned many times on jumping straight to an update on first day. Now I have decided to wait for dust to settle down, preferably with a few patches. You guys with experience on 2.5 installing procedures. Should I uninstall something? Install from Caucasus 1.5? Will it merge with Normandy/Nevada? Will 1.5 be automatically deleted? Guess the modules will install as usual - auto find s/n. Other issues I should be aware of and avoid? :smartass:

Wrong. My most other used aircraft Mirage and Mustang have no issues in replay. And I always watch the replay after a flight. Spitfire did have crash after a couple of minutes flight, but seems OK now. F-5 and other aircraft seems OK, but have just logged a few hours of flight Viggen - if lucky - may barely survive a takeoff, before hitting the dirt. But usually it is stuck in the grass after a minute taxiing. No doubt an awkward way to make replay with flight control deflections, but other manufactures did something right. :pilotfly:

THANKS! I bit disappointing that replay issue is not given priority this time. Watching replay is important to me, both as entertainment and a learning tool.

Thanks! Now I ran into a strange problem. Picking B4 (my IAP for landing) the heading bug send me far off into ocean miles away. Picking B5 (L1) the heading bug is steady 10 deg off to left - keeps me chasing a ghost. Is it me? (Best bet) Or a bug?

Messing up while flying I want to go home, or fly back to a previous waypoint. -but I am unable to pick a different B. It is stuck on next B. Probably a quick procedure, but not able to find it :book: THANKS! :joystick:

Sorry - not 100% agree. :) It takes time to enter all digits in Mirage INS coordination.(Admit I am very slow) If you add authentic Align time you end up close to 15 minutes. Laser gyros, accelerators IRU do drift - but feels more accurate due to constant update from DME. And a guess for old days 60 -70 LORAN C. In wartime VOR and LORAN C can be switched off. My guess as neutral (not NATO member) country, Sweden only option was to use visual and RA correction for INS.

As part of troubleshooting - I did not set RADAR mode to NAV until lined up on runway. According to procedure this will calibrate compass heading. It did not help. Stuck on grass after a few meters of taxing.
