DCS more CPU or GPU intensive?
zero replied to SierraFox's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
My feeling is that DCS is running in the old M$ sim way. Everything is pushed through the CPU, leaving little workload to GPU for graphic effects. You could install a very decent Graphic card, but it did not help on fps. My own PC is mediocre, but run OK on other sims with higher graphic settings (texture, light, shadow). Seems that GPU takes care of the heavy graphics, leaving the old worn CPU to do the calculating tasks. -
A kind of Buyers Guide. Often you get the answer when reporting an issue: "What to expect for pre -Alpha product". Other sim publishers are selling pre beta products at lower price. You do not find that clue in the DCS world. My contribution: RAZBAM - Mirage 2000C Slightly post beta. Still some issues, but great fun and no frustration in the stable 1.5 world. Flies right out the box with no extra tinkering to make it work. Recommended. Please add your own post beta recommendations.

Are we players saying farewell to the MiG-15 and the Sabre?!
zero replied to Alpenwolf's topic in Multiplayer
Adding a couple of concrete runways in Normandy.. You can make "what if" scenarios of WWIII Warsaw Pact breakthrough Fulda gap and closing on France. Early with Migs and Sabres. More plausible in the 80`es with most of other jets and choppers. -
No doubt. Do not spoil a good argument with fake news :D

MP stutters, make it difficult to taxi and TO. Once airborne, I have difficulties to find where the action is (My fault). Love the low pass and start sound from other players. :D For now, I run my own single player dogfights. :joystick:

Love to see the P-38. But we do not need another pre-alpha module release at full price. Manhours are limited. When other modules are past beta, we can start dreaming.

:poster_oops: Forgot to thick off "INS alignment" box. (Not patient to wait for complete procedure)

Not aware of that. Will check.

Entered coordinates for an airport (65nm). The needle was constantly drifting left. At 15nm I was circling. The X did not show up (Less 10nm). Works OK in 1.5. Used F10 to locate airport. 13nm off. 1. Me - not programming correctly? 2. M2000C bug? 3. Nevada bug? :joystick:

I use the switches on the dashboard. Discovered that continue turning clockwise, the lights dim. It helps.

Try to remember the attitude when sitting on the ground. Get the same attitude when passing the fence. Wait for the flare until the runway raises over your ears. I did had the same issue myself, left wingtip dragging the ground during rollout. OK now.

+1 IMO ED should slow down on releases. Take time to develop them to at least beta first. Highest priority should be given to already known issues to World 2.x and Spitfire. Asset Pack can wait.

Agree that there is an imbalance in DM Player aircraft/AI aircraft. This is frustrating. You are doing well in dogfights if you manage to get them smoke as you do. Not spotting aircraft can be more realistic than we imagine. The camouflage against terrain is very effective according to real pilots. But to be honest I am just guessing if DCS is realistic. Real dogfights was a minute full action, then no aircraft in sight. You need plenty of aircraft to have a furball. Alone, lost your formation, without vectoring to new target you will fly for hours with no action. A victory was to disperse enemy formations, not necessary kills. There are many hours flying per kills in real life. Simulating 100% we all must admit is boring. Hit escape and fly again is the only option for fun and excitement.

Even antique Microprose B-17 QoS (Amiga) got better DM than this. :) Why not copy the DM from Tupolev bombers. Impossible to shoot down. Survives even Sidewinder hits.

Converting Nevada to WWII Africa should not be difficult. Maybe ED should coop with ORBX to create scenery/maps? Most experienced company.

1 If you can accept Spitfire IX earlier , you can recreate dogfights Spitfire vs Bf109 in Southern England area. 1940 -1941. 2. Ignore Allied airfields in Normandy. Recreate ground attacks against transport with some dogfights. Remember that Luftwaffe was non existent close to D-Day. Spring 1944. We need Allied light bombers such as B-25 to spice up 3. Eight AirForce B-17 high altitude (over flight level 30). formations with P-51 escorts. Inbound Germany. One reason was to attract German fighters and decimate them. Fierce dogfights P-51 vs Dora. Spitfire LF (low flight) does not belong up here. 4. Single B-17 stragglers returning to England in all altitudes. Protect them or shoot them down. (1943 early 1944). 5. Post D-day. Sorry no dogfights (Maybe up in north east) Hurtgen/Ardennes. Ground attack Caen (conquered august) supply and reinforcements coming from east. Clean up Falais pocket :pilotfly:

I do not use deferred shading. Found out how to change time in Mission Editor. Problem solved .

Found it... Only necessary to add time in briefing..

In Nevada I have to change hour to evening or morning (Mirage HUD visibility) Single aircraft (player) - start from ramp. Setting the same time in both waypoint start and briefing start - saved with aircraft icon blue. Starting the mission, there is no aircraft - just the map with no icon? Tried the manual - not much help. :helpsmilie:

Tried mission Editor. HUD not readable. Too bright light. Setting hours to late evening or morning the aircraft do not show up. Solutions for flying Mirage in Nevada - (Mission Editor? :helpsmilie:

Among updates and some frustration, )I am always able to tweak and continue flying. :pilotfly: In hangar: KA-50 my first love. Absolutely a great experience in learning to hover and land. Never updated to newer versions. Too bad. missed the train with the cheap update. A10C. Could not sleep waiting for this. Fantastic experience. Unfortunately always have to start with basic learning lessons in the later years. Huey. Expected to be my new KA-50. After a week I put in the hangar, and never looked back. F-86 Sabre. . I do not why- but I was disappointed. A kind of nostalgic VHS player I hoped to find interesting. On Tarmac -fueled My brain can barely operate 4 aircraft without refresh procedures: P-51. Purchased many years ago. Blew off dust this spring. No doubt the WWII fighter I can handle best. Dora. Wanted to try the best German fighter. Great plane. Very easy on procedures. Need more taxi practice to be happy. Spitfire. My most used aircraft at the moment. Trying to be a friend with her. No way to get the Hun in the sight. But able to land now. Progress! Mirage 2000C. My favorite. I have the good old feeling as with Jane`s F-15. When I need a break from 3 point landing attempts, and using eyeball to find target, I jump into this aircraft. Much simpler weapon system than A10, there is no need to refresh the manual. Radar lock and fire to get a kill. Usually my last aircraft flight before going to bed. Just to confirm I am a great pilot! Future: I picked up BF-109 in the bundle purchase with Spitfire. No urge to try it. More than enough with 3 WWII fighters to polish my skills. F-5. Could be a supplement to Mirage. On my wishlist, but never purchase at full price. That is all. No other aircraft in store or near future releases I desire. :joystick:

. Not scanning - I am trying to avoid scan. That is the point. First to check max speed for gear down and flap, and speed of needle movement. Next: Just a quick split second glance to confirm I am between 100 and 120. And a final confirm at 100 over threshold. Last split second glance on instrument is vertical speed prior to touchdown. But that instrument is clear -no problem. Not checking instruments during approach is poor airman-ship. Flying slow and dirty, you are on reverse envelope. Adjust airspeed with pitch. Vertical speed with throttle. When settled with correct trim, I agree to concentrate on external view as priority 1. With a split second instrument confirm as priority 2.

We definitely need EzDok camera effects in DCS. I use it in A2A T-6 Texan (P3D). This effects makes P3D a much better sim than DCS. Really a sandbox to build own effects. Vibration frequency based on speed. Bumps getting sharper during takeoff run. Small details as programming weight of your head. Feel the slight yaw move as you use pedals, and head between legs in a hard landing. Managed to convert EzDok from FSX to P3D. Someone willing to point a gun at EzDok staff and force them to make it work on DCS? Please? :D
