He may be. When the TGP isn’t SOI, you can still move the cursor (don’t know how, but...) and when you do it is VERY quick to move and not smooth at all. Also, the cursor motion changes with zoom. It is very coarse when zoomed out, and moves slower when zoomed in. Try zooming in and see if it improves. Good luck!

Also, (and you probably thought of this), you have to make sure to hit ENT for Lat, Long, and (I think) elevation in first two minutes of INS alignment. If you don’t, you’ll have datalink problems.

Anyone else getting weird weapons malfunctions lately?
USAF-Falcon87 replied to USAF-Falcon87's topic in Weapon Bugs
I’ll try, but it’s very intermittent. It has happened to our group in Harrier, Hornet, and Viper. Choosing “SELECT ROLE” and swapping to a new tail USUALLY seems to fix it. -
To quote that great philosopher, Ted “Theodore” Logan, “strange things are afoot at the Circle K.” See my post. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=267985

My gaming squadron runs the open beta and we are on the current build. Last night several of us had a similar problem that we had never seen before. It started with me in the Harrier, and no matter what I did, I couldn’t get a Maverick to fire. After fiddling with it for a while, I gave up and changed to a different slot, and it worked fine. Later the same thing happened to a squad mate in a Hornet—the couldn’t get a weapon to activate until he swapped slots. A couple of other guys also had weird gremlins which required a new airplane to fix. This is still too intermittent to file as a bug, but I was just wondering if anyone else has been seeing this as well. We will continue to watch for it and will file as appropriate.

Is it possible to aim the TPOD at a point on the ground and create a waypoint? Seems like if you can manually type on in, there ought to be some way to get the aiming data from the TPOD to a waypoint. Any help appreciated! Ric

Game crash - doesnt respond to menu commands
USAF-Falcon87 replied to fullwoody's topic in Mission Editor Bugs
I have exact same problem. If I try to add SOME templates (not all--my SAM templates seem to work, my carrier template does not), the game will not let me leave mission editor. Have to three-finger-salute it to kill the game and start over. -
Is there a way (using scripting, I am guessing) to change the elevation of the smoke effect? For instance, if I am building an oil field, I would like to have flame/smoke at the top of some of the structures, but with the stock effect the smoke originates at ground level (inside the building) instead of the top of a smokestack. Is there a parameter somewhere I could adjust with code to make the smoke "hover" a given distance above the ground? Thanks, Ric

Alerax's LSO AI Script
USAF-Falcon87 replied to Alerax's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Does this work with 2.5.6 open beta? Can't get it to work, and that's the only thing I can think of as to why it might not be working. -
JSOW Weapon Qualification Mission
USAF-Falcon87 replied to USAF-Falcon87's topic in Missions and Campaigns
No, which is why I said they keep getting shot down. Great plan, except the mission is the "Weapon Qualification - JSOW" mission, in which you are given JSOWs to attack the assigned target, which happens to be an SA-10. If I were choosing weapons for a SAM, I'd choose a HARM, which is designed for that, but that's not the option. Since the module creators put this as a mission, it seems reasonable that there must be a way to complete it. So either a) there are techniques, tactics, or practices I'm not using or 2) the mission is bugged. What I am looking for is someone who has actually completed the mission to provide some advice. -
OK, I give up. My friends and I have repeatedly tried the "Weapon Qualification -- JSOW" mission that comes with the Hornet. The SA-10 keeps shooting down the pigs before they can get even close. Any recommendations on how to get them past the Grumble? Thanks!

I don’t know if I’ve set something up wrong or if this is a bug. On two different missions I’ve tried (one I created, one downloaded from the DCS site), friendlies are showing up as hostiles to both my F-16 and friends in F/A -18s. This includes my OWNSHIP icon on the HSD in the F-16. Interrogating targets with IFF from the Viper (not sure abt -18 ) shows them as friendly, then icon goes back red. Anybody have an idea what is going on? Thanks
-
That would certainly work, but it just seems a bit clunky to do it that way. Curious how it works in the actual jet--no line to first point? Seems odd that the first point is just hanging out in space on the HSD.
-
Yeah, I realize that. That's why they got rid of it in the sim. Doesn't do anything to answer the question, though.
-
Since the new update that deleted "Steerpoint 0", there no longer seems to be a line from your origin to the first waypoint on the HSD. Is this by design, a bug, or something I'm just doing wrong? Thanks, Ric

Look, I know we all wanna be fighter pilots at heart, and those poor AI pilots have to sometime fly the bomber and airlift roles, but that’s no reason for them to be suicidal. But last night my group flew a bomber escort mission. The bombers that survived (we brought only half home—RIP, bots) flew all the way home to Mineralnye Vody—and promptly dived into the ground and crashed! Any idea why they would do that (other than that they couldn’t bear being bomber pilots? ;). )

Not a matter of “if” but “when”. :) The “which is better” debate is a silly one. That’s like saying, “which is a better tool—a hammer or a pair of pliers?” Depends on what you are doing. They are BOTH awesome aircraft. Listen to BuzzU—get ‘em both! The order you do so, well, that’s up to you!

Out of curiosity, do you have the TGP onboard? There is apparently a drag profile problem with it (mentioned on other threads) that makes takeoffs squirrelly with it onboard. I've found that adjusting my curve for the rudder helped a lot with it. Also, be sure to use NWS to 70, then cut it off, being GENTLE with the NWS inputs. Hope this helps! Ric

This is a LIE. We follow all rules all the time and don't you DARE tell my boss otherwise! ;)

What is the metal part on the left "eyebrow" the mask the RWR?
USAF-Falcon87 replied to nickos86's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Nope. It’s where you clip you headphone wires from your Walkman. -
The command you are looking for is MAN RANGE in the axis list. (Not sure exactly how it is spelled/listed, but that is the command.) I have it bound to a rotary control on my throttle. Works great!
