1. You're so much better at explaining things Moa, all of the porting from one core to another. My English lacks to much so I should shut up ;) IMHO, we're slowly getting there with the core based system, new code optimizations etc etc. This is a good step in the direction so it's easier to build such things as a Dedi-server.
2. Hm, It looks like either Dx or a game install issue - both which can propagate into the settings config folder. Have you tried to: 1. Rename "\Saved Games\DCS A-10C" to "DCS A-10C.old" and tested again? 2. Do the rename after a uninstall and full reinstall - before you start the DCS for the first time? Oh, and don't forget the Visual C++ 2008 it installs - remember to run a Windows Update after they have been installed. If the settings remain between installations, it can in some situations influence a new install as well.
3. No, not directly. I'm not from ED - so I cannot speak for them. Keep in mind - I represent only my own opinion, not ED. But I can speak from having (and still are) working with customers with similar (software) requirements. With dedicated servers - you need an audience and a customer base - just as with any other programs & apps. So if I already had a server app - and someone said that 'this is not working', I would ask, 'what isnt working? How can I solve it?'. 'Do we really have to recode it for a new platform?' However, moving from 1 platform (Win32) to Linux or other kernels - you realize that requires a bit of work, right? How much is that cost? Who will pay for it? As you noticed in the Newsletter, there are changes coming. I'm as curious as you wether we get a dedi server soon.
4. My bad, I didn't read up on what Moa responded to your initial post. Anyway - in general, no gui for a server process is better. As of with the DCS; There's been no pressing issues with the current version of DCS/FC which require such drastic measures. However, I (still) do agree with you - it's better to have a server core / multiplatform / comptability / scaleability / redundancy - if it's adding any real value. If it's a direct cost with little or no return - then I guess it would be natural to priritize other features which bring more value, customers & revenue. If I were in of a product in a similar situation, I would ask myself; Does moving the core to another platform bring any real value? - Does it solve some very core / otherwise big issues? Is it really required? - Will MYSERVER-product go from 'unstable' to 'stable'? - Whats the cost vs potenial increased customer base & revenue? - Will we gain ground vs other competitors? - How much should we change to bring 'enough' positive effects, with minimum effort, both now at short term as well as long term? Would you disagree to this aproach? :)
5. 1. Myth - 2. it's somewhat pointless in this debate anyway. Linux vs Windows debates - please find another forum for that. Stability (which matters) for the kind of services we're talking about here; Servers for the gaming community is more than stable enough on any plattform available today. DSC is not such a system which requires high availability & redundancy. ED currently developing for the Windows platform. Who knows if it'll change in the future, but I doubt it. Getting a GUI-less server core is good. A server which isn't affected by any whim ATI/Nvidia may come up with, nor system resources in use due to a graphics system which isn't in use on the server anyway. But you've noticed the news letter regarding the new core based system I hope. This is a step in the right direction. Bottom line - stay away from the Linux vs Windows, you're able to have a constructive debate without bringing in the 'random myths' out there. Thanks.
6. Check options, binding, sim/axis - it could be that freetrack has been assigned to z/x/y axis. Hm, but then again I'm not sure if LO has those options. I'm just tossing a suggestion in your direction. ;)
7. Hm, I've heard of similar issues previously - but then it was the ATI/Nvidia configuration was overriden by the user. Resetting all the graphics settings for the GPU helped.
8. I would have payed money for a standalone server, as well as all of the above. But then yet again, I'm nuts.
9. Copy & Paste; no, unfortunately not. Such a complex sim is built on 1000 of files, with thousands / million lines of code. See for yourself in your install directory. Much of the heritage of this series comes from the older FC / Lomac series. So through evolition it must be - or build it from scratch. Anyway, I can't say what ED is thinking or planning, thats ED's choice & strategy - but we can certainly try to influence them by asking them to please build a GUI less server, with a command interface. Meanwhile - I hope you have had a look at ServMan? :)
10. Threads merged.
11. I'm afraid I'm not of any good use then, Lomac outdates me. All I could suggest was to try another USB port.
12. Working in Windows & TrackIR UI? But not in DCS/FC/FSX/other? How about switching it to another USB port and trying again? Which FC/DCS product are you using? Which OS? Throw me a bone ;)
13. Yes, definitively - I was just recomending on what you can do today. What we want is of course something without GUI, all of us server administrators. ;) But ED cannot rebuild the game engine core in a whim like that - to be frank, time and resources, and they need to make money to stay in business. It's easy to see other priorites which is more important. Instead we're seeing things change as part of the evolution of the series. Meanwhile - you can choose between how to remote your server using RDP/VNC/Teamviewer and such products.
14. Or rather simplified; Air superiority. If you fighter jets need to go back to refuel, you'll alway be at risk. Only with total air superority you'll be safe from another jet. If you don't have total control over the airspace; To minimize the risk while ingressing / egressing - fly slow. Below 130 kph is higly recommended. Slower will make you harder to pick up (which is not real btw - but its a builtin factor in the DCS/FC series). Aspect is also a factor. However, you're never safe from a AI nor real pilot if they have identified your whereabouts. Moving out of the area is then the next trick - but you need to do it while they are not tracking you, neither by sensors nor visually. You're still at risk of getting pummeled before you can get out.
15. kamov, to bad there was just a few scenes at the end.
16. OT tip regarding youtube, use the YOUTUBE brackets around the ID for the movie, like this (remove the red dots I made to confuse the forum): [...YOUTUBE]NyTQl7NoyR8
17. Ai cheating is a result of simplification - otherwise AI cpu cycles would even slow your game down even more than today. Precious cpu cycles. It's a feature.
18. Been using VNC & Teamviewer for years, altough past years I've preffered TV over VNC, its response feels a bit better, feels like less latency. Both can be installed and wait for incoming requests. Just make sure you configure it in a secure manner, so only the people who are supposed to have access, has it.
19. The sim should pick up any new keyboard configuration from windows if you: 1. Properly configure the Windows Control panel, Keyboard layout & language options. We may get into details of that later, if required. 2. Reset any previously saved Keyboard configurations. If this is DCS BSv2 and Win7, you'll find the profile stored under: C:\Users\<you>\Saved Games\DCS BlackShark 2\Config\Input\ka-50\keyboard Otherwise if DCS BSv1 / other os - you may have to check the Install-dir to find it. By reset to defaults; Removing any files created after installation, keeping original DCS-files (if v1 or other OS). If v2 & Win7, you can rename the whole (config) folder.
20. I had a (and still have, sitting on the shelves) X52 Pro, and it worked with all previous versions of DCS / FC. However, I never used SST, instead i used the trick where I kept the Control Panel / Game Device / X52 Pro open. And then I started DCS. DCS would recognize the device and I could configure it all within DCS. Pros: Easy to get started, and pinky switch worked etc. Cons: You can't use the 'mode wheel', it wont work. However, if you still have problems using it I would have tried to reset the DCS joystick profile to defaults. Which sim / version are you using?
21. In case you feel like responding to Cali's post, please don't. Let the road leading to a politics debate stay unpaved. Cali, yours is okai, it's a short explanation - but let's leave it at that, please. Thanks
22. Thats a bargain, I'll have 2 please.
23. Im starting to feel a little bit like this parrot ...
24. You probably don't want to go down that road debating who's fighting who's wars (aka politics). It often ends in deleted posts. ;)
25. lol, Well, I should learn to keep my mouth shut, obviously you can't say anything without repercussions around here. Ah well, I shouldn't have paved that road ...
