  1. It's pretty simple, harder to explain. Taxi around in the planes and play around, you'll soon see how it works. Take-offs and landings are always problematic, even after having all the WW2 birds for 12 months I still have my fair share of wing scrapes with the occasional roll over thrown in. Getting the brakes to work in a linear fashion with my pedals (Logitech G940) is proving to be the biggest hassle.
  2. OK trying now. The first one failed and said a security token was missing. It was a 10mb file which I realised after should be too big. Here is a smaller one which has worked. EDIT: So I think I have my answer, thanks for the help. Now to find out why they are corrupting. I should have known better with the copy/paste...I will blame that on morphine, then hide under a rock from the embarrassment. (No idea what I was thinking!) 109 loop2.trk 109 loop2.trk
  3. I've been having trouble with 1.5 and replaying a track, the aircraft constantly buries it's nose into the ground after a few minutes of replay, one time it took off from the ramp. So I went to submit a bug but I go into my tracks folder (saved Games\yada yada) and the tracks are there but there are no associations on the files so if I click on them I get nothing except windows asking what program I'd like to run it with. But I also tried to copy/paste the track into the thread I'd made and I couldn't do that either. I ended up deleting the thread after that. I'm not familiar with the track system, I don't really use it so can anyone shed some light as to why there is no association to the file for replay? Thanks. (I tried to add DCS.exe manually but no joy)
  4. There are no inconsistencies at all. P-51 and TF-51 have a semi steerable (limited in range) tail wheel where the 109 and 190 have a free castoring tailwheel that can be locked into the straight position for takeoff/landing. Differential braking is required for tight turns as it is also for the Mustang due to it's limited control range. The Mustang is the same as the 190 in that the wheel will lock with the stick pulled back, the 109 has a lever to lock/unlock on the left side panel. There is no real discrepancy with Erich Brunotte either, he isn't talking about doing 90° turns on paved taxiways. You should not be using brakes for takeoff/landing corrections, the rudder will work with any meaningful speed or thrust setting. Only use them for taxiing.
  5. Hi Sporg. My real world experience is with helicopters so only really taking a guess here. Really all a helicopter does is change blade pitch, but every change brings with it an upset that requires correction. With the 109 I think it's exactly the same behaviour, so when you set the prop to manual you effectively have a constant speed prop and therefore shouldn't get those upsets. (Mustang should be the same as it's fully manual) Now you need to be careful you don't over-torque your engine while in manual mode.
  6. Auto pitch control? Try changing the prop speed in the Mustang. ;)
  7. I was getting those too, right after installing 1.5. I have 16GB installed and a 4GB R9 290X and was wondering what was wrong. I was getting the errors when finishing a single player mission, I then had to restart DCS to get it going again. No errors when actually playing a mission. My G15 keyboard was reporting ~60% usage (which is far too high for 16GB) After looking at a few things I noticed my machine was reporting only 8GB installed running single channel. It ended being a ram slot that needed cleaning, since I'm back with dual channel 16GB I've had no errors. The concerning thing for me was getting these OOM's with 8GB, I assumed there might be a memory leak being an early Beta. I run pretty much everything on maximum except DoF and 2560x1440. VRAM usage can get as high as ~3.5GB on my install. Edit; Using W7 ult.
  8. Anyone else having trouble with the white flood? I switched it on in the night flight mission and had a ton of glare come back at me. Instruments were unreadable as the dashboard was so bright. Green filtered flood is ok.
  9. Yep, the lack of any temperature modelling has been a complaint ever since this model was launched. It's an immersion killer for what is otherwise a wonderful simulation.
  10. Got it working now after running the updater manually. Thanks for the prompt fix. However I had to reactivate due to significant hardware changes. I haven't changed any hardware...
  11. I didn't apply the hotfix, and after restarting the pc when I saw your post I still can't get the MiG to work. Getting the DCS APPCRASH at ~60% through loading the missions.
  12. Ah ok, makes sense thanks. It was on my laptop which I don't use that often.
  13. I just had a UAC prompt from DCS so I accepted it and the updater asked if I wanted to update to 1.5.1 which I did but then nothing happened. It didn't work. I haven't seen anything since.
  14. Depends on whether BA wants a hull write off against their name. QANTAS repaired a B747 at great expense after an overrun in order to keep a clean slate. (no injuries) IIRC it was sold off soon after. BA don't seem to be having much luck with 777's and engines.
  15. Seeing as though you said you're playing the latest games and having trouble I would hold off a month or so and see what happens with DX12. Initial benchmarking of DX12 is showing Nvidia cards are actually running slower than in DX11. It's only one benchmark so far but I would wait and see if there is a trend. There are a couple of DX12 games about to be released so we should have direction very soon. That initial test is surprisingly showing the 390X to be the best card, not Fury. If you're only playing DCS then the 980Ti would be the best choice as it's the fastest DX11 card. I don't include Titan because on price/performance alone, all it's good for is a new Ferrari for the CEO. If you want more info, google Async Compute as that appears to be at the heart of the DX12 problem.
  16. Win 7 ult desktop. W10 (home?) laptop.
  17. Oooh BEER! What a great topic. We used to have a Coke machine in the corner of the hangar. Outsiders were not allowed to insert coins. Coke machines make very good beer fridges! I don't know what Coke thought about never ever resupplying the machine with soft drinks. What they don't know won't hurt them. These days I've been introduced to a good strong Tank 10 otherwise known as Tanqueray#10. With lemon/lime of course! The occasional Glenmorangie/Macallan or Courvoisier xo to clear the nostrils.
  18. Last night the last remaining Dam Buster pilot of 617 sqn, passed away. Aged 96. There are so few WW2 survivors left. They are national treasures in every country. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-33769486
  19. The Mig-21 is a blast. It's not the easiest in the world to fly but it's not ridiculously hard where you end up parking it either. It will give you a lot of satisfaction. (I still have the odd landing oopsie if I don't concentrate) Weapons are easy enough to deploy, so no massive learning curve like the A-10C. It's fast and can deploy nukes. It is worth every cent.
  20. I'm also late to the party. I come from a civil background so know next to nothing about the military side. I also don't own the FC3 module but I do have the SU-27 and F-15. You make a very good point about starting with trainers. I know how to fly (I hope) but I don't know anything about military tactics, navigation, targeting/tracking, and engagement. Therefore I see FC3 style aircraft as an ab initio trainer of sorts. SU-27/F-15 gave me a simplified insight of what to expect. I have now moved on to the Mig-21 with some background knowledge that I never would have gained if I hadn't played with these 'simpler' systems beforehand. Each to their own I guess. But I do think FC3 has it's place.
  21. I get awarded medals after completing missions but they don't stick in the logbook. I'm still technically medal-less. Oh Noes! :P Definitely something wrong.
  22. Bingo! :smilewink: Using a car analogy, do you go and get the milk in an F1 Ferrari when you've got an S class in the shed?
  23. I just had a quick and dirty play with my 109. Used the free flight option in one of the quickstart menus, so I didn't check temperature, pressure or wind and fuel load was probably at 100%. Flying at 500km/h straight and level ~14 ata, 2500rpm at 2500m with full down trim I was getting a climb rate of 5m/s hands off. At cruise speed and settings I had to trim it slightly up. I'm using a G940. One thing I did note was if the ball is even slightly off centre it will head for the stars - rapidly. All in all it flew as I expected in my oh so quick test. However not being a fixed wing pilot nor ever having been in the military I don't understand why so much up/positive trim is available. I think fighters of the era were designed to be slightly unstable? Anyone care to comment?
  24. The G940 works very well in helicopters with relation to trim. The only real issue is if you trim then take your hand off it will sometimes flop forward due to the weight of the handle. I guess if I used a higher centering force it would be better. I prefer to set and forget my stick and work around any problems though. I hate diving into the software and changing things constantly. No curves and no deadzone, always. I'm not certain about fixed wing though. As a retired helicopter pilot I've had very little seat time in fixed wing and certainly not in as powerful aircraft such as DCS simulates. The P-51 feels good using aileron trim when it's asymmetrically loaded that's for sure, my G940 loses all the load when it's correctly trimmed. I couldn't imagine not using FFB now.
