Hello gentlemen. I seem to have this blasted issue with my 940 and the collective not mapping to the throttles with my Huey. I have deleted over and over the DCS folder and let it rebuild but still I have no luck. What I have noticed is the default mapping (after I delete the folder) shows up as a slider instead of the _z axis. This happens in sim mode. So I change it from slider to _z axis, go into the game and sometimes I get a tiny initial movement like it wants to work and then nothing. The really strange thing is I can always control the collective from my R1 pot on the throttle. Any ideas? This is driving me nuts... Sorry for the hijack/resurrection of an old thread, this thread was all I could find after a search. I can take some screenshots if that's helpful.

Yepp, that's the one. Sorry I should have posted it.

Can someone from ED confirm where the problem lies? If it's a quirk of the game that can't be fixed then I can live with that but I would like to know if they have at least addressed the situation with FFB. I have never played IL2 but it seems strange that the stick works correctly in that game and not BS. I have both the msFFB2 and G940 and I prefer the G940 but the centre slop does need looking at. Apparently Logitech are doing a full software rewrite so it will take some time.

Yeah I just checked the forums and they said there is a total rewrite of the software being done. Being a total rewrite I expect it will take some time unfortunately. At least something is being done to correct my white elephant.

Hehe milk and 2 sugars. If you're going to do a job you may as well do it right the first time. -

Not having trouble with mine either. (after tearing it apart and cleaning it because the daughter kindly tipped a full mug of coffee over it.) :joystick: -

If you really want to know about it, the guy who runs Lost Circuits forum is the inventor of the NIA. http://www.lostcircuits.com/forum/index.php -
True. I would like to feel a little shudder or push when a missile is fired for example. Others won't like it but that's what programability is for.

SLI/Crossfire - is it worth it for BlackShark?
AussieFX replied to Celo63's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Actually I would have thought Eyefinity might have been better for him. Ditch that expensive matrox triplehead. Anyway back onto the topic, when I had crossfired 4870's I used to disable one card, I never really checked framerates because it was smooth enough but I occasionally suffered some corruption with it enabled. Either way if it does help it doesn't help much and certainly isn't worth going and paying hundreds of dollars for. I would like to see ED pay some attention in this area though. Maybe with the new engine? -
Sikorsky and some private company in the states are working on a Seahawk with the anti torque rotor removed and replaced with a weird looking ducted fan in a shroud so it can give anti torque as well as thrust. I think in testing they got it to somewhere near 230kts and said 250kts "might" be possible. It was all done in level flight but it's in the very early testing days. There was all sorts of talk such as adding a 3rd engine (T700??) etc. I have no idea if they're still working on it however. I will try to dig it up. http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-118446601.html picture. http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=32205&stc=1&d=1255348878 Here's a video of the first flight test. I was wrong they have only got it to 170kts which isn't bad in itself as a mate of mine was a hawk driver and he said the best he got out of his machine was 130KIAS and it was trying to shake itself to bits. The wings are an interesting addition, probably so they can bottom the collective at high speed. It sounds like a PC9. :)

I don't know how to post a track but I will give it a go. The FPS are in the top left corner using the inbuilt system. Do you seriously think that a processor that is fundamentally the same as what powers the worlds fastest supercomputers can't run flight simulation games? I don't care what you want to buy but do not start spreading FUD and outright untruths that AMD processors cannot play games/flight sims. Have you ever tried running one of these processors or are you just guessing? BTW I don't appreciate you insinuating I'm a liar. Don't bother posting your track because I actually believe and trust you if you say you're getting playable framerates. You know some people can't afford $1500 processors/systems and by you spreading this kind of FUD hurts BlackShark sales because they then believe their system isn't up to it, so they go and buy another game or worse go and buy a console. @ everyone else the flight controller I'm using is a Logitech G940 that hasn't been setup so the wild pitching you see is what happens when you take your hand off the stick. There is a light sensor there that needs to be covered. Otherwise it's a great stick and walks all over my old MSFFB2. Sorry for taking this off topic. http://forums.eagle.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=32202&stc=1&d=1255344261 proof.trk

That's a rather silly and uninformed statement. Is between 50 and 100+ fps not good? EDIT: Thanks Groove.

Are you serious and why would you want an intel EE? That's throwing beer money down the drain. Have a look at some benchmarks before tossing money away. In reality Core I7's are no faster in gaming than AMD and you're paying ~3x more. Have a look at this review, it's the only one in English where they compare the 5870 on both intel and AMD systems. http://bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1682 But throwing 2 grand down the drain on Alienware is just uninformed madness IMO. I'm yet to see any expensive I7 system outdo my system in framrates for BS. Yes Core I7 will give AMD a hiding in synthetic benchmarks but unless you play Sisoft Sandra, superpi or Everest all day then it's rather pointless. Sorry if I come across a bit harsh but throwing at least $1500 down the drain for no reason just doesn't add up. I could advise you to go and buy a 12 core Magny Cours processor at Christmas time, they will win every benchmark around but what's the point when you will not get any better framerates. Clockspeed is King and any decent intel or AMD processor should hit the high 3Ghz to low 4Ghz range. Whatever you do though, get a quadcore if you're going to make videos. Most quads overclock just as high as dualcores do now so dualcore is becoming irrelevent. My advice with videocards is to stay away from Nvidia for now, they are in as much trouble now as ATI was 3-4 years ago. My 5870 is wonderful esp with a high gamut monitor like mine, nobody has mentioned it but the new cards have dynamic contrast and the picture quality is amazing, it has bought BS to life. No more drab looking forests and paddocks. In the end it's your money and your decision, good luck with whichever route you choose. EDIT: If your doing video editing (which I think you are) then fast hard drives will be the most important items. A couple of 300Gb velociraptors would be the go for that. SSD's are faster but at those capacities they are still prohibitively expensive.

Your right about the cache, it won't make much difference in games. What you do need though is pure clockspeed, the amount of cores doesn't really matter. The new C3 steppings will be out in the next week or so and I believe some can already be found and they do clock very high. From what I've seen 4.2-4.3Ghz will be a breeze and that's being done on stock coolers. You can pick up cheap AMD motherboards, there are plenty of them. The swap tp DDR3 will be your problem. If you can afford 3 Gigs of that then the AMD solution should be a no brainer. You would get away with a system for well under $400. The save a few bucks for a 5850 videocard. :smilewink: Definitely go the AM3 route as that socket is going to stay for Bulldozer (2011) so you've still got a few years left in your motherboard.

Thankyou so much, I was really wondering what I had got myself into but that has cleared things right up for me. At least now I can fly although I can see a lot of work in binding all the other controls. I don't know about others here but I find the trimmer implentation on this stick almost perfect. On the MS FFB2 it was a nightmare as the stick would nearly break your wrist as it shot off into a roll to the right. I used to fly with the trimmer activared all the time with the FFB2. With this stick it's brilliant. To the OP, sorry for the the Hijack but I was getting desperate there for a while.

Oh my lord what have I got myself into here. Can someone point me to some reading I can do regarding the most basic setup? I confess I have no idea and that's why I need to read. I got my 940 yesterday installed the drivers today, opened the Logitech profiler set it to BS and started the game naively thinking I could do a couple of quick circuits. I pushed/pulled the throttles thinking I was operating the collective and low and behold the cyclic was moving. Hence I crashed into the fuel truck. I was using a MS FFB2 but decided a HOTAS would be nice but I'm in way over my head here. As I said can anyone point me to some literature? I would not like to ask for help here because it's obvious to me that I have no idea with this thing. I fly an AS355 for a living, that's not the problem, the software is.

There is more here. http://www.elitebastards.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=796&catid=16&Itemid=29 On page 2 is a list of currently supported games. FSX and Xplane9 are there, unfortunately Blackshark isn't listed (yet) maybe it wasn't tested I don't know but if it doesn't work then ED need to get onto it. They can't let an opportunity like this go begging. That being said I can't see any reason why BS wouldn't work. -
so now, is the i7 meeting expectations?
AussieFX replied to Flyby's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Wow you guys with I7's are getting much lower framerates than I am. :( Personally I have found that cpu clock speed is everything with this game. -
SLI/Crossfire - is it worth it for BlackShark?
AussieFX replied to Celo63's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I certainly wouldn't be buying a GTX275 with the new ATI cards due anyday. That would be a very poor choice. The new 5870 is rumoured to be faster than a GTX295 and has support for 6 monitors at some ridiculous resolutions. I would hold off for a week and make your mind up when the cards are actually released. -
ATI Eyefinity runs 24 monitors
AussieFX replied to AussieFX's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I just use one Dell 2407-HC. I don't have room for anymore. I'm another who doesn't like the bezels either, I just prefer one large screen. Getting back to the GPU's for a sec, the reports I have seen are showing that one 5870 should be slightly more powerful than a GTX295. -
ATI Eyefinity runs 24 monitors
AussieFX replied to AussieFX's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
From what I understand Samsung are bringing out panels with clear bezels. So you will still have the "gap" between screens but at least there's no big black line, which I don't like. I think ATI just put Matrox dualhead and triplehead boxes out of business though. -
Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere. ATI Eyefinity (new 5 series videocards) has been shown running X-Plane using 24 separate monitors in Linux. This might fix all the multimonitor dramas I have seen on this forum in one fell swoop. http://www.semiaccurate.com/2009/09/10/ati-eyefinity-runs-wow-at-7k-resolution/ http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NzUyNQ
