my 3D projects for the next period are the next jets. i have a lot o f work to do still, but these are some little teasers. the F-16 is now based on blueprints by General Dynamics and it's very accurate. the superhornet is still at the level of studying the shape so it'll take longer to finish it. i'm making these for dcs and i'm looking for someone to make 3d working cockpits for them, or at least to animate my 3d cockpits, because i don't know how to do it.

@Maverick-"Do you mean something like this? i don't really understand much of this video, maybe you can explain the action to me. of what i understand, it seems the F-16 is easily maneuvring around the F-15 that is struggling hardly to cope. but what i meant, look at this: and that's a MLU version

if we just had those clouds in dcs...and the colors too. DCS has the colors of the maps too clean. when having a green somewhere, for example, you must find a specific tone(dark green-to blue), not any green from the color palette. it seems cartoonish in some pics, because the textures are hand made, not true photos from the satellite. once again, if we could put some google map photos in DCS it'd bring best-ultimate-extra visuals ever!

@[Maverick] and you are based on...what, for those statements? are you a pilot? You can say F-15 is the best fighter in the world, after de F-22, the europeans will say the same about their canards and so on... i tell you the reality: THE PILOT is the main brain and the plus thing for an AoA succes. with him, come the AWACS and/or the ground radars. also the terrain is very important. in the mountains, the maneuvrability becomes important with the factor of hiding being also imp.

well, i agree then...i wouldn't like any of my models to be ripped
-
i don't know if it's made by who... one thing i know, the models is for free here: http://www.3dcadbrowser.com/preview.aspx?modelcode=31108 the only thing you have to do is to upload some 3D-s of your owns, to download anything, and i didn't do that.

guys, i'm in a big confusion here. i am working at the entire F-16 family, including double seatters. from my point of view, it's hard to make a decision which one to release for fc3. as i see what's the direction things are going on, i consider seriously to make my F-16 a third party project, to have some benefits from this hard work, specially for the thing that i'm a single mod developer. My problems are: -even i'll model every version of the viper, with both of the engines, the cockpit is different for each one. so for 5 variants, for example, it'll be needed to build 5 cockpits. what is the thing to do? maybe making a team with somebody like cockpits developer. i know many of you believe ED won't give other third parties for the F-16, but i can make every other version instead of theirs, but only external shape. if you got any ideas, i'm very interested, and soon i'll start a poll about: "are you going to buy any version of viper? does it worth it, or i just cancel all the things? i have to mention, this one is a very detailed one, at the same level with ED's, or even better.

Creating a 3D aircraft from scratch..
john_X replied to deltahawk2008's topic in 3D Modeling for DCS World
at my ex-job i used to work 9 hours/day continuously in front of the screen. as i started to have severe headaches after a while, they told me is something wrong with me. but i just believe that today, people are completely insane when asking someone to spend such a long time using a computer. so i quitted, because the salary was very small anyway(about 300 usd/month). the truth is, every day i was spending 1-2 hours in adittion, home, to work at different aircraft models, that's compared to beczl's 8 h/day. so this is why a mod comes so slowly, specially when the team is composed by 1 member... -

" I'd go with 3 years being a good estimate for part time work." I agree! -
the most important missing piece is the foam, which would bring the realism further..

ED SIMS SCREENSHOT AND VIDEO THREAD!!!! (NO USER MODS OR COMMENT)
john_X replied to rekoal's topic in Screenshots and Videos
@blaze, you're right, but ED's F-16 is maybe a block 30-32 or 40-42. Maybe someone wants a block 52+ or a Sufa or a block 60 or ADF, these are very different jets. However, maybe ED agrees for a third party F-16, another version than theirs. This is in the case that ED really releases that F-16. -

(Is it another flyable?) i'm not decided yet, i must contact ED for this.. About the screenshot thread, you are right but unfortunately this discussion started from a F-16 screenshot and i believe it's hard to separate them, generally. anyway, as i get an answer from Ed i'll start a thread inn DCS world or elsewhere -

as i see some great benefits from Ed(third parties) i am decided to make the entire F-16 family for DCS/FC3. My new F-16 is started from scratch and has nothing in common with the one i released before. This new one is as good as ED's F-16 and it'll be available for order after the FC3 release. The mod will not include all the variants but a specific one selected by the buyer(for example, block 60). Unfortunately i'm not able to make a cockpit too, so i'm looking for someone to make one and sell it in parallel with my F-16. As i finish mapping it you will have some screenshots too. -

@diveplane, any F-16 request for DCS? Because i might fulfill your dream, for any block you want. -

this bird(mustang) looks great! i have no words to describe how beautiful it looks. But i have some questions: Does it have specular map and bump map? because it looks so. If yes, then it's a must to implement these maps at every model, because the result is very very realistic. -
now, this is the best idea i've heard for a better terrain. If ED wants some terrain improvement, using normal maps made with Google map textures, for example, it's the best way to success.

i don't know, but the glass material settings look odd to me, for every model released by ED. Look bad on Mustang, BlackHawk, Apache, Strike Eagle and many others...and that blueish reflection of the aluminium on the mustang isn't realistic too. -

Those effects are usually made by camera, they are not visible for human eye and they are not realistic, more like a game scene. take a look from your window, i doubt you see those colors, and from what i know the purpose of this sim is to simulate real life, and i think, till now, they made it well. -
i use max 2009 and when i want to open the .max file with an earlier version, like max 8, i export the file as an .obj. it preserves the mesh very nice and the coordinates too, including the mapping. I contiuned the work with the second one because i made a scene with 15 aircaft flying simultaneously and it worked just perfect, the model being at a number of 75k polys
-
then i counted them badly..my bad
-
although my computer has no problem with either of them, i believe that, in a multiplayer game, the second one would create some problems. Plus the high detail textures.. Anyway, i got 150k for 3 meshes, 2 of 40k and one of 70k and they look as detailed as in the pics, i wonder what did ED do for that Strike Eagle to be 1 million polys?
-
Hi, i'm having a trouble with my work in development. I'm at the stage of choosing the number of polys for my aircraft and it loos like in the next screen. Now the fps number is in the max scene at 30-80, it has variations. The number of polys is cumulated at 150k for both models, and a third one hidden, so that would be in the decent limits. The question is which one sould i use?
