@Hobel As a side note. It is actually not recommend to fire ATGMs from a hover in the Hind. It makes you a sitting duck. It's better to run in from about 6km shoot one or two missiles, get out, make distance, repeat.

Hey guys! Thank you very much if you liked and subscribed in my last videos! You are awesome and beautyfull people! I want to create that topic to have the videos at one place and also to hear your feedback, wishes and criticism. It's all welcome! I try to explane everything as easy and understandable as possible and I try to have the newcommers in mind. Enjoy! In this video I explain how the Yaw auto pilot works. I did revisit the topic of yaw AP as some Changes where made. In this video we will learn how the trimmer works and what it is good for. In this video I play the quick start mission Battle for Zugdidi and I show how you can use the clock to make sure you have perfect distance for your ATGM attacks. This is the first of four videos where we will learn how to hover and make the transition from fast flight to hover to landing. Download the Training mission from this post. Next training part is online. This time we practice out of ground effect hover. Transition to forward flight, maintaining a desired air speed and transition back to out of ground effect hover. In the next video we will put these parts together to perform our vertical landing. I hope this helps some of you guys to improve your flying skills and as always, feedback is welcome. I decided to outsource the theory part Please watch the very good video "Your rotor and you" by CasmoTV for the theory background of this practice. I think this is the best video out there and I could not explain it better. Link is in my video description. This is the third of 4 Videos on our road to master the vertical landing in the DCS Mi-24P. We put the steps together that we have practiced in the last two videos and perform our vertical landing. I also adjusted the training mission a little bit once more. I set a lower hight and speed for the landing clients, to make it a little bit more easy for you guys. I also added a carrier to give a more easy version to practice landing on a moving ship. While I don´t realy know how much this is a thing IRL landing on ships is a great practice to smoth out your skills in helicopters. Got to admit, that´I did not realy check the speed of those ships when I added them to the mission. They seem to be a little bit fast, but ok. A quick tutorial on how to use unguided weapons and how to approach targets with the unguided weapons. Hind_Basic_Training_V1.4.miz

The rudder yaw that keeps from flying straight
nazradu replied to FoxxyTrotty's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
When I do a turn, I stay on the pedals dir the entire turn. This is necessary to make the yaw ap catch up with the actual change in direction. The trimmer does not realy affect the AP channels. They are there to smoth out and keep a steady attitude. All the trimmer does is keep your stick at the position it has when you press and release it. -
I actually wanted to just fly the quick start mission Battle for Zugdidi, but I also incorporated the "tutorial" on how you can judge target distance and find perfect seperation for the use of ATGMs.

The rudder yaw that keeps from flying straight

Don't worry and ask as much as you want Rudder trimmer is not in use for this module. I don't know if this is a thing irl, but I never use rudder trim options in no aircraft cause I dont like when the virtual axis is async with my physical pedal position. For the trimmer itself. I made a vid on that topic too. Unfortunatly there is no short yes or no answer in this, cause it depends on the situation. If I am cruising fast and do a long turn where I want to keep my IAS high I will press and hold, establish the bank and pitch angle for the turn, release trimmer, center the stick and let the chopper do the turn. When I want to exit the turn, press and hold the trimmer get the chopper straight, release trimmer, center the joystick. If I do a sharp and short maneuver I will hold the trimmer for the entire maneuver. And on those very small corrections I will push the stick tab the trimmer and center. You can see that in the beginning of the video when I establish the hover. -
I am glad it's usefull. Thanks for spreading the word bro

The rudder yaw that keeps from flying straight

The turn in steps. Press and hold trimmer, initiate turn with rudder and hold it while turning (do not center while turning!), roll with cyclic and hold it, adjust turn rate with pitch. To exit the turn: Roll back to level and simultaniusly center rudder pedals, release trimmer button. Eventually correct roll and pitch, by press and hold trimmer find new cyclic position, release trimmer. -
Both ways work ingame. Best habit is hold trim, get desired cyclic position, release, center physical stick (non ffb stick). The auto pilot channels in the Hind seem to be less intrusive than the Ka-50 ones are, so you also get away with move and tab strategy, but it's not recommended. Another thing are micro adjustments like I do in my video you have to be fast here so it's not super synced and you are better with the quick tab technique.

I try to explain it here, but I have to admit, that it is not that easy to explain it right. But I tried and I hope it helps a little bit.
-
Maybe. But I am also planning to do one the next days.
-
Oh you might got me wrong with that reset advice. It is only for the case that you changed your heading with the cyclic only and therefore have the pedals stuck offset. If you start a change in heading with rudder input you usualy should not come into that state. But I will test it tomorrow and update if necessary
-
Please be a bit more precice here. You have a lot of options to get killed in chopper. What exactly did you do?
-
Trimmer seems to affect only pitch and roll or in other words the position of the virtual stick. I think it realy helps to have yaw AP on as long as you stick to what I said in the video. The yaw AP will manage the torque for you and that makes take off and landing super easy as long as you go easy on the collective. As mentioned by others when you want to change roll or pitch develop the habit to push and hold the trimmer get desired roll and pitch with the cyclic and when you reached the desired attitude release the trimmer and center the your physical stick. But remember! When ever you want to change your heading with yaw AP on, do it with your pedals and only assist it with cyclic. Watch the video. It's all explained in 7 minutes

I think I know how it works
-
OK I am beginning to understand that yaw channel. What @Whisper sayd is correct it will set a heading for you and try to keep that heading. If you try to turn just with cyclic it will fight you. If you manage to turn with cyclic only, the trimmer button will not set a new heading on the yaw channel and you end up in that peddal stuck situation. If you introduce and assist your turn with pedals the yaw channel will catch up and set new heading when you release pressure from the pedals.
-
I will test your theory, but it is not working like in the Ka-50. It's Not the same behaviour. For the most part I fly the Hind like the Ka-50. Press trim button (what in the Ka-50 stopps AP channels from assisting so you don't Fight them), do whatever I want to do and when the chopper has desired vector and attitude I release the trim and everything is set.

Just my 2cents on the yaw and stuck pedal stuff.

I am more a visual learner. Could you give screenshots? XD
