When signing off from JTAC you now get to say 'stay safe down there', made me smile when I heard it.

Yes due to the fact that 'combat mix' is a mix of two types of projectiles, each with their own balistic properties and mass. I believe the top dot is for amour piercing, and the bottom is for high explosive. Tom

Blackshark no longer activated! WTF
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in Payment and Activation
Thanks Viper, here's hoping it gets sorted swiftly. Tom -
Since the A10 Beta has been out I haven't used blackshark. Today I thought I would dust it off to see if I could still fly the bird. However when starting the mission I got a message saying "unable to run the application. The product license was deactivated on thie computer" I generated the error report (attached to this post) but I cant re-activate the product, my serial number no longer works! What is more the DCS web site no longer shows any purchaces against my username! I have bought copies of LOMAC, FC2 Blackshark and A10 but none of the serial numbers are displayed on the 'payments' page any more. What the hell is going on. Such a shame that the only really good flight sims are crippled by this shoddy protection. PLEASE could some one help be get blackshark up and running again. blackshark error log.zip

I imagine it would be a design constraint, to get strong RF output you need a directional aerial to increase the gain, otherwise you would need a very powerfull transmitter to radiate omnidirectionaly and then this would cause all sorts of problems for the host aircraft.
-
I agree a radio call would be very usefull. At the moment the only tools at your disposal are the external views (to check external stores) or to order him to attack your SPI with a particular munition and then wait for him to comply or reject the instruction.

Hi one anoying little thing that I have come across several times is that at some point during the mission I am no longer able to communicate with my flight. At first I assumed I had sustained some damage which had disabled my uhf radio, however in my latest flight I deliberatly stayed out of trouble and controlled my flight, assigning them each targets. At some point during the mission I could no longer get the 'flight' radio menu to come up. However I could still hear the other members of the flight spotting targets and calling out bandits etc. Is this a known bug? or is more investigation needed? Cheers Tom

HARS navigation problem
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thanks slackerD, I'm glad it is't me going mad. Tom -
Hi, I am practising navigating using HARS, ILS and TACAN and have run into a problem. The only way I can get the HSI to show my heading and steering information is to decouple the compass transmitter from the HARS gyro (ie place HARS in DG mode). In this mode the HSI is operational, however when I set the HARS to use its default SLAVE mode (HARS gyro coupled to the remote compass transmitter) it is locked in a horizontal orientation and provides no steering information. I have tried with the EGI powered on/off, and all manner of configurations, but to no avail. An easy way to replicate the problem is to create a mission with a runway start and then select HARS from the NMSP, you will note the HSI points horizontally. If you change HARS from SLAVE to DG mode it will then work. I'm sure I have missed something obvious but this is driving me mad. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Tom

One thing I have not seen mentioned so far, which I found helped me tremendously with ripple firing mavs is to put the TVV over the target on approach. This allows much greater precision when slewing the Mavs. I can consistently fire off one mav per two/three seconds if the targets are clearly visible in the Mav viewfinder. If you are not flying directly toward the target the moment you slew the mav onto the next target you will be fighting the natural tendency for the crosshairs to wander. Hope this helps Tom

Wingman trying to kill me
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
No, I had commanded them to rejoin when leaving the hot zone, flew back to base and called 'inbound', I then received clearance to land and got the check gear message. A couple of km from the strip in landing configuration, flaps down speedbrakes deployed, AOA and glideslope perfect and the muppet wingmen start to fly at me like crows mobbing a hawk, now if I hadn't been winchester...... Tom -
Hi again, Last night I flew the second mission in the first campaign and for the first time ever returned to base with all three wingmen intact. However on getting clearance to land, each wingman in turn decided to fly across my path within a few feet of my canopy whilst shouting 'gear up' over an over again. Has anyone else come across that before? I was aiming for the centerline of the runway and if they were trying to land with me in formation they may have all panicked at the last minute. Do wingmen try to do formation landings with you now, if so I assume you need to be aiming for the right hand of the runway? Cheers Tom (patched from 1.0.07 to 1.0.0.8)

A different sort of failure
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Damn, no I didn't think to save it. -
I was flying the Georgian hammer campaign this evening when I had a HOTAS failure mid flight. The stick and throttles worked fine, as did the swiches on the base of my TM warthog. However none of the HOTAs functions worked, no TMS, DMS or slew control etc. After a few minutes of headscratching I looked at the status page on the MFD and on page two the HOTAS entry showed as green. However I selected it and hit the 'Reset' button and low and behold my HOTAS functions all worked! I didnt even know that HOTAS failures were incorperated. Has anyone else had such a failure? Tom

Correct procedure to change inventory after rearm?
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to kungfoo's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
The first thing to do is to reload your data cartridge when you have been re armed. (assuming you have a different loadout). This is best achieved by pressing one of the bottom OSB's and holding it. The MFD's will then display all the available pages, select the OSB next to the 'load all' option and then press the osb where you want the menu option to appear. Then you can go through the motions of reloading the cartridge. and when compleat all the weapons will be green. Hope this helps. Tom EDIT ***Damn - Sniped! *** -
A usefull tip to quickly calculate the reciprical of a bearing in to "add 200 and subtract 20 from the bearing" or "add 20 and subtract 200 from the bearing" whichever gives a value between 0 and 360. Or you could just look at the HSI ;-) Tom

How make the sun smaller?

A few questions, new to these.
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to AussieSausage's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Sorry I can't help with that one, I'm sure someone will be along with one later. However in my opinion you can't beat creating your own profile. Just try to incoperate all the HOTAS functions on the real stick and you will be fine. (See the back of the quick start manual for keymappings for the HOTAS) Bite sized chunks, Watch a few tutorial videos, run through the training missions in order, only progressing when you fully understand all aspects of the current mission. Don't expect to hop in, start her up, take off navigate locate and destroy targets all in one go. Many people spend many weeks simply learning to basics of flight, navigation and emergency procedures, before they even turn on the master arm switch. I'm not sure I know what you mean. Hope some of this helps, above all enjoy learning, it is a great feeling when you start to master the aircraft and systems and you can start to concentrate on tactics. Tom -
All I get is "Currently unavailable in your region". Hmm strange.
-
Also if you apply full brakes, then pause the sim, release the brakes when paused and finaly unpause the sim the brakes will stay on until you touch them again. (Not very realistic I know but more comfortable than pressing the pedals for 8 mins.)
-
What has blown me away with this sim is the turbulence close to the ground. Try flying low over a ridge line. you experience what feels like updraft. (Not sure if it is simply low level turbulence as the terrain rises to meet you.) NOE flying has never been so much fun. Tom

No JTAC Data after 1.1.0.7 patch
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to MadBadMan's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
The problem is that if you change your group ID to 1 your fellow flight members (AI) remain on the original setting. This is a minor glitch but it would be nice to see fellow flight members as blue circles on the TAD.
