Radios need to be tuned to use?
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Steel Jaw's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thanks for that, I did try a quick scenario with JTAC on 300MHz and strangly I could contact him what ever freq the UHF radio was tuned to, when calling up the radio menu it correctly showed his freq as 300MHz but my radio was set to 225Mhz (Manual tune not preset) Possible bug? Tom -

Ok new question, what does the 'A' stand for on the 100MHz knob of the UHF radio? I cant find it in the manual. Tom -

I think I understand the concept of the two VHF radios, you can set one for your flight, and one for your package or homeplate. But I'm confused about the UHF radio. The manual states that it is usually used to talk to the JTAC however when setting a unit as the JTAC I always have to set the VHF radio to his freq. How do you configure the mission so the JTAC uses UHF? EDIT: Ive answered my own question, you set the freq for the JTAC to more than 300MHz in the mission editor. then you can use the UHF radio. A couple of questions about the GAU-8
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Viper, I just quickly tried again and get the same as you, but only in game mode. Perhaps you have your difficulty setting has inadvertently changed? Tom -
A couple of questions about the GAU-8
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Viper, that's an interesting track. When I fire my GAU-8 it is a completely different story. The POI moves up a couple of degrees before steadying out. What HOTAS and key bindings are you using? I have a X52 Pro but the second stage on the trigger has stopped working. so I have 1st stage trigger mapped with an advanced key command, (P-down when trigger pulled, Repeat-Space while trigger held, P-up when released) It shows PAC-2 in hud when I'm firing. Tom -
Thats the first thing I checked, SPI was on steer points, and Man Rel showing in HUD, I was at 15000 ft and pickle button held down for at least 8 seconds. but the dam thing didn't release. It has only happened the once though, every other attempt since has worked fine. Tom

I was practicing Headspaces method (which was excellently explained), it worked like a charm for the first group of three tanks, however on a subsequent run the JDAMs wouldn't release, when I cycled through the markpoints in the new flt plan the SPI was updating correctly (I could see the stick poking out of the TGP diamond jump from one tank to the next) But however long I held the pickle button down for they would not drop. Master arm was set to on, GBU38 showing as RDY on hud. Any ideas? Tom

Sometimes in the menu the ATC freq is shown as 0Mz, what does that denote? Tom -
In the video by Glowing Amram - Project 10 there is a pilots eye view of an engagement using the cannon. When fired the pipper stays on the target for the duration of the burst. However when I use the cannon there is an initial pitch up deflection of a couple of degrees before the PAC stabilizes things. Looking at some cockpit footage of A10s firing the GAU-8 it seems that the pitch up motion is a bit exaggerated in its current form. Secondly I noticed that if you fire a prolonged burst the noise changes pitch suddenly after a few seconds. Is this because the gun slows down the rate of fire due to a drop in hydraulic pressure, or to prevent barrel overheating? Tom

That sounds interesting. Is it simply a case of selecting one GBU from the DSMS page, defining a SPI , selecting another GBU, defining another SPI etc then ripple drop the lot? Cheers Tom

That's OK, I thought as much Tom

Just to take this thread a little further, once you have read back the 9 line and WILCO'd the point data on the TAD I can see the red triangle however if I go to the MSG page all I can see is the titles of the 9-line with no content ie. IP: HDG: DIST: ELEV: DESC: etc I assume this is a bug, or am I missing something. Cheers Tom

Hi, yet another question. When returning to Nellis after flying the 'Shooting gallery' mission I hit '\' to get to the radio commands and selected 'ATC' however the options for available ATCs were black and both showing a freq of 0MHz. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Thanks Tom

Locating targets tasked by JTAC
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Actually you can. Make TAD SOI, then slew cursor to a point on the map (does not have to be an icon) and TMS right short to designate. (In the manual TMS right short is labeled a 'Mark Point' but it seems to create a SPI at the location ) Hope this helps Tom -
Strange occurance on landing
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I did, but it didn't play back correctly. Tom -
Hi, I just flew a fantastic mission armed with 6 Mavs (65H) and 4 GBU12's, I managed to lock and fire all 6 mavs at a convoy of tanks in one pass, 4 hit 2 missed. Then took the remainder out with GBU's and the GAU. However when landing, when my speed got down below 50 the Hog tipped back onto his tail and dragged his backside along the runway like a dog with worms. Spooling up the engines got her back on 3 wheels only to do it again when slowing down again. Any ideas what happened? Cheers Tom

Thanks Wags, how stupid do I feel now! Tom

Hi I was flying a training mission and had 6 Mk82Air loaded, I located a convoy of BMPs and decided to try a ripple drop flying down the line of vehicles. I went in to the DSMS and selected both racks of MK82Air's then pressed 'Prof' to set the profile, changed 'SNGL' to 'RIP SNG' and then tried to set the 'RIP QTY' and 'FT' settings however these wouldn't change. Am I doing something wrong, I thought I understood the manual on this but I obviously missed something. Cheers Tom

Locating targets tasked by JTAC
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I cant help but think there must be a quick way of entering a co ord like MM271493 into the UFC and pressing one button which adds an icon to the TAD. Tom -
Hi, I really hope someone can help me here. I have made a simple mission with a column of hostile vehicles and a JTAC. I sign in with the JTAC and requese a 9 line brief. He supplies then kindly me with the location of the hostiles. I create a new waypoint using the CDU, however I am stuck because I can not for the life of me create a steerpoint from the waypoint. I have used the following procedure to create the waypoint Select the Waypoint page on CDU Select the Copy to available mission point (LSK R7) Enter the elevation of the new waypoint in feet using the keypads/scratchpad and press the LSK next to the elevation field (LSK L5). Change the co-ord system from L/L to UTM (LSK R9) Enter thegrid reference of the new waypoint using the keypads/scratchpad and press LSK9. 4. Label the WP TARGET1 LSK next to the name field. This process successfully stores the WP to the database, however when I try to set the new WP as a steerpoint I get stuck. I set the AAP Page selector to STEER, this displays the STRINFO page with the current steerpoint selected. The manual states that I should be able to change the steerpoint to any of the stored waypoints. However I cant seem to use any of the suggested methods, for example Enter the waypoint name or number, well, I type the TA and TARGET1 appears in the scratchpad, but for the life of me I cant seem to enter it. In addition the manual states on page 448 that 'With the HUD as SOI, you may also press DMS Left and Right to cycle through waypoints' this dosent seem to work either. can anyone shed some light on this for me. More to the point am I going around this the wrong way? is there an easier way to locate targets given a grid reference. Thanks for any help Tom

Looking at the image in your last post you are running the 64bit exe. You need to run the 32 bit install called DCS A-10C_x86 Tom

Please help me understand the TGP
Frogfoot1606687865 replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Mastiff, thanks for that, however I have read and re-read that section earlier, but it doesn't explain why sometimes pressing TMS up does not select the tracking modes. It could be a bug, but I think I am missing something. Tom -
Hi, now that I have had a few hours on the A10-C things are starting to make sense. However I am struggling with one thing in particular. When using the TGP I can get it working and zoom in, pan around etc however when it comes to selecting point tracking mode to 'lock up' a vehicle it only seems to work about 75% of the time. I'm sure it must be me so what are the pre-requisites for enabling point track mode. Apart from that little annoyance I am having a blast. Cheers Tom
