reported LOST cue is updated based on A/C parameters, not the missile.
MARLAN_ replied to MARLAN_'s topic in Bugs and Problems
@BIGNEWYAny news on this getting reported to the team it's still showing investigating, or the other similar thread? Is more evidence needed? From my limited knowledge I would think the ranging is probably a straight forward change assuming the team has the current AIM-120 physics modeling easily available? The LOST cue could possibly store/freeze the A/C parameters at launch as a temporary variable? Just 2 shots in the dark, just hoping the issues can get reported! Thanks! -

reported LOST cue is updated based on A/C parameters, not the missile.
MARLAN_ replied to MARLAN_'s topic in Bugs and Problems
LOST cue should display when the MC does not predict an intercept due to kinematics. For example, shooting outside of RMAX, or shooting inside RMAX, but then the bandit drags, defeating your missile. Currently, this calculation is based on your ownship aircraft parameters, and not your missile in flight, so it will incorrectly display LOST when you begin your crank. The NIRD Ranges are also inaccurate, but that's posted in a different topic https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/286632-nird-circle-range-points-are-not-accurate-eg-rmaxrne/#comment-4821965 -

Yes, but this is a different issue. -
The LOST cue is updated based on A/C parameters, instead of the missile. This means that if you launch a missile on the edge of RMAX (for example) and then crank in any direction, you will immediately get a LOST cue, despite the missile being fine, this is due to your nose causing your WEZ to move, even though the missile is already in flight. This can be very confusing to anyone unaware of the bug, thinking their missiles are lost when they are not. If you watch the NIRD circle, the LOST cue is displayed as soon as it moves up past RMAX LOSTcue.trk

The range points are not accurate, I have only tested RMAX but I would not be surprised if other markers are also inaccurate (RAERO, RNE, RMIN). I believe this is from the AIM-120 FM update (from long ago) and the MC/NIRD ranges were not updated as well. In the track file I show a launch that exceeds RAERO but still intercepts at M1.84 In a different test, the launch exceeds RMAX and intercepts at M2.42. Also note, due to this, LOST is displayed even though the shot is valid. NIRDRanges.trk 184Tacview-20211111-040007-DCS.zip.acmi 242Tacview-20211111-034642-DCS.zip.acmi

I guess you didn't read the part that said "not my video" Anyway, the point was out of like 200 missiles only 30 or whatever managed to intercept (clearly I'm not counting them), this discussion is not about tactics. Switchology and error in missile employment can be a factor, but it is not the only reason why an AMRAAM is missing consistently right now, they are definitely bugged/tuned incorrectly. -

Changes to overload wingbreak mechanic in Beta 2.7.7.15038
MARLAN_ replied to Preendog's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I've talked to a retired F18 pilot in great depth on the paddle, since it seems to be such a huge topic in the DCS community when it really should not be. It comes down to essentially, the official, proper use, is to prevent a CFIT scenario, and everything else is "it depends". If you can explain why you did it, you'll be fine. Pilots do not train to using it in combat, because you do not train to damage your airframe. They train to win without needing to break the jet. That said, there are absolutely combat scenarios where you'd need to pull the paddle, and you're most likely going to have command agree with you. For example, to prevent an in-close missile from hitting you where all other measures failed, or perhaps you merge with an advanced enemy like a Felon, maybe a Flanker sneaks up behind you. All of these cases are extremely rare/unheard-of in real world (currently), but in DCS they are common occurrences, and certainly plausible real world as well if things got bad. Regardless, the discussion is not about when/why to use the paddle, it's a feature that exists, and the F/A-18C engineers who designed the aircraft, and tested it, absolutely did not design in a self-destruct switch on first use. As per my track/Tacview, you can't even use it in a CFIT scenario or your wings come off. -

I don't know if I believe that flying pure pursuit in a jamming situation is entirely realistic. It can't acquire range, and it's most likely going to have a lower quality intercept, but it should be able to extrapolate lead based on target movement to some degree. Like how a Sidewinder is able to pull lead despite obviously not having range, since it is IR only. - I do agree with everything else you said, the terminal phase of the AMRARAM is extremely poor, and notching effect should be reduced as range decreases. -

Classic CFIT recovery, 9.3 G pulled for less than 1 second, clean wings, no previous stress (Caucasus Instant Action Free Flight), left wing detonates. Tacview-20211108-233400-DCS.zip.acmi WingsSnap2.trk -
Wishlist for the next helicopter after AH64D
MARLAN_ replied to dr.barber's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'm very excited for upcoming DCS Core improvements! I personally would love to see DCS core focus in 2022, and totally finishing existing modules/bug crushing instead of new modules, that said, I'm not sure if the current business model supports not releasing new modules sadly. -

In the video the jet is clean wings, this is the Caucasus instant action free flight. The jet would never snap its wings off immediately like that spiking 10G for half a second. -
The AI LSO grading is all over the place, either graded way way way too optimistically, or way way way too harshly with no middle ground in-between. An OK pass is a once or twice in a career type deal, it's common practice to get an OK on your final tour trap, and of course for any insane circumstances. Likewise, a -C> pass is also a two or three time in a career type deal, if you keep getting cut passes, they aren't going to let you continue flying.

Would be very nice if in addition to the "salute" command, there was also a "launch" command. Catapult will not launch you until you select launch. Will greatly help with timing covey launches, and for the reasons you mention above. While they're at it, add an "abort" command which will allow you to detach without needing to respawn.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZY7DoJ3OkcSKlb3EYV4XZA8b7TLGta-e/view?usp=sharing Video of wings breaking off in 10 seconds of flight. I am, of course, *trying* to break off the wings here, but that should not be possible in 10 seconds of flight, it should require sustained stress and prolonged high G, unless you somehow spike a crazy high G like 15-20+ they might snap off instantly. -

MARLAN_ replied to DSplayer's topic in Weapon Bugs
Had a flight today where 5/9 launches were trashed due to the AIM-120C failing to intercept All missiles were supported to PITBULL, two of them supported to TIMEOUT and still missed. 55% chance for a missile to miss for no other reason than the missile failing tot intercept is absolutely awful. These were AI so they were not executing drag maneuvers, nor were we shooting outside of LAR (the actual LAR, not what the NIRD displays, since that is not accurate since ~1-2 years ago when 120C model was adjusted, but that's a different matter entirely...). Edit: This was versus MiG-29 -
Transition from Engine Power to Ground Power
MARLAN_ replied to Captain Orso's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
1. Park / Parking Brake -> APPLY 2. Ground Crew -> Ground Power to ON 3. BATT -> ORIDE 4. EXT PWR -> RESET (Hold for ~3 seconds, GEN TIE warning should disappear) 5. L & R Throttle -> OFF 6. GND PWR 3 -> B (Hold for ~3 seconds) 7. GND PWR 1/2/4 -> B 8. BATT -> OFF This seems to work? As for the reverse: 1. APU -> ON (Wait for Green light) 2. ENG CRANK -> R 3. R Throttle -> IDLE (At >15% RPM) 4. BATT -> ON (Wait for engine RPM to stabilize) 5. ENG CRANK -> L 6. L Throttle -> IDLE (At >15% RPM) 7. Ground Crew -> Ground Power to OFF -

Changes to overload wingbreak mechanic in Beta 2.7.7.15038
MARLAN_ replied to Preendog's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
The instant wing breakage AKA: kill switch implemented at high G is completely unrealistic and feels to me like a "balance" change to prevent people from "gaming" the sim. Hopefully it's not! Maybe getting fixed soon... But that's what it feels like right now. This effect can also destroy your wings even without using paddle, flying through wake can cause a very short period of high G (~8G) which will break your wings instantly. This would never happen IRL. Over-G stress can certainly cause a lot of damage, up to wing breakage, but not immediately like how it is right now, especially at around 9G. Over-G stress should cause other consequences first... such as performance loss over time, fuel leaks/FCS failures/other system failures, etc. and THEN break off wings entirely (unless of course, you pull a LOT G like 12+ sustained for some time, which generally the FCS won't allow you to do anyways in most cases...) -

You can semi-permanently set up a custom CMDS profile by editing the .lua file located in DCS\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Cockpit\Scripts\TEWS\device\CMDS_ALE47.lua I recommend using the OVGME Mod Manager.
