  1. Yea, this arena is definitely niche. Interesting how you have one guy who has a $100,000 home built high fidelity pit flying along side another guy on a laptop and single MS Sidewinder 3D Pro.

  3. Understand regarding maps such as Normandy 44, but what about the content of the maps. Objects in particular populating the map(s) ranging from buildings/landscape to moving vehicles/armor/infantry, to horse drawn carts... life in 1944. I guess if EDs focus is building "worlds" across time periods and can successfully add life to those worlds, it will work.
  4. One thing that is going to get weird here is the idea of the environment. The world for which you will fly WWII planes vs modern aircraft in DCS. Basically, ED will need to develop an entire world set in 1944 including cities, towns, buildings, roads, vehicles, life... that match the time period. The ground has to match the period aircraft, otherwise the simulation will simply miss an entire aspect of the experience and fall flat. Couple that we the modern aircraft world, and its simply a conflict of time period. Beyond the aircraft, developing the worlds for where those aircraft fly realistically is going to be a daunting task for ED. I simply do not see it happening.... and believe its best to stick with one time period and build a flight simulated world around that period. ED/DCS World is modern...not 1944.

Question though, prior to triple (softTH) in DCS, I has SweetFX running with the mod "PeterP HDR & SweetFX & Mustang Clouds" Is it possible to run SoftTH and the SweetFX mod together in DCS and if so, can someone list the steps or point to post where perhaps this is already addressed? ~S~ wind
  6. Attempting to fly Mendelev (sp?) Campaign and am on mission 6 I believe where the task is to take out a radar site while flying in poor/foggy weather. Onscreen, the poor weather/fog looks horrible with distinct lines seen between what appears to be where fog starts and stops. Also, I can see trees though the fog, but I see all trees as compared to a gradual fade to fog only. Of course there is a fairly heavy FPS hit, but I was able to improve this with some AA adjustments to scale down. Getting about 25 fps now when looking into fog where as before was getting 11. When external and looking down at ground though, I can get 45+fps. So its only when looking out at fog when the heavy fps hit occurs. Was attempting to search forum for related issues and to see if there are any workarounds or ways to improve fog rendering. If I could get rid of the distinct line between where the fog starts and ends, that would be a great first step. Or if there are posts up in the forum on this topic, some links would be great!. Note, even if there was a profile I could set up to use specifically for fog/poor weather action, that would be cool. Specs: DCS W 1.2.8 All graphics settings basically high/extreme. Ingame vsynch, MS, TSAA off. Nvidia Inspector profile: MS 2x, 4x sparse grid SS, AF off, etc... ~S~ wind

  8. Online sounds great, but I am very active online in il2 thus not sure if I could devote the time to two+ online sims. Wife, kids, job, life, etc... However, DCS offline was quite good and if I had to run out for something, the Pause button works great. As of change in DCS, I am wondering now that World is released and basically stable, if there is much more that will change in the mission builder/campaign builder? Or perhaps, an effort can be made to allow compatibility with World campaign design to avoid the risks of change designers fear. All in all, there were some nice old offline campaigns back in the day, and it seemed a relatively robust campaign design community. Hope it comes back! Perhaps ED needs to run a new World Campaign Design Competition like they did back in the old days to spur offline campaign development?!   9. hello all, I have had DCS BS since the beginning as well as the A-10c. Back in the "old days" of BS there were many new offline missions and campaigns released with the pinnacle 3rd party offline being the VERGEEV Group Campaign. Since release of DCS World and the module integration, we seem to have lost not only these old campaigns, but it seems that campaign designers are no longer focused on producing new entries in World. Is there a reason for the lack of offline Campaign opportunities? I jump into DCS every once in a while to keep sharp on cockpit operation and flight stick button memory, but its only the few packaged missions and few replayed included campaigns. Immersive offline campaigns were the real draw in the old days, and I miss checking in here on the forum to find new submissions. Thus, has the glory days of offline campaign design ended with release of DCS World, or are the designers simply holding out for something?? Or, am I looking in the wrong place for offline campaign ops for World?? ~S~ wind

  11. Given latest updates in World, which would provide better fps with visual quality, in-game setting choices or nvidia inspector? Note, I am running a GTX 670. Currently, I am running with nvidia inspector controlling DCS, but was wondering if latest updates warrant switching to in-game settings. Also, the screen captures seen during the World install look quite stunning. Wondering what are the settings when these images were taken, or were they "enhanced" with an image editor to really tighten them up?

  13. Quick question: I reinstalled BS1 and it runs fine. I can launch, fly around in the old 1.0 game, no problem. Thus, this tells me that I have a good original activation (from original cd install). Now with 1.2.1, I install the update version. Its installs with no issues. I try to fly a BS quick and am prompted for the activation key entry. My key is in the input field by default and matches the red key showcased on the web site for the BS Update download. Thus, I have a valid key for bs 2 update, and I have a working/running vanilla install of BS1 v1.0. However, I get the "fault" error when attempting to run BS 2 from World. Not sure where to go from here, but do not really want to do more uninstalls/installs. Ive done it all "twice" but to no avail. Note, this dance worked with no issues when I updated to v1.2.0?! hmmmm...?!
  14. I too experiencing Activation Issue with BS. Reinstalled BS1, then attempted to install BS 2 update for latest world and installs, but when I try to fly a quick mission, I get the activation prompt and it says something about an "integrity fault..." Thus, no joy on flying the Shark in latest build... :(

  16. I saw noticible improvement with FXAA and adaptive Vsynch in BS2 and A10C, running on GTX 295. Requires more flight time though to really see if this is a keeper, though from initial runs, looks good!
  17. On startup, I "forget" how to turn on the weapons stations. I see that when I run the startup cheat, something turns on the station lights and defaults to the round count of 24. When I do a manual startup, from lots of experience with BS1, I do not remember the switch or function which turns on the lights. Note, I do know how to select either station (outer or inner), but do not know how to get it to light up on startup. thx!
  18. Have to ask: I see in the BS2 Docs folder there is a PDF of an X-52 profile. Is that profile included somewhere where I can load it in BS2 (not a pr0 but rather lua profile file specifically built for the X52 pro and BS)? Basically ditch the Saitek BS profile and rather employ one directly in BS2. Perhaps all my issues with the X52 relate to loading a Saitek profile for BS2??
  19. Another problem I had with the X52 Pro was strange behavior with key/button binds. For example, when attempting to select a weapons station which I had mapped on the x52 to the throttle hat Y axis, sometimes it would work and sometimes not. Or rather, in the HUD I would see the icon for Vickers, but no digital readout on the front panel. Master Arm was on, and I simply could not fire weapon. Did Alt-Tab, or Cnt/Alt/Del and then went back ingame and sometimes this would fix the problem. Basically, the x52 profile acted strangely in BS2. Sometimes things works and other times they did not. On the sidewinder, its a simpler stick with all direct mappings from the stick to in-game function. Luckily for BS flight/fight, I do not need as many HOTAS settings as A-10C which I originally got my X52 Pro for (A10C has too much required for the HOTAS to easily match on a single Sidewinder-type stick). All in all, I tried dead zones, and curves on the X52 in BS but it simply is not smooth. You exit the deadzone and Wham, erratic nose pitch even with curves set as aggressive as 30+. No worries though, the X52 works great for all other flight sims I have (including A-10c), and for BS2 I will have a dust free MS Sidewinder Pro!
  20. Gave up on the X52 Pro for Blackshark. Near complete unusable flight stick for the sim. I went back to my old trusty MS Sidewinder Pro for BS2, and it works great. No more crazy nose pitches and constant fight with keeping the Shark flying true with the X52pro. Sucks that the X52Pro has such poor performance with BS since I will miss all the bindings; however, luckily I have plenty of buttons on the MS Sidewinder, and I remember my old profile from when I flew BS1 with this stick. Back in biz for BS2, and now hopefully some mission completes!
  21. Anyone out there using an X52 Pro have recommended Axis Tuning settings for X and Y? The default is very sharp on the X52Pro with Y axis especially bad for pitch up or down. When I give a little bit of stick input forward, the nose dips very strongly even with the AP assist buttons selected. I used to use an old MS Sidwinder for BS which worked great; but wore out and now I have the X52 Pro, which is nice but on BS, they cyclic is very "twitchy." Perhaps, I can play with the curves, but I am not sure which affects what.
  22. Here are screens from my Alt Tab FPS boosts running the instant action insurgents mission. NOTE: for clarification, in the two sets of images, the order is reversed. The first one of the set, is post Alt-Tab, while the second image in the set is what is seen at mission launch (pre Alt-Tab).
  23. Where are screenies saved when hitting "Print Screen?" I am attempting to post the FPS boost seen on my rig using Alt Tab. I simply go from about 19 fps to 30+ with the alt tab. However, I cannot find the screen grabs. Note, I am running this test on the Instant Action Insurgents mission. Basically soon after loading ingame, I hit printscreen and record repeated range under 20 fps. After Alt-Tab, wihen returning with HDR now on, I am seeing 30+ fps. Note, though this boost may not be universal. I tried it in the Georgian War campaign, and did not really see a FPS boost. Seems like it is erratic and not a consistent case.
  24. Yea, actually I think it is working ok for me too. Anyone know has to set in-cockpit zoom to the mouse wheel axis?
  25. ok, perhaps it is working, though I may be used to higher res pits from mods such as Ricardos. Anyone know how to assign the mouse wheel to cockpit view zoom?
