Patch 1.2.1 for "LockOn: Flaming Cliffs 2"
WindWpn replied to Ulrich's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I ran the patch installer, though I do not see where to identify the version number in the UI once the sim is loaded. Please advise. -
I guess the next one coming to the table will be the Vergeev Group campaign; however, I was wondering if there are any other new robust, immersive, and realistic SP campaigns out there? The Missions/Campaigns Directory has not been updated since April 6 with "Dogs of War." Currently, I have the following: GOW Republic Georgian Havoc Deployment Burning River Vergeev Demo thx!

The stupidiest thing you're done in BS
WindWpn replied to RapidFir3's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Locked up a tank in the Shkval, zoomed in the view, while hearing Betty calling that I was being painted by enemy radar. I did nothing, but lobbed HE rounds watching the impacts around the tank, when "puff!" A tank round fires, and the next second, I am singing to the virtual angels with a dead logbook profile. -
Anyone Running a Profile with Invulnerability Set to False?
WindWpn replied to WindWpn's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Well, I died mopping up leftovers in mission 4 of Republic. I got sloppy stared down the barrel of a Georgian T-80 in the Shkval while throwing HE rounds at it... saw the tank barrel smoke flash, then "Bam!" I was gone! Time to try again! -
Anyone Running a Profile with Invulnerability Set to False?
WindWpn replied to WindWpn's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Republic is not bad, though the briefings are not super detailed and being in Russian, I can not read the map text on the visual side of the brief. Though, the text side is detailed and I do have a fairly good picture of what I need to do and intel prior to takeoff. Would be nice though if the visual briefs were more like Georgian Havoc. Very nice briefs in that campaign! As for progress so far, Republic is "spin dynamic?" kind of like Georgian Oil War where missions seem to cycle around depending upon success percentage of the mission just completed. For example I got a "mission success" on mission 1, but on mission 2, I got shot up pretty bad, aborted and flew home. Landed safely and survived, but I guess failed the mission. For Mission 3, it looks like I am going to repeat Mission 1. No worries though, as I am alive and will carry on. With "invulnerability" set to false, you definitely have to consider "gutsy" moves, and if you take hits, well time to abort and head back to base. Of course, you have to land too with a wounded 50! Fun times! :) Regarding "Spin Dynamic" (I just made this term up), I like it for handling failed missions. Rather than repeat the same mission over and over if you fail, it is cool to load a different mission at some sort of random parameter? I have only seen this in Georgian Oil War and Republic, but its a cool immersion dynamic to creating campaigns. Recommend it for campaign creators out there. -
Was wondering if anyone is running a profile with Invulnerability set to false, and how far you have made it, either successful campaign completion(s) or rank. I have been flying a long time, have the ka-50 controls and tactics down fairly well, and I just started a new profile with invulnerability set to false. Flying Republic campaign and so far so good.

Can't believe it took me so long to find this!

Also be sure to check out the Mods directory and recommendations! Really takes BS to a new level, even beyond stock BS!! Great stuff! -
Coming from Falcon...Will I be disappointed?
WindWpn replied to robmypro's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hopefully, if there is one improvement to the DCS series beyond offering more content to fly, it would be the inclusion of interactive comms at a level found similar to Falcon. -
Coming from Falcon...Will I be disappointed?
WindWpn replied to robmypro's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
You know what really gives Falcon it's soul? Its the AI comms immersion. There is no other sim out there with the level of feeling you are there actively interacting with AI from wingmen to ATC, to Chalis 3/FAC. All in all, I have all of them from IL2 UP2.01, DCS:BS, FalconAF, FF5+, FSX, LockOn FC2, and none other than Falcon offer that feeling of simply being there interacting with AI "people." The comms in Falcon is the magic. DCS BS comes close with user created campaigns such as Georgian Havoc with the custom comms, but it is scripted where in Falcon when I call to "Request Picture" the response is real time, specific and immerse. The "Good Morning" on calling Inbound in Falcon and the detailed ATC procedures all add to a feeling of being there. Its all about the comms in falcon which gives it its unique soul, at least for me. -
Enemy fear. Basically a mod in IL2 has guys running from AAA nests and convoys when diving in for a strafing or bombing pass. With the close in action flying the Hog or SU-25, even the BS, it would be cool to see guys running out of convoy vehicles or AAA nests, etc if a Hog is blazing in ready to fire off rockets or the gun!

I have been flying the opening A-10 campaign missions and while on route to target I recently had a few SAM launches at me. I knew the direction of the threat from the RWR, and would always beam the incoming missile, but I would never see it until it exploded. Often I would see it explode as a fireball short of my plane as I remained on the edge/outside the SAM envelope, but I would never see a smoke trail and/or the incoming missile. I do have the following mods installed: Thanks for any advice.

Hello all, Well I took the dive from DCS BS and picked up FC2 over the weekend! After two days of reading all the visual configuration posts and recommendations both for settings and mods, I now have FC2 looking visually stunning and returning quite acceptable FPS rates on my "high end" machine. Interestingly, it is fun simply working the system to get visuals perfect. Now onto the action, I am starting with the A-10 as the first plane to fly. I have set up all my keyboard controls and stick axis for the plane and have begun the first campaign. I successfully completed the first mission and on RTB, I called Inbound and got back a response from the ATC. I flow the vector and altitude, but then all was quiet... I kept flying and flying, but still no response. I called "Landing" and again no response. Calling "Inbound" again got a response, but similar to the first, it simply set me on a vector to Final, but did not call out the turn for landing. I decided to simply fly in and land myself, and while on final, once I dropped gear, the ATC came back on the air and said something, that I now forget. All in all though, it seems that after I called "Inbound" the ATC correctly set me on a vector to Final, but did not call out the turn vector once I reached the turn point. Is this a bug or something I am missing in FC2 ATC ops?

Or get both?! Well here is my current preference/experience. I have FSX, FalconAF and FF5, IL2 UP2.0n, and of course DCS BS. I have LockOn MAC, but have not installed it on my current hardware (i7950, GTX295, 12gb ram, Vista U, TrackIR 4+) as I really did not get into LOMAC on my old hardware, as it was kind of slow, and did not have clickable cockpits for all the modern aircraft controls. Since DCS BS, I am a huge fan and spoiled by the high fidelity cockpit experience. FalconAF also has it, even if I have to switch to the 2D to click switches and buttons (though FF5 has 3D clickable), as well as FSX, though FSX is kind of squirrelly and I rarely fly it. IL2 UP2.0 is great even if I can not click anything, in the WWII planes there are not many key combos to remember since the planes are "easy to fly" without all the electronics of modern aircraft. UP2.0n also have 6DOF which is really nice. So, along comes FC2.0. I am tempted to get it, but am wondering if I will be disappointed since I will I need to learn a bunch of key combos, and cannot click switches/buttons onscreen? The visuals look awesome, but I get a similar experience in DCS BS and IL2 UP2.0n. Note, I am definitely getting DCS A-10C as soon as it is available! However, for the "spoiled" simmer from all the 6DOF, clickable pit sims out there, should I get FC2.0 as well? Is learning all the key combos worth it?

Cool! Interesting to see the RL pics and "know" basically what every button and switch does! Though, I wonder what the blacked out thing to the left of the HUD is...?
-
Often when I am killed during a flight, I see a missile coming in one second, then the next I am in F2 external viewing the cockpit glass blown out or shattered, damage on the airframe, and the crippled Blackshark dropping towards the deck. However, the pilot still looks happy with a smile, and no injuries. Was wondering if there is a mod out there which models a dead pilot in the pit? Perhaps a blood and gore mod would be cool similar to what is found in IL2?

Yea, not sure why it does not work. Perhaps you can PM me a "working" copy of the working mis file (one verified as working correct) so I can update my set to run a test. thx!

Here is a screen shot of the completion of destroying all targets for Anti-Arty. As seen in the shot, all 16 targets are destroyed including the 6 arty vehicles. However, I receive no word as to completion of the mission. When I press ' the results show only 50% complete. Any suggestions?
-
Well, I ended up opening the mission file in the Mission Editor to look at all the enemy units placement, and indeed per the last 30 min circling over the area following destroying everything, I believe I nailed every thing in the mission. I flew very low over the area and definitely could visually identify all destroyed targets by the black craters and burning wreckage. Per the display on the mission editor screen, all were accounted for. I guess I can try again, with perhaps setting fog to 0 just to test it with no fog to take that out of the equation. Only other thing I could think of is that if some of the objects which need to be destroyed are "invisible" as I experienced in Secret Mission with the cargo ships. Though, I left that mod off while continuing the campaign. For those who have successfully destroyed all targets, is there a radio call or some other trigger which is activated once all units are destroyed?
-
Anti-Arty: How to complete mission? Twice I have successfully destroyed all artillery units in and around the airfield, along with all support vehicles, yet I receive not indication of mission progress. On the second flight, after destroying everything, I flew a fairly wide perimeter around the location of the enemy positions including width outlined in the mission planner, but still found no additional units. I circled the area around the enemy zone for over 30 min after destroying everything and received no indication of progress. I even flow directly over the WP 2 marker to see if that kicked in a trigger, no joy. I then flew back to WP1 to see if that kicked in a trigger, no joy. I returned to base, but failed the mission as the stats did not move from 50% complete, even though I destroyed all enemy units at the X airfield. All in all, have others been able to get a "success" on Anti-Arty, and if so, what is the missing piece? If there are units located somewhere I missed, perhaps some sort of trigger would work to either have a SAM site at the second location, or something else to spark awareness that more units exist that must be destroyed.

"Vergeev Group" campaign demo version
WindWpn replied to FGSchtuzer's topic in User Created Missions General
I figured it out. Its tied to a cloud mod which actually notes that the particular cargo ships will be invisible if the mod is enabled. Therefore, before flying this mission, that mod must be disabled to correctly see the ships. The particular mod is named: VKG73 Cirrus Cloud Mod -
Mission 10 - Cannot Find Ships! I use the Map function to set the designated coordinates 35 km west of Batumi; however, I can never find the ships. I have flown the mission numerous time and simply never seen any ships west of Batumi. I have even flown to the markpoint, and then flew east towards Batumi and eventually get taken out by SAM near shore. All the way no ships! Was wondering if anyone else has any issues finding the ships, of if they should be there if you fly the mark at 35 km west of Batumi. Actually, I found why I cannot find the ship: anyone have a suggestion? EDIT: Ok, figured it out. Its a high res cloud mod, which actually states in the mod man info that it effects these ship and recommends disabling if a mission is flown which requires the ships. Doh! Ok, ran mission and saw ships! Got waxed by the F16s, but at least I think I can complete this one now! Until I can try again.

"Vergeev Group" campaign demo version
WindWpn replied to FGSchtuzer's topic in User Created Missions General
Cool, yea in RL you will not have subtitles displaying, unless perhaps you are flying an F-35?! Also, I forgot to mention yesterday, the ship in mission 2 was invisible where the "action" occurs (do not want to spoil). I could see the forward and aft water wakes, but no ship. Perhaps its a missing texture or something in my system, but did others notice this? -
"Vergeev Group" campaign demo version
WindWpn replied to FGSchtuzer's topic in User Created Missions General
Yea, subtitles would be great! I am about to start mission three, and in the first two, I heard radio chatter but was unsure of all of it. Subtitles would be great to "see" along with hearing what is being said. great start so far though! -
What kind of aircraft do you wan't to see next?
WindWpn replied to d0ppler's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Regarding the "realism" in DCS; I guess there is a "Catch 22" here where current modern aircraft platforms could likely not be modeled? Take any modern fighter, or even attack chopper, if some aspect of that platform is "classified" then we cannot see it in-game? I guess I am wondering if there simply is no way around a certain level of "creative license" when creating "realistic" modern aircraft sims. As noted, "survey sims" may be the term for a DCS: F-35, or for that matter a DCS: F-16 MLU, Eurofighter, etc...? Bottom line is that much could likely be accurately simulated, but certain aspects may have to be "creatively guessed" or approved to create as accurate a model as possible. I am all for realism, and definitely do not want to see implementations which are way off base, but I believe the real selling point for DCS is the high fidelity of the 3D fully accessible cockpit and flight modeling, along with terrain detail and the simulated combat experience. Really, the fully clickable 3D high res-cockpit does it for me. DCS: Blackshark is simply the best out there for really getting into the cockpit and feeling like you are in full control of the aircraft (blows FSX away for simply the "cockpit experience"). However, if there was some aspect of the ABRIS which is classified, and DCS had to "creatively model" that element, we would likely never know, since its classified. I guess if only full realism is the avenue (which I am not against), then perhaps following the A-10, other "retired" or soon to be retired aircraft come to mind such as the F-14, or even the F-117, though perhaps some aspects of the F-117 remain classified even though it has been retired. Of course there are the Gen 2 or Gen 3 aircraft which likely could be fully modeled. All in all, I/we all look forward to every new module of DCS which comes online, and as soon as it does, I definitely will be updating my DCS sim! -

WindWpn replied to d0ppler's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Note, another "sim" area of interest could be UAV? How about a sim piloting a UAV for ground attack/recon? With that level of down and dirty, I guess the ground AI and immersion would need to be top notch.
