Great list KL0083. BTW, big fan of your skins That would depend on which stage of the KW you are referring to. From your list, it would be like the initial stages, I.e. Chosin Resevour Ambush. If that's the case, the list would be too long, with so many captured Japanese, US, and custom creations. And have no vechiles. I suppose I was thinking more after the first year, when the battles finish seasawing across the 38th parallel, and evolved from mobile to to trench warfare. Had an old book called Formidable Enemies, and the list I provided above was the overall standard after more direct Soviet assistance. That list is roughly the set from '51 to the end of the war, I.e for about the 5 remainder campaigns of the 6 in total.

You are right. That's fair.

I hope it would be F-13, J-7G. Also want MiG-21MF, but that would best be done by Mag3 since it is similar to Bis. F-13 because it is the most basic, and I like basic. I agree with WinterH, it is the sleekest looking non J-7 variant. Long, slim canopy with tapered nose. Had something like a bubble canopy, and even though rear view was bad. Also agree with WinterH, F-13 the most maneuverable, but only against non J-7 variants. It started the hit and runs in 'nam. Not so much of a fan of the middle PFs. They looked ugly, with bulky nose and feminine waist. Also had no guns. The MF was cool because according to the book Clashes, it was historically the variant where VPAF aces turned off their radars and relied on low, slow stalking with camo, using eyeballs and GCI receiver only to look up and find F-4 smoke trails, before the hit and runs. It's got the cred for being the mount of the pilots that reached that level of skill.

I think you got a response in your separate but similar thread. Someone mentioned what I forgot which is that the double delta late version most likely has a modern cockpit, which would make copy and paste from Mag3 even less relevant than what I posted previously. Me personally, I kinda like the idea that Deka takes on each module on its own and adds its own flavour to it.

In terms of esthetics, I prefer the early J-8 more than the later one. Kinda like the double ventral fins, and tube fuselage. If I had my choice though of all Chinese designed planes, my pref is the Q-5. Just like small, simple, little go carts, under 50 ft in length, and 20000 lbs. And looking at the math, that thing was almost as maneuverable as the MiG-19, but with longer range. I would wager it was more maneuverable than the F-5, with its larger wing and fowler flaps. There are some Pakistani accounts that the Q-5 best Mirages in their dogfight tests, causing a lot of stress for Dassault.

I suspect any collaboration would mostly benefit some aspects of the cockpit, and underlying 3D and code. The Bis flys very differently from the MiG-21 F-13, that the J-7 is based. And the later J-7 with double delta flies differently from the F-13. Some experts compare the F-5E-1 to the MiG-21F-13, although I think this is partially true. They may stalemate in a dogfight, but the F-5 is lighter and the F-13 has better T/W ratio, so it is like turn radius vs turn rate balancing out. The Bis is a far worse turner than the F-13 since it is heavier, with more stuff crammed in. The later J-7 should be a way better turn fighter than the F-5, sinc wit has both the double delta and the T/W. So Magnitude may not really provide any thing useful for reuse in terms FM.

If I can add to the request, for the soldiers, would we be able to get both winter and summer versions?

Concerns about G-Onset and Damage to wings
LowRider88 replied to ElvisDaKang's topic in Bugs and Problems
Still plan to try this out. Just taking a break from DCS to catch the Winter Games. Should be trying this in a week or two. -
not planned Why can't the IFF function be added?
LowRider88 replied to travelaround's topic in DCS: F-5E
I prefer DCS stick to the Sim crowd. It is too difficult to cater to both audiences with a single platform. It is false advertising to dumb down the platform, and the other audience has other options out there like CoreBlunder. Something so basic as opening a bug report is made so difficult because it necessarily has to be done on an open forum, and gets challenged by folks too accustomed to arcade playing. -
I hope they rework the 3D model for the MiG-15. It's side profile looks inaccurate. The fuselage should look like a cigar, but instead looks like a teardrop. Too tapered in the back. Like a shortened MiG-17. Don't even want to fly it because I can't enjoy the play back.

F-5E AI FM Flies Like A UFO
LowRider88 replied to LowRider88's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
From my other tests, the worse UFO behavior seems to come from the F-5, the Viggen, and th AV-8. However, I don't have flight manuals for the others. But Viggen pulls long number of seconds over 9Gs, and AV-8 out turn rates both MiG-19 and F-5. -

Your video is interesting also for another reason. You also get the flashing black half screen (immediately after your take off) as I see when flying certain planes and maps. Not sure if that has been raised as a bug yet. -

Thanks MAXsenna, I will try the same this weekend. Although I requested, I'm sure I'm not the only one though who will also try. -

Yep, that's what I meant. How did you do it? Can you post a vid? I can try to reproduce on my end if you show me how. -
Concerns about G-Onset and Damage to wings
LowRider88 replied to ElvisDaKang's topic in Bugs and Problems
This definitely does not happen in single player. Seems to be a multiplayer bug. Some say it is due to accumulate damage after spawning. Would be good to know how many spawns prior to this. Video poster also mentioned he was shot at. Plane should not be flyable after the wings are gone. No ailerons for rolling, and no lift. -
Hi Beirut, Another reason may be because the F-5 was mainly targeted for the Military Assistance Program, I.e. for foreign buyers. Mid range missiles may have been off limits for sale (except for high priority customers like South Korea and Japan for their F-4s), or too expensive, or too unreliable at the time. Maybe 2 missiles also meant the customer would then have to buy more planes. Taiwan was not granted the opportunity to buy F-4s. They would up buying over 200 F-5s to protect their small real estate.

F-5E AI FM Flies Like A UFO
LowRider88 replied to LowRider88's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
For Developers: DCS Version = 2.7.9.18080 This video shows a comparison of the Ace AI FMs for both the DCS F-5E and the F-14A. The F-14 has: Gross Weight = 27,669 kg Engine Thrust with Afterburner = 125 kN Thrust/Weight = (125 * 2 * 1000) / (27,669 * 9.807) = 0.921 So, it has a better T/W ratio over the F-5's ratio of 0.598 Also, when taking into account the wing area between its nacelles, the F-14 has an effective wing loading of about 230 kg/m^2, while the F-5 is worse at 407.919 kg/m^2. Yet, in this video, the F-5E is out-climbing the F-14 and turning tighter without losing speed. Here are some examples: *Time: 2:30 - 3:15 2 circle fight, with 2 head on passes, in both, the F-14 starts with better angle off nose (e.g time 2:45), but at time of head on pass closure, F-5 swings unrealistically and gets a better angle off nose over the F-14 (times 2:54, and 3:15 ). This should not happen when the F-14 has the double advantages of the stats described above. This happens again at timeframe: 8:54 - 9:14. *At 3:46, F-5E pops brakes to prevent itself from overshooting the F-14 in a climb. Again should not be possible by a plane with weaker engines and smaller wings. *At 4:57, the F-5 pops breaks again, then is immediately about to climb straight up to catch up to F-14 at the latter's climb peak and stall. The F-5E should stall well before the F-14, especially when it starts a climb with brakes, is climbing straight up, and only turns on afterburner halfway through the climb. * At times 6:44, 7:31, 8:15 F-5E once again wins 2 circle fight head on pass with better angle off nose. * At time 11:10 - 11:12, the F-5 pulls 7.1 Gs at 13739 ft with only a speed lose from 398kn to 382kn, 16 kn. * At time 15:40 the F-5 is climbing with brakes again, at 15:56, the F-14 stalls and F-5 still able to have nose authority to shoot at it. * Fight ends with F-14 bailing out due to lack of fuel. This also should not happen. The F-14 has turbofan engines while the F-5 has turbojets. Turbofans are more efficient at sub and transonic speeds like these during a dogfight. The F-14 should also have way more fuel capacity. This occurred in the video because the F-5E is retaining too much speed and can climb straight up with brakes on and still catch the F-14 stalling. Given the F-5E's small wings and weak engines, the only way it should be able to shoot at the F-14 is if it can force the F-14 to overshoot through a scissors fight. Instead, the F-5E is able to win a 2 circle fight despite weaker engines and smaller wings. For Developers: DCS Version = 2.7.9.18080 This video shows a comparison of the Ace AI FMs for both the DCS F-5E and the F-14A. Specifically, it is meant to provide a comparison point from the DCS F-5E AI FM to the F-5E Turn Performance Chart FA8-13 (Sheet 2) on page A8-41 (or page 466) of the F-5E NATOPS Flight Manual. In this test, the F-5 and the F-14 are bot set to 50% fuel, so that the F-5 can best match the chart. The F-5 is also loaded with 2 missiles as indicated in the chart. As can be seen in the video, the F-5 is pulling a sustained turn at time 7:19. At this time, the F-5 is showing the following stats: IAS = 352 kn ALT = 5328 ft G = 6.6 Looking that the manual's chart, this should indicate a point in the graph to the right of the 330 KIAS vertical line, and between the 6 G and 7.33 G curved downward sloping lines. This point is well above the Sustained curve. So the DCS F-5E AI FM is able to pull way too much G. -
[CHK] Missiles Stay With Fuselage When Wings Are Shot Off

Thanks for checking UBoats. Flappie has reported this as a generic bug across modules. I think this bug can be closed now. -
Thanks Flappie

reported Missiles Stay With Fuselage When Wings Are Shot Off
LowRider88 replied to LowRider88's topic in Bugs and Problems
Hi Flappie, I don't have a track anymore for this, but I found the same issue for the JF-17, and posted the track for a bug over there. UBoats looked at it and said they could not find anything in their code. So it may be a generic bug across modules, and may be in generic ED code. I will try to post a track this weekend. Hi Uboats, I should also mention that this seems to happen for the F-5E as well, so maybe this is a common bug across modules. -

F-5E AI FM Flies Like A UFO
LowRider88 replied to LowRider88's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
I don't cry when interacting with objective developers. No I disagree, the video end result is an end result, and not what you try to explain it away to be.
