The F5 is really hard mode on the Dogfight server against anyone who knows what they are doing (guns only). Where everyone has IR missiles things are of course evened up a little. Where it shines is in more realistic environments where everyones stuck in their cockpits and its great cockpit visibility and just ease of flying and operation come into play. So far from what I've experienced, in a dogfight between two humans in Mig21s and F5s I think the F5 has the edge.

Their Finest Hour was really THE SIM.. well "sim" is loose here, that originally got me into the flight sim genre and started my interest in world war 2 history really. Later really enjoy Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe and Chuck Yeager's Air Combat was also a favorite. Great summers I missed in my teenage years staying in playing that haha.

Looked just about perfect to me. didn't see your final touchdown speed. Might have been sliiightly fast but you didn't break anything so not much to complain about. I usually keep it at about 350kmh on approach and it looked like you were more at 400, but that doesn't look like it was a problem.

I've only had the 21 for a couple of months, but for me it was always extremely susceptible to high AOA engine flame outs. I pretty much never have them as long as i don't go to really high AOA and slow speeds.

Welcome back! I hadn't played any modern aircraft since Falcon 4.0/Allied Force/Red Viper about 10 years ago until just this year. In the meantime I pretty much only did civilian and world war 2 flight sims. Since upgrading my machine at the beginning of this year I decided to give DCS another shot and well now I own like 6 modules and 3 maps and FC3. It's a fun time despite the bugs here and there you will surely eventually run into. Once I got past the initial familiarization with Russian instrumentation in the SU-25, everything else was pretty easy. At first I was actually pretty impressed how much was modeled even on the "low fi" aircraft. The good hifi stuff with the 90% clickable cockpits and more advanced systems modeling are really fun to learn master and fight with. -
Totally down for this. I am most interested in flying aircraft I've never flown in any other sim, let alone on a study level. I'd take a Tornado IDS first though.

There are multiplayer servers that do sort of a dynamic campaign thing though via mods and scripts, it at least makes you feel much more like you're part of a living breathing war. Most of these are coop against AI but there are also ones which are PVP. -
My nose cone never changes from 20% no matter how fast I'm going.

yeah the accelerated stall does seem to happen too suddenly with too little warning since they last changed the FM

The manual specifically mentions compressor stalls as a feature, which is supposed to cause a loud bang. I'm not sure I've ever heard it either. There is even a switch you're supposed to click when it happens to set control of something to manual to mitigate it.

SU-25T Shkval / Laser-Guided Missile Range Issues

Remember those ranges are the absolute max under optimum conditions. According to wikipedia, the KH25ML range is only 10km. I basically treat them as a bigger Vihkr. The Vihkr range is technically 10km but you normally wont get a good lock before 7 or 8km. -
yeah its just really hard. Like the others said you really need to rely on AWACs or on multiplayer servers, an outside realtime GCI map. As a standalone, the SU27 actually has better SA than the the F15 because it gets a datalink as long as theirs a friendly AWACs in the sky. Oh yeah and definitely use the external views to your target, that helps a lot.

Wait the inlet meter works for you guys? I only ever see it go to 20% when I start the engine and it never moves after that.

chronically underestimate how fast its engine will quit and it will go completely wobbly and fall out of the sky especially at low speed.

Same problem, open beta. It doesn't seem to always occur but when it does its super obvious, unplayable, and as soon as you turn radar off things go back to normal. I'm pretty sure its only happening when the radar sees ground clutter. -
Yes same problem here. My afterburner is this fake as heck looking purple 2d image, the AI planes have normal looking 3d ones which are orange and have the vortex rings or whatever they are called. This can't be right!

I don't know why you expect anything other than an accelerated stall when hitting 38 degrees AOA.

yes, you can lase it from the 25t's built in laser. AFAIK there is no way to use a buddy lase.

I think if you turn "experimental features" on in the special options for the plane, it is supposed to alternate between the 4 lights and a single light showing you the direction when you're launched on, but i've never noticed it. It's a pretty basic RWR. I always assume if all 4 lights are on that theres a good chance theres already a missile in the air.

Anyone else getting ridiculously bad FPS only on this server? (previously to todays patch at least)? Specifically on a merge in the 1v1 area, it will freeze for a split second right when the other guy passes me, and then also randomly would go down to like unplayably bad 15-25fps. Never seen such bad performance in DCS.
