  1. It does not appear to have been updated yet.
  2. Did you activate BS1 as well? You may need to start a mission to invoke activation request. Simply starting to the main menu is not sufficient, as it doesn't require activation.
  3. The tweak allows more "address space" (up to 3GB, instead of 2GB) to be used by applications in 32-bit Windows (if the application explicitely supports it), regardless of the amount of physical memory (RAM). Still, the best thing is to use 64-bit Windows.
  4. DCS-BS2 video from Wags: And one from ED
  5. It would affect your vision and therefore affect flying the Ka-50/A-10/... It surely affects my vision when I'm driving a car ... Definitely something I'd like to see somewhere in the future. (nice to have)
  6. New modules will inevitably break compatibility due to changes of existing features and addition of new features. The question is how ED will handle this from both a technical point of view, and a commercial point of view. Example, you purchase the Nevada terrain module. As I understand it, the Nevada terrain will use a newer graphics engine. Will the new terrain engine be part of an update to BS2/WH1? Will the terrain keep working in all newer versions? I'm beating a dead horse here but ... A possible commercial scheme could include separation of license for DCS engine (graphics, sound, multiplayer, AI ...) and pluggable modules (aircraft, terrain, campaigns ...). To use a module you would need to buy a minimum version of the DCS engine (some modules would need at least DCS 1.1.1, others would need at least DCS 1.3.2, etc.). A big update to a module (e.g. significant expansion of terrain or new features for existing flyable) could be a separate module (and thus require separate license). DCS engine and modules would be supported up to a point where there are no signficant bugs, then support would be discontinued (apart from keeping modules compatible with the latest DCS engine version) in favor of supporting the newer modules and DCS engine itself. Keeping modules compatible with the latest DCS engine would be funded by DCS engine update licenses. The purpose of this scheme is to keep modules compatible to a reasonable point and also provide funding for continuous development. With the realistic comms which which we now have this would certainly be interesting. I should get back to BS2 now :P
  7. It does look quite cool ... Up next: reflections for cockpit guage glass, the final frontier in cockpit realism :D
  8. All it takes is CTRL-V ;)
  9. - Install BS1 - Activate BS1 - Install BS2 upgrade (= standalone install, separate from BS1) - Uninstall BS1?
  10. Training videos are also available on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=723940F5AE9B07BB
  11. For now you can watch the tracks on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=723940F5AE9B07BB
  12. Or withholding the truth ;) Surely the decision to release BS2 commercially was not made overnight, although the limited communication makes it appear so. That said, I do hope ED get around implementing them non-functional switches in the shark :|
  13. Not that I've noticed :(
  14. Actually, ED did post some (critical) information in the RU forums about a month ago, mentioning a paid update for BS, instead of a free patch. If the same information was made available here, the launch of BS2 would probably have been a bit smoother.
  15. There were some rumors in the Russian forums about a month ago. I'll see if I can track the posts. Posted by Chizh about a month ago: - http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1300041 - http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1300630&postcount=3104 - http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1300683&postcount=3111 - http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1300687&postcount=3112
  16. Doesn't the BS2 installer only check activation data (registry)? I don't think the actual application files are checked. BS2 uses its own files anyway. Since the data for the activation is saved within the current user's registry area (instead of machine-wide level), the patch should be executed by the same user as the one who activated the license ...
  17. A different error message is displayed in that case. There must be another reason for his problem. @MemphisBelle: did you install a patch 1.0.1/1.0.2 after installing DCS-BS 1.x? It should be 1.0.0 (no patches)
  18. Actually the first bug with this patch is that it won't install when the directory path includes non-ASCII characters ... This was also the case with the other patches. Therefore this is bug 第一. The issue is solved by moving the patch to a folder path which includes only ASCII(-mappable) characters. --------------------------- Error --------------------------- The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------

  20. The bulk of the code for those features must have been reused. The amount of additional work to make that additional/reworked code from DCS-A10 work in DCS-BS is another story (forked development?). This brings me back to the point of modular design (from a technical point of view, not commercial). I hope ED work it out succesfully.
  21. Regardless of the financial aspect, I'm concerned about the apparent lack of separation between "DCS engine" and "DCS flyable". Instead of a modular approach (module = flyable, terrain ...) it seems like a forked development. If this is the case then future maintenance ("compatibility patches/upgrades") could slow down the progress of the DCS series noticeably. * puts on the flame-resistant suit * ;)
  22. Considering that the above items are already present in DCS-A10, couldn't one argue that if one already owns DCS-BS and DCS-A10C, there should be an upgrade SKU which is cheaper than BS2 upgrade SKU? Otherwise you're paying for the same thing twice (and lineary more, as the next modules are released) I wonder how/if ED will keep updating the older DCS modules in the future, after several more modules have been released. As more modules are released, things like multiplayer compatibility will be essential, unless you like multiplayer where everyone flies the same aircraft ... If the pricing mechanism doesn't change in the future things could get quite expensive for those who want to keep up ... Note: After buying DCS-AC10 five months ago, I bought DCS-BS just a month ago, not having a clue that DCS-BS2 was around the corner.
  23. With DCS-A10 the files are where they belong. You don't need administrator rights to use DCS-A10. If you want to change the application's files you can simply change the permissions of the main folder and they will be inherited by all subfolders. By the way, what do you mean by "shadow folder things"?
