  1. This bug was fixed in 1.1.1.1 (or 1.1.1.0) ----------------------------------------------- Origin of gun rounds is incorrect (small detail which requires a small fix ;-) ) See attached screenshot.
  2. Position lights from F-15E that are cast on surface are inverted (green is red, red is green), see attached screenshot.
  3. It's great to see a "game" developer that actually cares about supporting its product and customers (beyond initial product release). Not something that we see too often nowadays.
  4. Try the Scroll Lock key on your keyboard to toggle ... scroll lock.
  5. In 2 weeks ...
  6. I love repeating myself too. :D Read this again, please: I'm talking about applications (i.e. processes), not the OS ... You may want to read this as well: http://blogs.technet.com/b/markrussinovich/archive/2008/11/17/3155406.aspx At least zokier understood it.
  7. Spread a single thread accross multiple logical CPU's and execute it simultaneously? .............
  8. This is why I'm wondering about memory usage in the 64-bit version of DCSA10. 32-bit applications are limited to 2GB address space (up to 3GB strictly speaking) so even if you have more memory it cannot be used directly. With the 64-bit version it should be possible to preload more data so that data doesn't need to be "streamed" at the very last moment, because then it's already too late ;) Neither do I, so I'm not able to check this myself. Anybody out there with DCSA10 that can check the difference in memory usage and perceived performance between the 32/64 bit versions?
  9. The data needs to be loaded at some point, right? Some data is required when starting, other information can be loaded on-the-fly. Initial load times cannot be magically removed. Perhaps you can reduce them by using fast (and expensive) SSD's ... Have you checked the "Peak Working Set (Memory)" for DCSA10 (the 64-bit executable) in Windows Task Manager? (Processes tab, View -> Select Columns ...). What value do you see?
  10. What is the peak working set (RAM) for DCS:A10 on your system? If it doesn't exceed 2GB then that would explain why you don't see an improvement with the x64 exe. How much RAM does your system have? Which OS?
  11. Tell that to people who lost their jobs recently ... or who don't earn as much money as others. There's nothing wrong in wanting to try something out before you spend your hard earned money.
  12. Aren't real wars repetitive? Falcon 4's dynamic campaign was repetitive, but it was great. It depends on what you're looking for in a flight sim. The consumer deserves to be aware of any protection systems which are present in the product, which may impact the usage of the product. The presence of DRM did influence my decision to buy BS. (same for Empire Total War ...) Luckily there are so many great things in life, and missing out on a few games is no issue.
  13. Can low end systems even run BS at a decent frame rate? ... Maybe it's time to focus on systems with at least 2 CPU cores. Dual-core CPU's are the standard now, and have been available for several years.
  14. GG, there is a way for applications in a 32-bit version of Windows to use more than 2GB of virtual address space. This requires that the /3GB parameter be set in boot.ini, as well as a change to the application itself. However, this reduces virtual address space for the Windows Kernel, which can cause instability. It can also cause problems with drivers. (similar issues as with the /PAE switch) Quote from Microsoft: On Windows XP, some drivers, especially video adapter drivers with onboard RAM, cannot run with the /3GB parameter because they require more address space than the 1 GB kernel address space permits. Conclusion: it's better to switch to a 64-bit version of Windows (and recompile the application to x64) to increase performance on systems with larger amounts of system memory.
  15. Didn't Ubisoft remove the cd-check in Lockon 1.02? Alas, we can only speculate why Ubisoft did this.
  16. In that case, this should have been a locked thread. What is the point if negative comments are not welcome? I'm glad I'm no longer running a Lockon fansite ...
  17. This really isn't a strong protection either. Many protection systems are not cracked, they are bypassed. Let's save a USB port.
  18. You're basically saying that legitimate customers will face even stronger restrictions in the use of their DCS:BS license, whereas illegitimate users do not have any restrictions. DCS:BS's protection was defeated in less than a week, how long will the new one last? Makes me wonder how much StarForce charges for each "protected" software instance. They are even worse than the ones who pirate software. I am not buying DCS:BS if the DVD version requires activation, period. There are numerous (large) companies, who implemented DRM in their products (including music and movies), that have discontinued their DRM services, therefore making it impossible for users to use their products. Most of those companies did not refund cash. ED cannot guarantee that it will remain in business indefinitely, and is thus unable to guarantee that will be able to offer its DRM services (activation) for as long as customers need it. Customers should not accept this.
  19. They have a regular distributor for Russia, 1C. They don't have one for the other markets (afawk). Whether or not it is necessary to consolidate all alternate languages in a single version (disk) is debatable. It is probably a cost-saving measure, as they need to produce only one disk. That said, my language isn't included in the translated versions anyway.
  20. If it's dark then it would technically be considered night, I guess.
  21. We can buy DCS on credit, no?
  22. Not everybody is interested in the finer (600 page) details of the game (yes, it's a game). It would be a waste of trees and carbon-dioxide. Let people choose whether they want a printed manual or not. Throwing in a huge printed manual for "free" (as in: included in the price) is probably not going to increase sales, and would increase the price for everyone.
  23. Hopefully the UI will scale well across resolutions, aspect ratios and monitors. Good to see there's an option for cockpit display resolution. Should help performance/quality depending on the system.
  24. I know what you mean, but in LO it really seems to be off. The terrain and objects are lit independantly, in a non-uniform way.
  25. ARMA looks more similar to those pictures than LO/DCS. The abnormal lighting difference between the terrain and the trees has been present since Lockon 1.0. It can also be observed at dawn and dusk, when trees are lit very little (almost black) while the terrain is much lighter. Hopefully they will fix this in the future.
