Grim Reapers did an interesting youtube vid about taming the joystick response to what he felt was more realistic, with a 25 curve and saturation down to 50%. Ive left mine at about 70% but Im still utterly confused about trim actuator, trimmer, magnetic brake, autopilot alt and speed hold as I dont know if these conflict with or augment eachother, and they never seem to work consistently, though trim reset before activiating autopilot seemed to help a little.

THabnks thats a very clear and informative post. So modifiers set in X52 programming will not work as modifiers in DCS settings but modified keypresses will work either way? As long as I stick to some convention of assigning the modifier butons in X52 OR DCS but never both?
-
I tried a few different keystrokes to disable head tracking (Im using open track) but cant get headtracking disabled?
-
I guess I'm currently trying modifiers in both dcs and X52 programming and getting conflicts. I have a few test profiles being built up in vjoy & jstk gremlin, its just the little thumbstick & mouse button on the X52 is a bit weird, and acts differntly depending on if the game controller properties window is open or not. Want to use the thumbstick for zoom (and slew in 1 mode) and the mouse button for a modifier.

My post was badly worded, I meant the profile clear option from the icon in the sys tray, as you clarified.

SUNTSAG - Lockdown Mods/Liveries Collection (New and Revised)
Sprool replied to SUNTSAG's topic in DCS Modding
thanks - all working now :) -
what installer?

I cant see clearing the sys tray will have any effect. the problem is DCS doesnt know the current reading of the mode switch when the other button is pressed, as its just sitting there quietly. It can only see the state-change when it switches from one mode to the next. You'd have to simultaneously press the button then change to desired mode to capture the two actions. The programming software will allow you to set up the mode switch as 3 different shift-states to get more button assignments.

QUick q: is it better practice to assign a modifier button in the X52 programming software or just set one up within DCS controls?

Thanks Suntsag, you are a star! Learnt so much from your mission editor tut's :) -
Someone posted back up earlier - use the mouse. Is this an option for minigun aim, as headtracking aim sucks?
-
But didnt it work last year, or before the recent DCS update? I saw a couple of youtube videos with people demonstrating the hatstick for trimming in-flight.

Trouble is the pots on the x52 are so poor they are useless as zooms as they jitter all the time, causing the screen to judder in and out. I get a really nice smooth zoom with the mouse thumbstick. Maybe my post was not clear, In DCS i'm assigning the little mousebutton to be a modifier, and im using the thumbstick as a zoom. THe mousebutton (its button 31 on my x52) ony seems to register in DCS when the joystick properties box is open, but then the thumbstick will not work. With the properties box closed, the thumbstick works fine in game.

Im also new to the Gazelle and finding the info very confusing about trimming. Whats the difference between Trim on/off, trimmer, trimmer reset, magnetic brake, autopilot alt and speed modes, and do they conflict? Ive tried every combination but trimmer on the hat switch does nothing. The only thing that works intuitively, like in the huey, is the trim switch for rudder (when activated in the special menu). Id expect you to be able to freeze the control positions same in the gazelle with the trim button but it doesnt do anyting.

SUNTSAG - Lockdown Mods/Liveries Collection (New and Revised)

Struggling to get the V1 rockets working - here is what I see, and when I set an advanced action to fire, they never seem to. -
I'm still getting some strange behaviours from the X52 when I'm assigning keys in DCS. First I'm using the little thumbwheel for zoom, its programmed to spit out '/' and '*' on x-axis. Works fine. Next I'm assigning the little mouse button as a modifier to use along with some of the fire buttons. Doesnt work. Yet when I go into Joystick > properties and keep the window open on screen, the modifier button assignment now works, but the thumbstick zoom does not. Why is this?
-
It would make good sense from the players aspect to be able to have Channel and Normandy maps merged as one flyable area.

Did you delete these files? There seems nothing available int he links from your first post?

Assigning multiple actions to one button?
Sprool replied to Griffin's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
No key-pressing assignments, its all axes; I use vJoy - virtual joystick and Joystick Gremlin together. In vjoy you can assign x,y,z,rx,ry,rz axes (theres also slider1 and 2) of the virtual joystick to one single rotary axis on the X52, then when in DCS you can map the vjoy axes each to one cockpit light rotary each. VJoy appears in DCS settings a an additional joystick where mappings can be assigned. Joystick Gremlin is the go-between taking your actual physical joystick actions and manipulating them or translating them into signals for vJoy. Possibilities are massive. -
Nice - works fine now - thanks!
-
So I mapped the rotary and 7 bands but it s constantly spitting out numbers all the time, from 1 to 7 depending on the position. I need it to only output the next number when it goes from one band to the next one. Any ideas? My early attempts at joy_gremlin also results in contant output stream
-
I was thinking of using a rotary with 7 bands, that may be the best solution, unless I can get somehting working in vJoy and Joystick Gremlin with Chain command?
-
Going through setting up the X52 for use with the FC3 planes. I want a press on the hat3 on throttle to be able to step through the 7 different modes which are normally accessed via keyboard numbers 1 to 7. Any way of setting up a hat press that outputs in sequence the numbers 1 ....7?

Assigning multiple actions to one button?
Sprool replied to Griffin's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I'm with you on that one, the purists can click around the cockpit virtual buttons. If i'm starting from a carrier at night I just want 1 knob to turn on the joystick to get everything I need illuminated. I will set up a second rotary on the stick to control the 3 MFD's separately as their brightness affects gameplay. In the Huey its great to see all 6 cockpit lights turning together :)
