  1. Thank you Cake/Sorbus for making this and sharing it with everyone. It looks very interesting and I will definitely play around with it. About the hyphens though - DCS automatically uses hyphens for unit name numbering (1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2, etc) so it would definitely be advantageous if we could use a different character. Otherwise we'll have to edit and change pretty much every unit number for use with your script.
  2. Don't extract the mission files, add stuff, then "re-zip" them using Winzip or Winrar as it will break the mission file. Rename the mission file to have a ".rar" or ".zip" extension, open it in Winrar or whatever, add the content you want then rename the file back to a ".miz" file when you're finished.
  3. Some of the best videos I've found of the Red Bull BO-105 and its pilot, Chuck Aaron. One of the best airshow videos - (not too zoomed in and a cloudy backdrop so you get a real sense of motion) Flying Bulls Bo-105 @ TANNKOSH 2011 2015 Wingnuts Flying Circus - Chuck Aaron Red Bull Helicopter Aerobatics!!! - (nice onboard ride) Meet Aerobatic Helicopter Pilot Chuck Aaron - (about the man, the legend) The Story of Red Bull's Aerobatic Heli - (Talks about technique and modifications to the B0-105) Tried to embed vids but not working for some reason...
  4. +1 Started a thread here asking for mission editor declutter tools https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=285260 Added your request to it as it falls under decluttering/view filtering for the editor. Vote it up to help the cause.
  5. Another request here https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=228727 asking for Combined Arms "Player can drive" vehicles to be colour coded in editor units list. That fits into this request nicely as it's a type of view filtering. Perhaps colour coding classes/types on the map would be an idea? Shades of red through orange for red coalition and shades of blue through purple for blue coalition - to have colour coding but still recognise coalitions?
  6. I've just started a wishlist item as I couldn't find it there already https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=285260 Add your vote to help it happen
  7. Please could we have the ability to declutter the map in the mission editor? In large and complex scenarios it can get confusing with all the range circles and unit icons everywhere. Firstly, could we get the tools that are already in the F10 map - "View detection areas" and "View engagement areas" so we can toggle range circles on/off in the mission editor. Secondly, can we get the ability to toggle classes visibility on and off like:- Armor, SAMs, AAA, Infantry, Unarmed etc etc and maybe even "Late activated units". The more choice you can give us for view filtering the better.
  8. Bit difficult to hide the default pads when they sit raised above terrain and not flat, plus even the single FARP pad is pretty huge. I gave up on the default FARPs to be honest and I'm using Suntsag's AM2 mats which are brilliant. They are small and unobtrusive, they sit flat on the ground and you don't have to be in contact with them to get fuelled etc and they can be hidden if desired. Also don't need anything else to enable full FARP service, just a single mat. ED should follow Suntsag's lead on those.
  9. Not possible at present unfortunately. Needs added to wish list if not already in there. The same question was asked recently in this thread https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=284836 , which is now a couple pages over in the listings.
  10. I tried to get the other listed voices to be available to third party TTS programs but after searching around it seems that Microsoft only allows the default 3 to be used. The rest are apparently system locked and require a registry hack to unlock - which may or may not still work. I decided to leave it at that point. Edit: just found this https://stackoverflow.com/questions/40406719/windows-10-tts-voices-not-showing-up Basically it says: ["David and Zira are SAPI voices; the language packs install WinRT voices. The SAPI APIs and voices are legacy APIs, and are not being further developed; all new voices and effort are going into the WinRT APIs and voices. If you want to use the language pack voices, you'll need to move your application over to WinRT and use the WinRT APIs."]
  11. I'll wager it's because your IT department will have given you limited user rights on your laptop. I've seen that myself before on works laptops and it can be a pain. But hey ho, we tried :) Should work fine on your own PC though. PS. Pretty weird that you can run DCS and not a simple TTS program...
  12. Hmmm... that is weird. If it's there it should work. Maybe something to do with permissions settings on your work laptop. Tried running it as administrator? If it will let you...
  13. Depends on what Windows version you have. I'm running "Windows 10 Home" version and it's under Settings, Time & Language. Pretty sure mine was on by default though and there doesn't appear to be an "On/Off" option.
  14. What version of Windows are you running sirrah? You need to look for core Microsoft Text to Speech engine, rather than apps. Edit: I think the Microsoft Speech Engine has been built in to the last few Windows versions as the only download I can find for "Microsoft Speech Platform - Runtime" is on here and it's dated 2011. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/search.aspx?q=Microsoft+Speech+Platform+-+Server+Runtime+Languages&p=0&r=10&t=&first=31 Since you're using your work laptop - have you got an IT person in the office? Maybe ask them to install TTS on it for you? If you're running a recent version of Windows, maybe it just needs turned on in settings?
  15. @ataribaby - That's a very cool radio message generator. I like that it automatically adds the radio sounds. Perfect for DCS. @sirrah - Yup, you gotta love the good side of this community. Helped me many times over and I try to do my bit where I can too. Question - do you guys have to boost the gain on your sound files to match the volume of in game speech like the request refuel/rearm and ground crew reply for example? I've found that no matter what speech generator I use, I always have to boost gain by 8 to 10 dB on my sound files to make them come through in DCS at the same volume level as the ground crew conversation. If I don't boost the gain they sound about half the volume of the built in DCS speech.
  16. @sirrah I tried your .ogg file and it works fine for me in both Stable 2.5.6.52437 and Open Beta 2.5.6.54046, although it is a bit quiet. Did it not play at all for you or did you just not hear it? I struggled to hear my sounds at first and had to adjust my in sim audio settings to be able to hear them well. Screenshot below with my audio settings. Also noticed that your file had a high bit rate and was quite a big file. Screenshot below with my recommended converter settings to keep files small but still good quality. I've recently noticed that the sound file selection window doesn't show the "play" controls for all files, even though they are created with the same settings. Selection window seems to only show play controls for short sound clips. Even so, if you select a sound that won't play in that window, it will play with the "play" control in the main triggers window. See screenshots. Hope that's of some help.
  17. That is really good quality speech for a free converter Rudel, good find. I'll be giving that one a try soon.
  18. I had the same problem after using sound files created by a free online text to speech converter - www, texttospeechfree, com. I think their file format is bad and that threw DCS into a stuck loop somehow. Tried restarting DCS but that didn't work. Then tried a re-boot of my PC and afterwards I could get the file browser to open again and select a sound file. Tried the same file again and got stuck again. I then downloaded Balabolka and tried using files created by it - after another re-boot to "unstick" DCS - and they worked fine. I had this problem in both Stable 2.5.6.52437 and Open Beta 2.5.6.54046 For me it seemed to be a bad sound file that caused the problem, fixed with just a PC re-boot and using good sound files.
  19. I had the exact same problem over the weekend and I think it's because I had tried to open a sound file that was on my D:\ drive. Seems to throw DCS into a loop if your sound files are outside the Saved Games folders. I ended up putting my sound files into a folder called Sounds inside my Missions folder and they work from there. I had to re-boot my PC to get DCS out of its stuck loop and be able to open the sound files again. Just restarting DCS didn't work. Hope that helps. EDIT: Just tried opening sound files from D:\ drive again and they work, so scratch that suggestion. And, I just remembered - I first tried the same free online text to speech converter that you did and that's where my problems started. I think their file formats are borked. After I changed to the files from Balabolka (and after re-boot) everything worked again. I think its if DCS tries to open a bad file format that it gets into a loop. Re-boot should allow you to open files again as long as the format is good.
  20. I was looking for the exact same thing over the weekend and came across this list on TechRadar https://www.techradar.com/uk/news/the-best-free-text-to-speech-software I chose Balabolka which can use 3 of the Windows 10 voices (2 female, 1 male). Works quite well. Haven't tried any of the others in the list. I found that even though the saved sound files from Balabolka seemed normal volume when played with VLC player, they seem to be a bit quiet in sim so I also downloaded "Audacity" software which lets you increase the gain then re-export them. https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/ Edit: I used ogg files and they work. Aparently DCS prefers ogg files, or so I remember reading somewhere.
  21. It should work as long as you put the file in the right place and you used Notepad++ to edit the lua file. (Windows notepad breaks the coding) Unfortunately the max value you can put in for view angle is only 140 and with full triple screens that still doesn't zoom you out enough - see screenshot 1, full triple screens at 5940 x 1080, aspect 5.5. Still too far zoomed in. I'm guessing this view is what you see? I set mine up to display on only 1/3 of left and right monitors and put my Helios on the outer 2/3's - see screenshot 2, 5940 x 1080, aspect 5.5 but modified view area. Works well for me as (1) I can zoom to where I want, (2) it gets rid of the bad stretching on the outer 2/3's of left and right screens and (3) I don't have a fourth monitor for Helios. Good all round compromise for me.
  22. No, it's not possible without a FARP object. In reality a laager in the desert would need to be set up with some form of matting where the aircraft can land safely, along with the supply vehicles and personnel. I've attached a screenshot of a small desert laager made with Suntsag's AM2 mat and other static objects that come with his mod. The vehicles are all DCS, the rest is all Suntsag's. Looks pretty good don't you think? His single AM2 mat is very small and unobtrusive, much better than default FARP objects. Like Breaklight said, if you don't like the pad, make it invisible. You will need it to allow FARP functions though.
  23. To solve the issue of it being reversed, you can "invert" the axis in DCS controls setup and most other flight sims. Job done. Not getting full range - you should be able to see what its doing on the scale in the device config screen and also within DCS. If you're definitely not getting full range then it could be something physically stopping the throttle from getting full travel or perhaps the pot mount has come loose.
  24. What we need is the same controls that are already available in the F10 map in sim. "View detection areas" and "View engagement areas" It's a pain to have to hide a mass of units one by one when all it would take is two mouse clicks to hide all the range circles or show them again. Never understood why that function is available in the F10 map but not in the mission editor. I'd say it's more needed in the editor than in sim but really it should be in both. Should be easy to stick them into the editor though. Hint hint ED... To take it a bit further, it would be handy if we could hide/show units by type - hide or show all SAM's or AAA or armour for example. Good idea?
  25. It's always best to be facing into the wind whilst hovering anyway and especially in a squirrely aircraft. I imagine they'd have to deal with some pretty unpredictable turbulence at times when hiding behind and moving between cover. That would be made a fair bit worse if the wind was behind them. All things considered, it's a very good idea to approach "from downwind", ie. flying into the wind.
