  1. that is so strange - i dont think if have seen this in any of the years i have played DCS. Have you recently tried to swap out the textures for a mod? Did you try installing any of the available terrain mods to see if that will inject some terrian graphics for you ?
  2. Thanks for the conversation here guys - I think it is safe to say we care and there is merit to continue this conversation but i think it has ran as far as it needs to go on this thread. Let's please not get the thread locked and avoid further comment on the issue here. DoW is here to support the enjoyment of the WWII DCS Community and would like to invite constructive commentary to continue at our forums here if needed: http://www.webfortress.com/dogsofwar/forum/ Thanks for understanding. Now get online and fly!
  3. So I queried folks on the server regarding your report and it certainly sounds like this might be a one-off issue. Can you screen shot the anomaly and post it? do you see the missing textures for other missions using the same geographic areA?
  4. hmm i updated to 14.41 with the asder00 cracked version for my 6970 card and confirmed the atium64.dll was in place but my frames are actually about 10-20% worse now. sad panda.
  5. ouch! did you open it up? I can't imagine there is anything to be lost at this point .... i'd crack it open to see if you can identify why it is twisting like that. Mine maybe twists a degree.... how the hell do people do that to sticks?????? i have this image in my mind of the same kind of guy who leans waaaay over when he needs to turn on a console game.... we all remember those guys.... :)
  6. Q: a challenge for the WWII community within DCS is the absence of period ground targets. has a thrid party dev such as yourself ever considered releasing your modules with a few complimentary ground targets/objects that could compliment the mission building for said module?
  7. hey blitz - frog of war is on the DoW server. drop your feedback over on that thread and we can help maybe... the burning skies guys have other awesome missions over here... I'm just a fan of what they do :)
  8. Good feedback - it is a shame many rookies miss out online without labels... Maybe our group can look at your suggestion and think about some options For visibility, I'd recommend the following: 1- Study the briefing . If you know what the enemy ground objective is and where it is, you can orbit nearby and watch for tracers either firing at or from ground targets 2- Study the flak maps if the briefing has one.... If you know where your enemy will draw flak you can watch for their puffs and zoom in accordingly when you see them 3- Study the enemy route to target from their airfield.if it passes over land or light coloured terrain, fly your bar cap above that - it's easier to spot them that way. If you have altitude then dive down with speed perpendicular to their path and watch for them against the sky where it is easier to spot them... If you see nothing, zoom up and rinse/ repeat. These are just 3 tactics I use online - the fourth tip is the bible.... Get on comms - if you can't see a bogey, someone will and they can talk you onto target to help
  9. I don't doubt that at all... ED certainly has my vote of confidence in executing with best intentions. My comments are a caution that the community may not be ready for a digital battlefield yet. I recall the never-ending debate and quest for influence as the WWIIOL community fractured into ground vs. air when discussing, patches, enhancements the competition of resources (read CPU/GPU power demand). I will say that the digital battlefield community can be unbelievably tight but i caution all of us to think about how me might facilitate civility when the inevitable argument arises between an M1 Abrams simmer and an F18C simmer about who's user experience has higher priority to the long tail success of DCS. Folks are pretty protective about their FPS and I was always amazed at the "we want everything without sacrificing anything" attitude in that particular digital battlefield sim. Everyone collaborated greatly on vision but fought miserably on the execution. learning from that experience now could be a good exercise for DCS.
  10. as a mission builder, I think your worry may be misplaced :) I think you would be hard pressed to find any designer whom isn't looking forward to a couple of new sandboxes. What is important to recognize is that it isn't the map that brings us the frustration but more often slight inconsistencies working with the ME software. Although there are small problems with the current map (transparent trees, bridge crossing) it's still pretty manageable from a design perspective. I am personally hoping that the release of Hormuz, EDGE and Nevada is paired with some maintenance work on the ME as that will be the single greatest step forward for design. New map objects would be unbelievably awesome though - I would give my left arm to see ED start bundling and distributing community created objects with their patches so everyone can enjoy them and designers can then build without worry what mods the audience has installed. As for reliance on other to make your missions, I'm happy to offer some insight on how to build missions to you or anyone interested jcbak... I can set up a team viewer session and walk you through the basics very quickly so you can have simple missions up for you and your mates quickly .... you will be surprised how quickly you get comfortable with the editor and start pumping them out. PM me if you ever have any questions.
  11. i'd buy it if i had an environment that complimented a tank sim. Just like the environmental/air physics are really important to the performance of an air sim, the presentation of the ground environment is incredibly important to tanking. I used to play WWIIOL (BattlegroundEurope) and can say with confidence that the need for tree collisions is a non-negotiable "yes". In addition, varying terrain (mud, gravel etc) is also important as is increased polygon for the terrain navigation. There is also the very deep immersion factor proper skeletal infantry animations bring at the ground level. In many ways, I wonder how far the DCS air community is willing to sacrifice/balance performance in the air to provide for acceptable game environment at the ground level. I'd suggest there was a reason WWIIOL had to look as "dated" as it did. We will see where EDGE goes but unless SpeedTree or a similar technology is introduced to DCS, we may have a frustrating experience with the ground environment as it is. Still looking forward to the possibility though.
  12. xcom! do you have any objection t the dow server also trying this script out?
  13. goto canyouseeme.org and open it in a window. Then start DCS multiplayer and launch your mission. Alt-tab to canyouseeme.org and look to see if it can detect your PC on port 10308. If it fails then you did not open ports correctly on your router. check your IPV4 address via c prompt ipconfig and ensure you have the proper ip in your router port openings. hope this helps.
  14. .. great work! We REALLY need a world objects library - a dedicated sub forum would be best. Too many folks are going to miss a lot of these great models being produced lately.
  15. OK - the site is pretty quiet on the forums as we all try to squeak in sunshine and fresh air before winter sets in. I'm sure a moderator will approve your access soon. Until then, we look forward to flying with you and chatting on TS!
  16. you are shooting too close. zu23 are a tough target for p51 but not insurmountable. i never place zu23 in my miz at anything above average skill. That said, fire from farther out... they take very little ammo to kill so I usually do an area spray with a bit of rudder to hose around. typically i can then kill them before they kill me.
  17. ... so im just curious. If models that can fire back are being introduced into DCS, how hard is it to get a B17/He111 model in? Is it the flight model aspect that is the trouble? Could the flight model be copied from the c17 /an26 or is that stuff all locked down behind the iron curtain?
  18. man - this sucks - I'm totally bummed out about this. Civilian space endeavours are our salvation... literally.
  19. I am wondering if it is possible to create a script that simulates the Chain Home range/direction functionality from great britain in the late 30s/early 40s. I would like to us the radio towers to simulate an array with an add radio flag function to force a do script print out bearing/range of enemy planes within "X" (read zone radius) of a Chain Home tower. Different add radio functions would call on different group stations for reports. I see a plausible example of the print outs with Stonehouses' work in the GCI script and wonder if this could be adapted for a WWII purpose. My hope is that a Chain Home array could add immersion and free my mission making from such a heavy reliance upon flak to assist aircraft spotting. I see the script requiring the user inputs of creating the zones/adding the radio towers but the script logic could hopefully add the radio items and remove them if a radio tower is taken out. Is this possible? I have tried to introduce AWACS and GCI into WWII MP missions but consistently face frustration with the dependability of clients not hearing/being able to contact the awacs - also , they are a bit too powerful and theatre wide to work well in WWII. A Chain home system might be more plausible, reliable and ultimately add new strategic targets to the missions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_radar#Origins_in_Great_Britain
  20. .. Also , can Aries run on top of a multi monitor setup in full screen mode? I ask because I am unable to alt tab to external windows when in full screen in DCS
  21. Is there an updated list of supported modules or is it still restricted to a10/ ka50/ uh1/ p51?
  22. Intense - RIP http://news.discovery.com/history/italian-wwii-pilot-found-buried-still-on-his-seat-141027.htm
  23. ... is that "No" these are not NEW objects or "No" they will not mess with other missions? I think i am interpreting this as them being totally new objects that are inserted. Do they have a damage model?
  24. ... its the first i ever heard of it... would it only affect ground tiles? I presume this would allow for a2a engagements still?
