Quick (40 odd minutes) sortie on the [OCB] server... Constructive critiques welcome. :)

I have had FRAPS for over a year now, but felt I never had the HDD space to use it. I Have a new PC and that's all behind me. I have recorded close to an hour of mixed quality footage of a night mission I have flown with my TOG wingmen, but I find the image quality once uploaded is poor, not able to show my detail. I know that I was seeing enough ingame to control the ship, but this does not translate to the captured video. Any tips for a newb video director? BTW I use AVS4you video converter to bring file size down to an uploadable level. FLV format seems the most economical. EDIT: Sory - the above link is one of the HD quality recordings, toward the tail end of the mission. Didn't select NVG. Will post the lesser quality NVG videos once uploaded. EDIT 2: Video uploaded - Please excuse the low quality

+1. Thanks ED.

My trimmer/stability issues were non-ffb related (have X52Pro), so I'm afraid I can't help. All I can say is that I have the same stability I had before in BS1. I did notice in the Misc. page of Options, "Enable Force Feedback" was checked by default. Maybe this is unchecked on your install?

Yup, can confirm. That's the old girl I remember! Good job ED. :D

Collective not responding to X52Pro Throttle Quad inputs
astrospud replied to astrospud's topic in Bugs and Problems
OK, can confirm deleting the saved game information and setting up from scratch solved this problem. Not too difficult if you have a relatively simple set up like I do. Case closed! :) -
Collective not responding to X52Pro Throttle Quad inputs

Yeah, I think I'll have a go at deleting the saved game entries. Upon restart of the game, it should start with defaults. I hope. As you say, back up before proceeding! :D -
Collective not responding to X52Pro Throttle Quad inputs
astrospud replied to astrospud's topic in Bugs and Problems
Even with it working properly, you will see little jumps in the mid range of any axis movement on an X52 or Pro. This is because the absolute position of the input (throttle, cyclic, slider, rotors) will sometimes be in between the signal values of the pots inside the controller - very coarse, by my experience - causing the axis indicator/ingame effect to "jump". This is normal for a Saitek, albeit annoying, especially with zoom function. I would avoid using the Saitek SST software to make direct comparisons, and use windows game controller properties instead. -
Collective not responding to X52Pro Throttle Quad inputs
astrospud replied to astrospud's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah, that actually came to me early on, so I've checked and verified it has been mapped to the Sim mode. Just for good measure, I have saved the input config and reloaded it, just in case only clicking "ok" doesn't make the adjustments stick. -
I have always assigned collective to JoyZ (throttle quadrant) on my X52Pro. It now seems completely unresponsive, but all other inputs, both button and axis inputs, are responding normally. Axis tune window shows a shift in the position across the axis from bottom left to top right when advancing throttle, but this does not translate when in game. Profile software has no assignment on this axis. I have unplugged and re attached the joystick, with axis tune again responding to inputs, but still not translating to in game. OS: Win 7 64 bit, SP1 latest updtaes at time of post CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz RAM: 8Gb Video: GeForce GT 440 1Gb Direct X: 11 Comms: ADSL 2+ Input: Logitech G15 k/b, G9 Mouse, TIR 5 pro, Saitek X52Pro HOTAS, Saitek Pro Rudder pedals. I don't think I've missed anything, but I am open to any advice. DXDiag Attached. Cheers, Marc. DxDiag astrospud.txt

Cool, thanks :)

I understand that the resources required to create a patch might not be available, but is there a chance that we could have an optional patch in future? I realise it may be counter intuitive to some to re-instate a known bug, but I'd be happy to apply an optional patch if it means I can fly the way I always have...

Is there a way that we, as users, can substitute one (or some) of the original BS1 input configs into the new BS2 fileset and fly in a manner that is to our liking; ie pre BS2? If so, I'd do this in a snap. I am itching to get back in the saddle.

So what you are saying, Nate, is that there has been no recoding at all of the trimmer system and/or how the helicopter behaves through pilot inputs? With so many people saying the same thing must count for something. Granted the same amount of people saying nothing has changed, but they would probably be in the camp of those who use the trimmer as per real Hokum pilots, or not at all (I know a couple that don't trim). I will try and sort out a couple of track files showing the differences way I use trimmer in BS1 and BS2. You'll see that I do it differently than the more experienced and hardcore pilots here.

I'll have a look at that when I get home tonight. Are you flying with FD on? S3 and S4 - are they TM WH specific or trimmer settings in FMOoptions.lua? I have a Saitek X52Pro.

Great summary titanium. I have trimmed in BS1 by making the coarse inputs with the trimmer held. It worked for me then, but it doesn't work for me now. Flying the gauntlet of =STP= Dragons "hardcore terrorists" used to be relatively doable (I won't say easy - that mission is still a bitch! :D) as I would jink and dodge to avoid incoming AT-2's and the like. I am able to maintain control with the trimmer depressed for seconds at a time 5-10 at least. The ship would be stable and I could apply really wide deflections of the cyclic with complete confidence. And this is with the default axis curves. Now, with BS2, the same press and hold technique is not the same. Where I used to be able to charge in at 250km/h and flare to a stable hover in a few seconds, now takes much, much longer. It's like I have suddenly turned ham-fisted. I have had to radically adjust the axis curves to user to maintain the same level of stability. I have no idea what has changed, except that something has changed, and I'm not keen on re-learning to fly the Ka-50. I want to be able to jump on a server with my flying buddies and shoot it up, not act like a total noob.

That folder must exist in the standalone version of BS2 and not the upgrade. I can't find it in my install. No matter. Just curious about he whole Flying Legends thing.

rgr - apologies, to all :)

I think what folks here are saying is that what is mentioned above is inverse to what we are experiencing. My experience in BS1 is that if I don't press trimmer when moving the cyclic and AP channels are ON, the ship is sensitive to my inputs- and that's with default axis curve. When trimmer is pressed, ship is comparatively stable, alluding to 20% AP authority being applied when trimmer is pressed. And I don't generally fly with Flight Director on. Not true to real life, but it is there in my experience. BS2 is the opposite, or at least it feels that way. There is something distinctly different in the control regimes between the 2 releases of Blackshark and I have read posts elsewhere that agree. I've never had to adjust the axis curves in BS1, learning how far I can move the cyclic without over cooking it, but now it's like I'm learning it again. Surely, this warrants some investigation.

I have read this thread with great interest, as I have noticed a difference in trimmer model from BS1. I don't have FFB joystick (X52pro here), but I am seeing the same effect on my flying as others have posted. Now I will be the first to admit that I am not using the trimmer as was designed for. For me, in robust manoeuvre's, I hold down the trimmer until I extend away, then release and trim periodically. For me, holding down the trimmer during changes in attitude and direction helped, as it was markedly more controllable. Like I said, it's not the most realistic of methods, but it worked for me.

Madman777, I originally (BS1) assigned trimmer to my pinky trigger(button 6), and it performed as expected. However, I have re-assigned pinky trigger to trimmer in BS2 and I get no response. All my bindings are done ingame, and not using the Saitek software. I understand that in A-10C can use the pinky as a shift state modifier like shift, ctrl and alt, but it doesn't come up in the modifier list in BS2. I am happy with this as it should mean I can assign it as a trimmer. However, this is not so. Button 6 shows to be assigned in the bindings list, but doesn't perform. I have attached my input map as txt file. ka-50_joystick_Saitek X52 Pro Flight Controller {B5783320-411F-11e0-8001-444553540000}.txt

Dang! You're fast, Dragon! Will be hosting on the TOG DCS Server soon. Thanks for your efforts. :D EDIT: Just realised these are training missions. But that's cool too. We need to have these available for new pilots. We await eagerly more Dragon excellence!

Hehe! I believe that's the O2 bottle....

Yep, that worked for me. Do you have a link to that thread? Maybe just for the folks that come across this one.
