  1. “If you can’t make it to mach 2, don’t bother making mach 1.” - A4, A10, and Harrier pilots
  2. The F-8 (by Mag3) appears to be a real thing, so that will fit perfectly to Vietnam. We also have the most excellent A-4E community mod. Can that be included? I’d love to fly it online.
  3. Q: If a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there to hear it, does it makes a sound? A: Yes it does. It also makes a Mosquito, but there is no one there to fly it. De-Havilland book of revelations, 3, 14
  4. I don’t recall ever reading about P47s falling apart in a dive. Some were damaged on the pullout from too much G and even then the damage was deformations (that did ground the plane for a major treatment) or engine damage from over-rev, but nothing breaking apart.
  5. SBD is a rare case of an outdated plane that ended up punching 2 categories above its weight class. It is unbelievable that this plane served till the end of the war and was critical at all major PTO naval battles (that involves carriers). The other obsolete relic to achieve miracles is the Swordfish. Recent studies indicate that the terrible climb rate of the SBD was due to the giant brass balls of its pilots. I want this module for the coolness factor alone (yes it will be terrible in multiplayer...)
  6. P-40 is cute, but it is ridiculously outclassed by the other WWII models we currently have. Even the Mossie will eat it up in a dogfight.
  7. After a close inspection of the video I am pleased to notice that the exhausts are of the multi-stubs type and not the ducted saxophone type. APPROVED
  8. The Mossie appears in all its glory in the DCS2020 trailer, but the news item post failed to mention it: Please tell me it is still coming in 2020... I am having a mild panic attack :shocking: :fear:
  9. The performance differences between D25 and D30 were small enough that you can ignore them and substitute one for the other. Dive recovery flaps were not a big deal, especially at low altitudes.
  10. D25 started operations around DDay. Not sure if they actually flew in DDay itself. D25 was the first bubble canopy variant. During DDay and the following couple of months, older Razorback jugs were still by far the more common variants. D30 vs. D25 - D30 added a dorsal fin that extends the base of the verical tail along the back towards the cockpit. This was added to increase lateral stability which was lost with the removal of the “razor” from the back in the D25. Also, water injection power increased a bit by ~100 HP.
  11. That is a beautiful plane. Mig-21 vs Mirage IIIc is the sexiest air combat ever. Watching that dogfight must have been like watching two hot cheerleaders make out.
  12. In the jug you do not hide - you come above them and blot out the sun!
  13. Yeh, technically the cold war lasted till the end of the 80s, but the cool cold war (excuse the pun) was in the 50s and 60s :) I limited my selection based on technology since I am not very interested in “modern” fighters. Radar and BVR missiles ruined A2A combat for me. Out of the list above I would only consider buying the Mirage2K, but that is just because it is a Mirage and I will pretend that it is a Mirage IIIc gone mad... Anyway, I went with the Mig21 since the classic cold war era’s future looks a bit more promising with the F-8 coming to the Western side, A-6 is rumored, the F-4 just has to be in DCS at some point in the future as well. The community A-4E mod is magnificent and I hope it becomes “common” enough to be included in more online servers. The soviet side is missing the Mig17.
  14. No easy starts for me, I like the challenge - bought the Mig-21  See you in the unfriendly skies <S>
  15. Thanks. I really wanted the Mig-21, unfortunately it is not on sale and 50$ is too much given the other stuff I need to buy as a new player in DCS.
  16. Thanks guys you are correct. Flares and Chaffs work as intended

    MiG-21 ECM

I don’t know if this is the same pod, but the front-cone ecm pod that was carried by Syrian Migs in 1982 over Lebanon were quite effective in throwing off Aim-7s from Israeli F-15s (in HO attacks of course, not from the side/behind). The Pkill of the old AIM-7 were poor and the IAF attributed it to the ecm pods.

    21 not for sale

I was disappointed as well. Mig-21 is at the top of my available-modules wish list.
  19. 56FG at least were over boosting their razorbacks to about 70” long before the D-30 arrived. This was unofficial so I doubt this will be modeled. We’ll get the factory specs.
  20. Thanks. I was more interested in the online gameplay of these models. Do they have good servers/big enough community? F86 and Mig15 are basically Korea only and are the only contemporaries of each other. Is there a sufficient large community for a Korea server during Euro-evenings? Mig-21bis is a 70s model (already somewhat beyond its peak by then) - who are its contemporaries? Only the Mig-19 and F-5? Is there a good server for this matchup? Do the F-5/Mig21 mix well with more modern aircraft in other servers? I suppose running the Mig21 vs the F-teen series and getting splatted BVR will get frustrating really fast.
  21. Got my vote +1
  22. Hello, I am new to DCS, but a veteran of online combat sims (20 years of Aces High, dedicated Mossie pilot). I am mostly here waiting for the Mosquito and P47 modules to come out. While I wait, I think it will be fun to get into jets - early stuff, till the late 60’s, don’t want anything too complicated. If DCS had Mirage III I’d be all over that drooling, but alas the RAZBAM project seems to have been pushed beyond the horizon. So, I narrowed it down to: F-86 Mig-15 Mig-21 F-5 Which of the above do you think will be the best 1st module - mostly for online play. Offline campaigns content are bonus. The Mig-15 is winking at me. Should I?
  23. Ground crew refuses to load Chaffs and flares. I mean, they say the will, they do load bombs/rockets as requested, but chaffs and flares counters remain at 0. This is in instant action cold start.
  24. @heclak, Thank you for the info. This stick must be 12 or 14 years old and I should probably start thinking about replacing it... It served me very well and Microsoft has produced something good for a change - which is probably why they stopped making it and closed that department...
  25. First, let me say a great big THANK YOU for this mod  I am totally noob in DCS, so go easy on me. I use MSFF2 stick and am unable to operate the trim using the POV hat. Also, AFCS doesn’t seem to do anything. I searched this thread and found this quoted post. Is this still an open problem, or is it just me being an idiot and am failing to operate them correctly?
