A lot of ED's map choices are... odd
RaveyDaveyGravy replied to Ben Sones's topic in DLC Map Wish List
That makes sense but then you look at Afghanistan and think of the grief both countries had there. Perhaps it's ok because they both got it handed to them on a plate? -
New campaign for beginner
RaveyDaveyGravy replied to steve_giraffe's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Good question, I've been too busy for the last 18 months but am just about to dig back in to DCS. I only ever pottered about a bit in my low hours Hornet. Interested to hear what advice you get. -
We report bugs, but nobody seems to care.
RaveyDaveyGravy replied to Crash *'s topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I just discovered this issue today when I hopped into the Mi-8 for the first time in a year. The backlights, domelights, position and formation lights all worked fine before. So ED have borked the module and cant be arsed to fix it? Seems like a theme around here..... We still havent had the promised MP, the gunners Ai is fubar and now this? Not a good look ED, sort yourselves out lads. -
Got tainted kick last night here. No mods, no textures, been on the server earlier in the evening. Restarted DCS, server let me in no probs. L-39ZA slot.

+1 Guncam is a windshield blocking gimmick. Wouldnt take much to allow clients setting to prevail would it? Tyvm.

Cold start training mission - need help
RaveyDaveyGravy replied to Coolhand77's topic in Bugs and Problems
Righto, I had this same issue today with the Mission 1 Cold Start Pitch Trim not working: Researched it, found this thread and a few others and tried a workaround that does actually work for me. 1. Open the mission in Mission Editor, (.miz file is located in Eagle Dynamics/DCS/Mods/AJS37/Missions) 2. Save somewhere else outside Eagle Dynamics folder so as not to mess up the original. 3. Open the copy in Mission Editor and move the Viggen to a different parking spot, I found spot #27 works, save the mission, open the mission and you can work through the tutorial no probs. You could test the pitch trim by creating a simple mission to be a "Start from parking hot" spawn at Senaki which will start with the engine running and hence the trim system will have power so you can check that your control bind does actually move the needle down the pitch trim dial. This would save having to work through the tutorial until the engine is running before you can check if trim is functional or not. HTH RDG -
[NO BUG]ZA: Engine RPM decreasing on trigger-pull...
RaveyDaveyGravy replied to D4n's topic in Bugs and Problems
In fact in the L39 the system is in the electronics package not in the gun itself. It still drops the rpm back when you pull the trigger even when the gun is out of ammo. Plus whenever the rpms drop below 80% the engine will "hunt" or not hold a fixed rpm, leading to porpoising in the pitch axis. Below 80% is not good for L39 smooth operation. Need less than 80%? goto idle. Sent from my SM-A505FN using Tapatalk -
[NO BUG] L39 Radio doesn't appear to work in 2.5.1
RaveyDaveyGravy replied to Rolds's topic in Bugs and Problems
Test it, it's simple. Forget keybinds for a minute...... Click the two PTT buttons on the throttle with your clicky mouse. Should bring up the menu? They have different titles: 1:Interphone and 2: VHF radio Now map keybinds to operate those functions, radio needs to be on and tuned to the correct preset channel. Then operate the radio PTT. Trouble is theres lots of nonesense in youtube videos. For an example: Go watch almost any L-39 start up video and they almost always fail to reset the low altitude warning light on the radar altimeter and depart with the warning light still lit. Sent from my SM-A505FN using Tapatalk

[NO BUG] L39 Radio doesn't appear to work in 2.5.1
RaveyDaveyGravy replied to Rolds's topic in Bugs and Problems
I can get pre engine start atc response by switching on Battery, Rdo and 1 of the invertors (but not both), then setting the red channel selector dial correctly. Works on Caucuses and P.G. maps. I do not have NTTR or Normandy so cant say for those two. Sent from my SM-A505FN using Tapatalk -
So is 40 FPS acceptable? I thought solid 60 was a minimum? Sent from my SM-A505FN using Tapatalk

reported Cold Start Tutorial - APU shutoff lengthy sequence
RaveyDaveyGravy replied to Ralphk's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yep I got stuck there too, just this evening. Was just googling a solution on my phone when the tutorial moved on after a few minutes. Also there was one step where I was trying to unclicky my mouse so I could look round and my personal keybind for that of "X" had been removed from the control mapping and stopped working halfway through the tutorial. Put it back in and then the tutorial popped up a couple of sentences and moved on really fast, I heard the little tutorial 'chirp' and looked up to see the text for about a second before the tutorial moved on. I'm hoping it was about the park brake because I was zoomed in on the cockpit panels and noticed out of the sliver of windshield in my vision that the sky was rotating........ Popped into F2 to see the helo was rotating on the spot with its wheels on the ground, I waited for the obvious incoming disaster but it just sat there spinning away on the spot and didnt move or hit anything! Then I got worried by the "few seconds" of radar altimeter test not ending and it felt like the tutorial had stopped and the altimeter was broken, sitting there with the needle pinned to its maximum. Then after about 5 minutes it completed its test and moved on. Come on ED, this is a great module but the tutorials desperately need updating. This is a really complex start up sequence and every tutorial or youtube guide does something different or with the order changed around over your tutorial. Furthermore, when starting the right engine it sat at 20% for a while then died to 0% I had to go look up the failed engine start procedure, tried that and it started right up. All the best. Rdg. Me too. It flies nicely but keeps catching fire when landing..........even with a decent ish touchdown it bursts into flames on the rollout Sent from my SM-A505FN using Tapatalk

MIG 21 IS still in service. Maybe not with many major powers though. India still have them and so does Croatia which is a NATO member. Furthermore Syria has been using it in the ongoing civil war and there are plenty of youtube videos of them attacking insurgents. It's probably more likely to see action with smaller countries in local conflicts. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mikoyan-Gurevich_MiG-21_operators Sent from my SM-A505FN using Tapatalk

Hey everyone, I'm Dave from Hampshire, England. I've been flying sims since the IL2 Forgotten Battles days, blimey what's that 2004/2005? IRL I have 19 glider flights out of Lasham gliding centre, but I've still got a long way to go to solo! I have to say it was flight sims that got me into it. Anyhow I found DCS last Autumn and have been flying the SU25T and the TF51 to the point where I can full cold start, taxi, take off, fly around, navigate to another airport, join the pattern and land safely in both of those aircraft. Recently, I bought the L39 Albatross and the Kursant campaign and am working on that at the moment. Would be great to fly in Multiplayer with multicrew to make the most of the L39. Am thinking about getting a Helo in the "Stay at home sale" as I see that as another interesting challenge. The question there I guess is which one? Definitely not the Gazelle but the other three all have interesting merits. Will be interesting to join in this community and share some tips. Look forward to meeting some of you around the place. ATB Dave
